Energy is one of the most important resources required for carrying tasks and surviving
in the world. Because of high cost and environmental problems involved in
nonrenewable resources of energy, many countries have been taking initiatives for
shifting towards renewable energy resources. This is highly critical for ensuring
sustainability in environment and reserving energy for future generations. The
renewable energy resources do not consume the finite natural resources available on
earth and they can be replenished again and again. There have been several resources
of renewable energy sources such as solar energy and wind power. This essay has
focused on analyzing the need for wind power generation in North Wales. Moreover,
attitudes of people towards wind power generation have also been analyzed critically.
Wind power that is often referred to as wind energy is the form of energy that is
extracted from wind through turbines for producing electrical power (Tong, 2010). The
wind power is produced when high speed wind turns blades of the rotor that is further
connected with the shaft that spins turbines for generation of electricity. The wind
turbines are usually mounted on the tower for capturing wind energy. The high of wind
turbines is usually 100 feet above ground level. The main reason of having this much
height is to capture less turbulent and faster wind. The wind power can be used for
domestic purposes or they can further be connected with the major electrical grid for
enhancing electricity distribution. However, the distribution of wind across large scale
distribution lines for large population is quite difficult process (Hau and Renouard,
2013).
For promoting use of sustainable energy resources such as wind power, it is important
to understand what people think and perceive regarding this form of energy within North
Wales. A survey has been conducted to know perceptions of people regarding wind
power. There have been 20 males and 12 females in the survey sample that reveals
that results of survey will depict perceptions of both gender groups.

Respondents were asked about their age group. It was found that a large percentage of
respondents i.e. 90% were above 36 years of age. Only 6% respondents were between
25-29 years of age. The rest of respondents were between 18-24 years of age. This
implies that the perception regarding wind power reflects opinion of individuals above 36
years of age who compose 90% of sample.
Respondents were asked that whether they are tourists or local residents of North
Wales. In was found that 75% respondents including 50% males and 25% females were
tourists in North Wales. This implies that the recorded analysis on wind power is more
likely to reflect perception of tourists in North Wales regarding wind power generation.
Respondents were asked that whether they like wind turbines. In response to this
question, 72% respondents agreed that they like wind power while others denied this. It
is important to note that 70% of male respondents suggested that they like to have wind
turbines that implies that perceptions of males is positive towards wind turbines. This
suggests that perception of people in North Wales is similar to those of UK because
survey in UK also suggested that 70% people supported wind power. As far as opinion
of people in US is concerned, online discussion with Alyssa suggested that people in
US support wind power because it is sustainable and clean form of energy in the long
run.
Next, respondents were asked whether they would authorize the installation of Wind
turbines if they have authority to do so. The results of this question were quite surprising
because despite of liking wind power, only 22% respondents suggested that they would
authorize installation of wind turbines if given right to do so. 72% respondents denied in
this question whereas the rest of respondents were uncertain in their action. More
specifically, 80% males suggested that they would not authorize installation of wind
power despite of the fact that 70% males liked this source of energy. These results are
bit contradictory to those of UK because survey in UK suggested that 68.1%
respondents agreed to choose installation of wind power if they were given right for this.
This implies that people in North Wales are still reluctant to take measures for wind
power generation as compared to people in UK. Moreover, 51% respondents of survey
conducted by Sunday Times in UK also suggested that government should invest in

wind power. From perspective of US, Alyssa suggested that though wind power is clean
and sustainable energy source, but it is not sufficient to meet energy demand of people
in US. However, bipartisan poll conducted in US suggested that 87% of Mid-western
states of US support use of wind power. This suggests that people in US are more likely
to support wind power generation as compared to those in North Wales and UK.
Respondents were asked that whether wind power is noisy way of energy. In response
to this particular question, 84% respondents suggested that it is not noisy way of power
whereas others perceived wind power as noisy mode of energy. 50% males were of the
view that wind power is not noisy mode of energy.
Next, respondents were asked that whether they are against of wind power. In response
to this question, 65% respondents revealed that they are not against use of wind power
whereas 31% respondents were against use of wind power. The rest of respondents
were uncertain in their opinion towards wind energy. More specifically, 40% males and
67% females suggested that they were not against use of wind power.
Finally, respondents were asked that whether wind power is economical or not. In
response to this particular question, 65% respondents suggested that wind power is
economical energy source whereas 31% suggested that it is non economical mode of
energy. The rest of respondents were uncertain in their opinion. 40% males and 67%
females were of the view that wind energy is economical. This suggests that female
respondents perceived wind power more economical as compared to male
respondents.
The selected group of respondents suggested that wind power is good source of energy
but at the same time, they perceived that wind turbines are less likely to be sufficient to
meet energy demands of North Wales. This suggests that people in North Wales like
wind power but they have certain ambiguities and uncertainties regarding
implementation of initiatives for generation of wind power.
In conclusion, it has been said that people in North Wales like wind power just like
people in UK and US. However, it has been concluded that people in US are more
active to take initiatives for supporting wind power as compared to those in UK and

North Wales. The opinions of people in North Wales are aligned with those of UK and
US regarding support of wind power but they still believe that wind power is not
sufficient to meet increasing demands of people in the current era. Hence, policy
makers need to take further initiatives for enhancing wind power generation to large
scale so that needs of considerable population can be met. The results of this study
also conclude that people perceived wind power to be more economical as compared to
other forms of energy but they are reluctant to take measures for installing wind
turbines. This shows their ambiguities regarding outcomes of installing wind turbines.
Finally, it has been recommended that policy makers need to take measures for
resoling ambiguities in people regarding use of wind power so that agree to invest on
this sustainable and clean form of energy.
