Overview of Organisation
 World health organisation (WHO) is a specialised
agency belonging to the United Nations. WHO was
established on 7th April 1948 in order to improve
public health conditions in with international
cooperation. The headquarter of WHO is located in
Geneva. The organisation serves as the coordinating
and directing authority for international health
matters as well as public health.
 WHO is the first global health organisation. During
the latter half of the 19th century, severe cholera
epidemics occurred. A series of the international
sanitary conference was held in Europe at that time
in order to coordinate policy and practices around
disease management (Beigbeder, 2017).
 A health organisation was established by the League
of the nation in 1920. During the emergency relief in
world war II a group of experts who were charged
with the duty of drafting a constitution in for
defining the structure and mandate of the body that
would become recognised as the World Health
Organization. On 7th April 1948 WHO constitution
came into force, then onwards every year this day is
celebrated as ‘World Health Day”.
 The inherited task of the WHO was related to
epidemic control, drug standardisation and
quarantine measures from the health organisation
of the League of Nations and the international office
of Public Health. However, WHO was given a broad
mandate in order to promote the attainment of the
highest possible level of health by all people under
its constitution (Louis et al., 2016).
 The organisation aims to work worldwide to
promote health and keep the world safe along with
serving the vulnerable. The goal of the organisation
is to ensure that a billion more people get the
privilege of having universal health coverage and to
protect a billion more people from health
emergencies from various kinds of health
emergencies. To provide a further billion people
with better well-being and health.
 WHO focus on projects that are associated mainly
with health and well-being, health coverage and
health emergencies. It is a globally working
organisation.
Contribution to the Common Good
 WHO’s priorities over the course of time has
reflected the ways it contribute to the common
good. There are various ways the organization has
contributed to the society and they have done in
massive way (Havelaar et al., 2015). Some of the
contribution of WHO are associated with:
 Assisting countries seeking progress toward
universal health coverage.
 Help countries built their capability to adhere to
International Health Regulations
 The organization address the role of social,
economic and environmental factors in public
health.
 Who have worked in coordinating response to
non-communicable disease (WHO, 2018).
My Professional Contribution
 Skills that can help in contributing to the
organisation would include primarily the
communication skill as the organisation is a
global organisation, working with communities
from different cultural background would
require the ability to speak a different language
and in convenient way.
 It is one of the efficient tasks to communicate
with people easily in a friendly way in shirt
duration. Therefore people will good
communication skills can be highly beneficial to
this organisation.
 Also, belonging to a field like this, we are highly
capable of spreading awareness among the
people who can seek help from this
organisation. The organisation has an excellent
opportunity for volunteers who make a
significant contribution to UN action in pursuit
of sustainable development. It gives a chance
to work with the organisation, learn and grow
along with being an agent of change.
 Organisations constantly want to develop an
innovative method and ways that can help
them reach their goal and complete their
mission. As a professional, we would be able to
brainstorm new ideas along with the
opportunities offered by the rapid growth in
technology.

Introduction
 While some organizations in the present century
aim to develop a just global community, some
organization have been working that encourages
development of global community in its own way.
 Health is the prime concern of the WHO, defining
health as a state of complete mental physical and
social well-being and simply not lack of disease or
infirmity. The presentation involves the way it
contributes to the “realization of a more just global
community” and the ways as professionals can
contribute to the organization’s effort.
