Executive summary
The University of Footscray commonly known as UF is one of the leading universities in
higher education in Australia. The university has more than twenty thousand students in its four
campus which are spread across Perth, Melbourne, and Sydney. The major aim of this project is
to set-up a wireless network which allows one to manage all the operations within the university
such as storage, communications, and data transfer. This will enable the university to full its
business needs as the students can be able to access the internet from their phones, tabs or even
computer anywhere within the university. In addition to this, the Wi-Fi network will enable the
organization employees in sharing of files and folders. This project is aimed at setting up a Wi-
Fi network which is of high quality, secure, and reliable not only for the university staff but also
for all the students. To accomplish the three requirements, this project will set new access points
in the 12 main buildings and two access points in the student activity centers such as a
playground, food counts, gym, and in the entertainment rooms. In addition to this to the new
buildings which were opened in 2016, this paper will highlight how to provide Wi-Fi
connections to the buildings by setting up both outdoor and indoor Wi-Fi networks. This will
facilitate access to university online services and access to the internet.

Wireless Proposal
Introduction
The report is prepared for an education institution for improvement of wireless
connectivity across the campus and enable the student to connect their wireless device with the
university network. For the development of the network solution the number of wireless users is
needed to be identified and the location of the placement of the wireless access point is needed to
be identified. The building floor plan is needed to be analyzed for increasing the area of
coverage and overlapping the wireless signal for enabling migration of users from one access
point to another and improvement of the performance of the network. The Most organizations
are moving away from a wired network to a wireless type of network. It has also become very
popular in the current computing industry as well as in people’s daily life. As technology is
updating day by day. Now wireless technology took over the scenario from wired one. As
wireless technology enables users to freely move in the network area without any disruption of
internet connection. The wireless network exists into two modes which are infrastructure and ad-
hoc. In ad-hoc mode, each and every client communicate directly to the other clients. The only
consideration made here are the clients within a certain transmission range. 1The other mode is
the infrastructure mode which is a type of mode where there is a need for an access point. This

Purpose of this project plan
The major aim of this project is to set-up a wireless network for UF University. This will
proper management of the organization’s operations within the university such as storage, data
transfer, and communications. In addition to this, it will enable the students and the staff to have
access to the internet and at the same time enable the transfer of folders and files.
More Details about the project & ways to solve problems
This project is about upgrading the current wireless network. The three major issues
which will be solved are quality, security, and reliability of the network. In order to achieve this
project will go for infrastructure mode where each client computer or a phone sends its
information via an access point or a central station. In here the access point acts as an Ethernet

ridge which is used to forward communications onto the appropriate network which is either
wireless or wired network.
One of the reasons as to why the University needs to go for this mode is that it offers the
advantage of scalability, an improved reach, and centralized security management. In addition to
a wireless network, one can connect to resources on the current wired network in the University.
Also, infrastructure mode is more long-lasting and more permanent as compared to an ad-hoc
method of connection.
To carry wireless network upgrade for the organization this project will kick off by
requirements gathering. In here the organization will discuss requirements with all the university
stakeholders so as to analyze the current wireless network. This will help in analyzing the
capabilities of the internal organization network. It will also help in figuring out a type of dual
band APs which will be needed. For this case, the university needs to go for 5 GHz which have
the capabilities to support 802.11b and 802.11ac standard.
Second, this project will go ahead to perform what I would refer to as Wi-Fi site design.
This will help in estimating the number of access points needed and where they need to be
placed. In addition to a site survey, it will help in finalizing Wi-Fi report design with all the
support equipment needed. Also, it will help the university in budget allocation and confirming
with network engineers of the timeline needed.
Third, this project will show how to go about installation and configuration of the various
equipment and documenting of a built network. Fourth, this project will highlight to training all
the stakeholders on how to operate the various Wi-Fi equipment; how to connect to the internet.
It is at this stage where whole documentation of the equipment configuration and network
settings is done and uses case testing before rolling out the project.

More Details Proposed solution
To start with some of the following indicates some of the equipment which is needed to
accomplish this type of design. A manageable network switch. This is a type of equipment which
is used to supply internet to all the wireless devices. Another equipment which is needed is a
Wireless LAN controller. 2This is an access point manager which is mounted onto server rack. It
acts wireless network set-up brain. The controller usually informs all the Access Points the
settings that they need to have at a given time. This is done so as not to disrupt the overall
wireless infrastructure. Power of Ethernet (PoE) is another equipment which is needed; it allows
AP device to receive power and data while at the same time sending internet to the AP. A
firewall is another gadget needed here; this device helps in protecting organization networks
from unauthorized access from or from a network. In this case, it needs to be software based.
3Netgear type of Wireless router is also needed in this proposed solution. This type of
router will be installed within the corridors of the organization; this will help university staff in
accessing the internet and to the organization network resources. This wireless router needs to be
1.7GHz and must be of high performance. In addition, AC1750 Dual Band Gigabit Wi-Fi Router
which has an AiMesh. With this type of router, it will offer smooth streaming with a 2.4 GHz of

up to a speed of 450Mpbs and up to 1300Mbps. It also has an optimized Wi-Fi range which has
high-power antennas that offer better coverage. It also offers parental controls which are able to
restrict and monitor internet activity for any given user. This gadget also offers an improved
safety with what network engineers refer to as triple-strength network security which is powered
by Trend Micro TM. In addition to this one has the capability of performing basic tasks such as
file downloading and web browsing with ease. In addition, the device enables multiple devices to
stream in HD to support heavy internet users.
4The last device which is needed in this case is a 5 GHz out TP-Link. The TP-link needs
to be 13dBi CPE510. This type of TP-Link supports up to 60-meter range. It also allows one to
reset the device remotely. In addition, the device has a centralized management application
which is ideal and flexible. The device also offers a point-to-point and point-to-multipoint and an
outdoor Wi-Fi coverage applications. This device is also coupled by a user-friendly design which
makes CPE510 type pf AP an ideal choice for both staff and students.

the organization plan to set-up twelve main buildings and two student activity centers which
have to include food counts, gym, entertainment rooms, and playground. In addition, the wireless
network need to support the new 802.11ac standard.
The current network is just a simple network described by the block diagram below
Figure 1: Wireless network block diagram
From the diagram, all the organization APs with 802.3 standards are connected to the
internet with no router nor a manageable switch. In addition, as shown in the diagram, there is no
firewall located between the organization network and the internet.
Some of the wireless Implementation issues with the current wireless network
To start with since the inception of the internet, we have experienced a lot of changes in
how technology is used. Today technology is being accessed from anywhere through wireless. In
most organizations, employees demand wireless access to the internet and resources.
