Q1.
When information or data is transferred without the use of any physical wire or conductor it
is known as wireless communication. Different devices which are used for wireless
communication are GPS, Wi-Fi, satellite, television etc. The (Decuir, 2016) data is
transferred with the help of radio waves. Wireless communication has advantages as well as
disadvantages which are described below:
Advantages of wireless communication
Cost – unlike wired communication which requires heavy installation of wires and cables
in the earth, wireless communication eliminates that process and help in reducing the cost
and also save time.
High Speed – It helps to transfer and exchange information with the greatest speed while
maintaining the accuracy of the information too,
Flexibility – Wireless communication has the (Hillan, et. al, 2016) ability to penetrate
through the obstacles and is very easy to install. It also allows easy expansion in the
network area which results in greater scalability.
Disadvantages of wireless communication.
Wireless communication is more prone to the attacks, as an unauthorized party can easily
interrupt the network and can easily disturb the transmission signals. Hence it requires
high shield of security to protect the signals.
Wireless communication also has disadvantages in term of reliability of the network as
the propagation of the signals are affected easily and hence create disturbance in the
network.
It requires a high cost for setting the infrastructure and is easily affected by climate
conditions.

Q3
Analysis of Wi-Fi strength of our SSID
In the first project, we have measured the signal strength of our office Wi-Fi network that
was connected to our P.C by providing the network SSID in the SSID column. Acrylic Wi-Fi
has shown us the data information like MAC address; network SSID AND BSSID of our Wi-
Fi system. Moreover, it helped us finding generic Wi-Fi password and default WPS of the
Wi-Fi system, we even don’t need a specially designed hardware to scan our Wi-Fi networks.
After finding the access point, strength of Wi-Fi and password, we started checking the data
information of another network traffic. It helped us in measuring the access points, Wi-Fi
strengths and Wi-Fi passwords of the other networks for security mechanisms because it
gives details regarding security and network authentication for WEP, WPA, WPA2.This
software even helped us in finding the details of hidden networks. With the help of a basket
in software called “INVENTORY” we placed all the known Wi-Fi systems in one position
for conveniently naming known systems. But this software must be used very carefully and
vigilantly.
Observation#2
Effect of Variation in Distance and Obstacles on the Wi-Fi Strength
When we roamed away from the router with our computer, acrylic Wi-Fi has shown us that
the signal strength went on decreasing with the increase in distance. When we were sitting in
front of the access point, we were getting full 54 Mbps bandwidth but when we moved down
stairs in the lobby, we noticed 40 Mbps and when we went outside the office premises we got
20 Mbps as shown by the software. Moreover, signal strength was also being affected by the
obstacles in the way of the signals. Doors, partitions and office windows provide signal an
easy carrier path and didn’t affect signal strength much i.e. speed was affected by only a
small factor but thicker walls require greater penetration so they have comparatively hurdled
the signal strength more as compared to windows, doors, partitions etc. in the carrier path.
Cement walls affect the signal strength and speed but still provide network coverage but in
case of steel and concrete steels, they weaken the signal very much. We noticed the complete
failure of connecting to the network and poor network access when we went 110 m away
from the office premises when all the live streaming and video playing stopped. Hence by the
results of acrylic Wi-Fi, we noticed that it is the generic property of signal strength that it is

inversely proportional to the distance between router and device and the obstacles in the path
of carrier signals on the way from router.
Observation# 3
Effect of Placing Varying Objects on Antenna on Signal Strength
Antennas are fabricated to transmit and receive carrier signals from every direction. We
analyzed strength of signals by placing various objects over antenna while standing between
50 feet (15 m) and 100 feet (30 m).
Following are various effects:
By Placing Hand:
If we tightly cover the antenna with hand, it reduces signal strength but to minimum
extent.
By Placing Paper:
Paper has no effect on signal strength. So, covering AP with a piece of paper has no effect
on strength.
By Placing Aluminum Foil:
Aluminum drastically and cheaply affects the signal strength. When we placed aluminum
foil in adequate shape that it became a great reflector, signal strength drastically increased.
But it can also be used to control the signal strength
By Placing A Brief Case With Metallic Objects:
Metallic reflectors more affect the signal strength as compared to the above objects. They
decrease the signal to noise ratio.
