MAIN BODY
The term Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander People is also denoted as Aboriginal
Australians and referred as indigenous Australians. In relation to the impact imposed by the
Western society and culture over Aboriginal is undeniable and the fact states that before British
settlement more than 500 indigenous groups were inhabited in the Australian continent.
This group which were in number of 500 included total number of 750000 people and the
cultural development of all Aboriginals actually took place for about 60,000 years which resulted
in making the Indigenous Australians as the custodian of the world's most ancient living culture.
In relation with looking over the impact of Western and modern culture the first effect is
of the colonization which was a direct attack made on the identity of Aboriginal groups and local
populace of Australia.
The second impact was of the stolen generation where the Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander people were actually subjected to have a very biased and unethical law. According to
these regulations and laws the children’s taken away from their parents and families as well as
communities with the force imposed by the government.
Another impact was over the contemporary status of the Aboriginals, where the
Indigenous and Non-Indigenous Australians are divided into separate groups and lines that were
clearly showcasing the inequalities amongst them. The unethical aspect of these lines and
dividing people clearly showcases with the fact that people of European descent word belonging
to the advanced and developed strata of the community and the society while the other local
Australians are suffering from lack of amenities and basic health well as other merit goods.
