HOME
The Salvation Army William Booth Special Care Home (WBBSCH) in association
with the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region (RQHR) is dedicated towards giving
comprehensive care facilities to all the people by incorporating the “Christian principles,
values and principles”. The overall approach is dedicated and made possible through the
different “Interdisciplinary Team approach that is Resident Focused valuing family and
community input”. In recent times, William Booth Special Care Home (WBBSCH) gives a
residential level 3 & 4 care for all the 53 residents residing there. The resident room available
are of private kind. Based on the patient`s income, the rate o for the “long term residential
care” is decided upon by the Ministry of Health. The Respite Care program gives a short term
respite at a regular interval for the “caregivers and an alternative to institutionalization for the
client”. Based on the income of the patient, the rate of the respite care is decided upon by the
Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region (RQHR).The additional the Convalescent care program
gives “short-term recuperation support” which is used after a serious illness or a surgery. The
main focus of the Convalescent care is based on the activities of the daily living and
“Physiotherapy treatment”. As mentioned earlier, according to the income of the patient,
Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region (RQHR) decides upon the rate of the convalescent care.
The Adult Day Support program provides recreation, personal care and socialization
especially for patient and a small change during the day for the “caregivers”. The duration for
the program is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. all seven days in a week. The Ministry of Health is the
department who decides upon the daily cost of all the recreational activities. William Booth
Special Care Home (WBSCH) Vision is “Residents First - Safely Always - Mission Central”.
The Mission of The Salvation Army William Booth Special Care Home (WBSCH) is to

“provide comprehensive services for the spiritual, physical, emotional, psychological and
social well-being of the individual”.
WHOM DO THEY SERVE?
Talking about my experience as a volunteer at the Salvation Army William Booth
Special Care Home (WBSCH) , the main duty of the volunteers is to provide additional
support to the staff and the organization in order to maintain a community which is healthy.
The person who recruits people for the volunteer services mainly “screens, and provides
orientation and volunteer-related education for hundreds of volunteers”. The work scope and
location involves the whole Regina and surrounding region. The Volunteer are involved in
different facilities and programs. While discussing about the goal of the representative
workforce program of the Salvation Army William Booth Special Care Home (WBSCH) it
can be stated as "To have the Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region's workforce reflect the
community and the diversity of our clients; the people we serve". While doing my volunteer
service, I have seen that people from various region with different religion and cultural
background come together and work in harmonious manner in the Salvation Army William
Booth Special Care Home (WBSCH). This multi lingual and multi cultural staff at the
Salvation Army William Booth Special Care Home (WBSCH) helps to set a good example of
diverse and multiple culture workforce at a professional and reputed organization. This also
helps to increase the brand image in the eyes of the patients and also its various competitors.
The diverse “multi cultural” workforce environment also helps the Salvation Army William
Booth Special Care Home (WBSCH) to fulfill its mission statement which is to “provide
comprehensive services for the spiritual, physical, emotional, psychological and social well-
being of the individual” without any discriminations on the bases of caste, creed, sex and
religion. All the staff works there peacefully and harmonious manner with any biasness. In

addition, Multi linguistic and multi cultural staffs in a workforce also helps in better
communication and interactions with the patients or clients. While doing the voluntary
service for the Salvation Army William Booth Special Care Home (WBSCH), I have learned
that the workforce there are dedicated and they work diligently towards achieving the goals
and fulfilling the mission. For them the health and safety of the “residents” is of prime
importance. As mentioned earlier, the unbiased and multi cultural staffs working there prove
the mission statement of the Salvation Army William Booth Special Care Home (WBSCH) to
provide god and effective service without any discrimination. The various services and
programs provided by the Salvation Army William Booth Special Care Home (WBSCH)
include services to the patient, service to the visitors. looking after the health of the
Aborigines, the health of the children and youth. Taking care of the environment is also under
the service of the Salvation Army William Booth Special Care Home (WBSCH) . The
organization also works for the benefit and goodwill of the men’s and women’s health. The
Salvation Army William Booth Special Care Home (WBSCH) also looks after health of the
senior old age people of the community. The Salvation Army William Booth Special Care
Home (WBSCH) also works towards the Primary health Care.The Salvation Army William
Booth Special Care Home (WBSCH) operates in an affluent society. “In an affluent society,
there is huge paradigm shift when compared to earlier times. The main contributing factors
may be categories into equity, economic growth and lifestyle”. “In affluent societies
employment security is one of the dominating arguments for continued push for economic
growth to compensate for the historical increase in labor productivity”. Longer work hours
with increasing pressure have a negative effect on the health of the employees, which are
mainly incorporated of the youth. The stressed work environment has resulted in increased
blood sugar, blood pressure and various other health related issues among the younger

an individuals. In today`s time all our decision are influenced through various advertisements
and promotional techniques. Max Horkheimer and Theodor L. Adorno from the Frankfut
school developed a “critical approach to culture and consumption in research into mass
society”. They analyzed and criticized the industrialization of mass produced culture between
the 1920`s to 1930`s in the United State of America. The term Cultural Industry was coined
by Max Horkheimer and Theodor L. Adorno to explain how “popular culture in the capitalist
society functions like an industry in producing standardized products which produce
standardized people during 1944”. Taking especially about men’s health, proper effective
measure should be taken for evaluation at regular interval. Stress caused due to various
reasons as work environment has an adverse psychological and behavioral effect on the
health of men. All the stress has future lead to excessive alcohol consumption and other
habits which is harmful for heath. In addition, Prostate cancer is considered to be one of the
know cancer among the mens and is very much prevalent especially among the men in
Canada. According to the official reports, “one in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate
cancer in their lifetime” in Canada. As a result, men over the age of 40 are suggested to visit
the doctors at a regular interval for an early detection. The latest trend of casual sex and
hookups especially among the teenagers has resulted in the increase in sexually transmitted
diseases (STDs). In addition, unprotected sex especially before marriage results in unplanned
pregnancy among the girls. This future leads to abortion which has an adverse health effect
on a woman`s body.
MY EXPERIENCE
Taking especially about my experience working in the Salvation Army William Booth
Special Care Home (WBSCH), it was a memorable one. I got to know a lot about people`s

life , their experience and problems. To be able to help people during their troubled time
gives an enormous emotional satisfaction. I remember that once during my voluntary service
period, an senior lady around 80 years of age was brought in our organizations. She used to
live in Vancouver area. During the last winter, her kids kicked their old mother out of the
house as she was not able to bring any money for the household. She had now become a
liability for them. Her Husband had died long back in an accident. He was a firefighter. She
was the one who raise the kids all by herself. After the incident, for a brief period of time ,
she lived with a family relative but soon they too start resenting her. She then decided to
come to the Salvation Army William Booth Special Care Home (WBSCH), when I meet her.
Her story really touched me. How can an own blood children abandoned her own mother is
beyond my comprehension. That is the reality. We helped her with home and other facilities.
After every formality was done, she blessed me.
MY FUTURE PLANS
My brief period at the Salvation Army William Booth Special Care Home (WBSCH)
was an enriching experience. It had helped me in better understanding of the people and
trying to help them whenever possible. This gives me immense emotional satisfaction. In
today `s time jobs in the social service sector. It is Social work is one of the fastest growing
professions and is highly in-demand both in Australia and at an international level. There are
various employment options in the social service sector in both local and at an international
level, which is created by government at both local and at the international level. In addition
to it, various NGO, which are there at both local and the international sector, also helps in
creating the various job opportunities. One needs to compassionate enough to work in this
field. It had helped me in my future in the field of Social Service. It has given me an
opportunity to interact with people at a reputed organization who is already working in that

area. This has helped me in better understanding of the overall environment at social service
organization, how the work is done which will help me in my future endeavor in the field of
social services. Since childhood, it is my dream to work at the childcare development sector. I
want to work for the betterment of the kids and their mother both at local and at international
level. As a result, I want to work with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF),
originally known as the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund. It mainly
works for the development and betterment of the children and their mother`s health care
through arrangement of funds. UNCEF take care of children`s Education along with
promoting children`s health through sports and proper nourishments. I want to work for the
growth of the children who are the future of the world. An as the Great Father of the Nation
Mahatma Gandhi said, “A nation’s greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest
members”.
