Introduction
The problems of carbon emission are one of the chief issue of concern when it comes to
the deterioration of the environmental condition of the world as a whole. One of the primary
contributors in the global emission of carbon, surprisingly, is the construction business all over
the world. Building and constructions in fact accounts for 41% of the global energy use, whereas
industrial and transportation sector accounts for 30% and 29% respectively. The materials used
for the construction are also a primary source of emission of carbon dioxide, which in turn raises
concerns regarding the degradation of the environmental conditions of the world as a whole
(Turner and Collins 2013).
Analysis of the construction project
The Western Construction Company, established in 2005, has expressed interest to the
tender of 13-15 Civic Avenue project in the Pendle Hill. To see the prospects of the company
and its benefit from the project, a SWOT analysis of the same is done in the following section:
Strength of the Project:
The location of the proposed project is highly prospective as the location is Pendle Hill
which is continually gaining popularity
The project is mainly of building a plush residential as well as commercial facilities,
which will attract consumers of high income and upper middle class strata
The project design shows proper provisions for garbage disposal and fire evacuation and
fire management facility (Yuan 2013)

The spacious apartments in each floor and altogether a twenty storied facility is expected
to make space for many customers which can be profitable for the company.
The project being a corner plot has a proper scope of utilization of sunlight according to
different time of the day, which in turn, makes the flats on both the sides of each floor
attractive, which in turn is expected to raise the demand for the flat high.
The project has a parking lot in the basement which can accommodate the vehicles of the
potential owners of the building according to the parking ratio, as suggested in the
construction plan
There are provisions of parking for the differently able residents which are situated such
that they can easily get in and get out of the building in case of emergency (McGeorge
and Zou 2012)
The project also has provisions for commercial facilities and proper parking space and
loading and unloading facilities for the retail stores
Weakness of the project:
The project though has been designed such that there are few greeneries in the complex,
however, fails to take into account the overall environmental prospects as there are not
many trees or greeneries kept, which goes against the sustainability and environment
protection goals of the Western Construction Company
The construction of the building, as per the design of the project might be substantially
risky, especially according to the plans of the third and fourth floor, which may have the
possibility of causing injury to the labour while the construction is in progress (Helms
and Nixon 2010)

The construction of the new project requires new and innovative technologies which may
be difficult for those construction companies which employ traditional techniques as
well as traditional labor force because they might find it difficult to implement the new
technologies.
The huge expanse of the project implies that huge amount of resources will be required
at the beginning as well as throughout the project which automatically rules out the
chance of small businesses and new entries to take up the project
Opportunities of the Project:
The project involving both residential and commercial project poses substantial
opportunities for revenue generation for the company who will be undertaking the
building project
The project has immense chance of building up fruitful and profitable relations with the
investors, which may be of huge positive implications for the company undertaking the
project in the long run.
This project can also be an opportunity for the company to build up a potential
management strategic framework and a well coordinated team in the company which may
be beneficial for the same in taking up big construction projects in future (Fellows and
Liu 2015)

Threats in the Project:
The area for storage and other facilities in the building is less than what is adequate for a
twenty storied wide spread facility. This may work as a negative factor affecting the
demand for the facility, especially by the commercial customers (Jewell, Flanagan and Lu
2014)
The project being a substantially bigger one, involves great investment and the failure of
such project can lead to great financial loss on part of the company, which is undertaking
the project, and the investors linked in this project.
