Wireless Network Design and Redesign Project for Shuraa Facilities

This project focuses on the wireless network design and redesign for Shuraa Facilities Management LLC, a hotel with 500 clients in Dubai, UAE. The assignment begins with collecting information through questionnaires designed for users, IT staff, and management to understand the current network's performance, challenges, and requirements. The questionnaires cover aspects like signal strength, webpage loading times, call quality, download speeds, security, and bandwidth needs. The project then moves to network redesign, proposing a three-layered hierarchical model (core, distribution, and access) using a wireless network for easier deployment and expansion. Justification for the design includes considerations for redundancy, bandwidth management, VLAN configuration, and application profiling to enhance network efficiency and security, ultimately aiming to meet the needs of the hotel's clients and improve overall network performance. The design also incorporates the use of wall-mounted access points to ensure optimal signal coverage throughout the hotel, addressing the limitations of the existing network in supporting the growing number of users and ensuring 24/7 connectivity for guests.

PART I: Collecting Information
For the collection of information an evaluation is made on the case study of Shuraa Facilities
Management LLC for identifying the needs of deploying the wireless service. A set of questionnaire is
prepared for the users and the problems faced by them while using the network is evaluated. The
questionnaire is distributed with the 5 department for gathering data from different parts of the
network and restructure the network according to the user feedback.
An evaluation is made on the various challenges which is face by Shuraa Facilities Hotel so that
the essential requirement for redesigning could be collected and this may be done by making a proper
set of the questionnaire which would be distributed to various users of IT staffs, management [5].
Questionnaires for Users
● What is the signal strength of the wifii network and is it consistent throughout the floor?
● Do the webpages load in a minimum time and videos streams without buffering?
● During voice and video calls do you face call drops and connectivity issues while
connected with the wireless network?
● Does download fails or the download speed drops due to network error while
downloading large files?
● Does the wireless network of the hotel support sharing files and information between
the users connected in the network?
● Is the wireless network supports the latest hardware device and software for availing
different service and platform?
● Does the network blocks or allows malicious websites and installs malicious software or
spyware in the hardware device?
Questionnaires for Management
● How many guests are accommodated in each of the floor of the hotel building?
● Which part of the hotel does not have good WiFi strength or is the dead zone?

● How old is the existing network that is currently used by the users of the hotel?
● Does the hotel face security violation due to the outdated network and protocols?
● Is there any need for monitoring the network and enforce a centralized control of the
network? [10]
Questionnaires for IT Staffs
● Is there any firewall currently used for management of access permission of different
websites for the users?
● What is the current internet plan used by the hotel to serve internet to the guests?
● How many departments are there in the hotel and what are the applications and
services used by them?
● Does the hotel use an in house server or cloud hosting to host their website?
● What are the bandwidth needs for the departments and how many of users are working
at a time?
Purpose of the Questionnaires
The questionnaires are developed such that it can be distributed with the different levels of
users and stakeholders for getting an idea about the network requirements and the problems with the
existing framework. With the help of the questionnaires the users can be actively involved in the
network redesign process and help in rectifying the problems associated with the network [6]. The
errors in the network and signal strength can be improved after a complete analysis on the network and
it also help in aligning the network according to the current needs of the users. The clear understanding
of the requirement is necessary such that new network solution is error free and efficient to meet the
needs of 500 clients in the hotel [4]. The questionnaire helps in collecting user opinion and making a
research on the characteristics of the network. It can help in quick collection of answers and can be used
multiple times for promotion of reliability and comparing the result.

Validation and Verification Plan
A cost estimation is done by analyzing the number of wireless access point needed to be
deployed in the hotel and management of connectivity of the user. Multiple access point is needed to be
deployed and configured according to the number of department such that the security of the network
is maintained and a generic layout of the network is maintained [9]. For the identification of the needs
of redesigning the current network design of Shuraa Facilities an analysis is made on the current
network framework for redesigning the infrastructure. Shurra Facilities Management is a hotel with a
capacity of 500 clients and located in Dubai, UAE. The client booking rooms in the hotel expects best
service and standard with 24/7 connectivity to WIFI access point. The hotel has the reputation of
providing luxury accommodation to travel industry and have good interior decoration [7]. With the
growth of the business and growth in the number of users the current network is not capable of meeting
the needs of the users and thus there is a need of redesigning the network.
PART II: Documentation and Network Redesign
A new wireless network is proposed since it can be deployed at a shorter duration of time and
can be installed easily for expansion of the current network solution. The wireless network is needed to
be deployed without spoiling the interior decoration of the hotel and maintaining tidiness in the hotel
premises. The main concern for the expansion of the network structure is that the major area of the
hotel is needed to be covered by the wifi signal and have good signal strength [2]. Wall mounted access
point is needed to be installed at a regular distance for managing the coverage of wireless signal and
growing the efficiency and availability of the wireless network.

Justification
A three layered hierarchical model is used for the expansion of the network and the network is
divided into core access and distribution layer such that redundancy in the network is maintained and
redundant link can be used for maintaining quality of service. The management of the data packets in
the network is essential for managing the availability of network and secure the network from
unauthroised access [3]. The bandwidth of each of the user is needed to be set such that a high user
cannot affect negatively the consumption of bandwidth for the other users.
The core switch is needed to be designed with VTP server and multiple VLAN is needed to be
configured according to the name of the department for automatically assigning the IP address to the
wireless access point connected with the port assigned to the specific VLAN. The distribution levcel
switch can be configured as VTP client such that the vlan information can be transferred to the client
switch and connectivity of the network is maintained [1]. For maintaining extension extra switch can be
installed such that the all the areas of the hotel such as reception, lounge, lobby, restaurant can be
covered by the wireless network.
An application profile is needed to be created for each user such that the efficiency of the
network can be enhanced and the switches are needed to be configured as VTP server for managing the
other devices that are connected with the network [8]. The problems in the current network of Shuraa
Facilities Management LLC is evaluated and the following network design is created to increase the
productivity of the current network.
