INTRODUCTION
The report below gives an explanation of effects of LANS and PANS on wireless
communication and networking. To begin with, a computer network refers to the digital
telecommunication network that enables sharing of resources by the nodes. In computer
networks, data is then exchanged to the different computing devices through the use of data
links. The links are created using various media cable which include optic cables or wires.
The different equipment used in setting up LAN and PAN Include: Switches, Hubs, Routers
and Nano stations.
Paper 1: Congestion Control in Wireless Communication Network Using
Fuzzy Logic and Machine Learning Techniques
According to research paper one; LAN is a computer network used to link devices which are
in a certain building or adjacent buildings, often the ones with a radius of less than one
kilometre whereas Personal Area Network is a computer network that is used for devices
interconnection in a specific workspace. It involves transmission of data between devices like
tablets, personal computers and smartphones1.
METHODOLOGIES USED.
The methodologies used included:
i. Interviewing.
The researcher interviewed the employees of the company setting up the local area network
and noticed that before setting up materials, a land survey of the area needed to be done to
ensure that the wireless connection from the sender [access point] to the receiver[destination]
is not interrupted.
The land surveys consisted of metrological surveys to determine the forces of nature in the
area. Among them were, the strength of the wind and rain patterns. On the other hand, land
forms available in the area e g, mountains, hills were to be carefully checked so they would
not interrupt the connection among others.

ii. Observation
The distance between the 2 points was also to be considered because the wireless connection
could only be transferred over a short distance. The researcher also observed that the local
area network could only be installed in areas with good infrastructure. The area should have
good transport and its easily accessible. The local area also requires to have electric power in
order to access internet.

According to the researcher, Local area network is a computer network that is used in
connecting computers and other computer devices. Communication devices are hubs,
switches, and routers.
Personal area network is a connection that occurs between a number of devices that include
tablets, smartphones, computer and other devices. PAN is mainly for the purpose of personal
uses such as sharing of the data among devices2.
METHODOLOGIES USED
The methodologies used included:
i. Questionnaire
The researcher resulted to using questionnaire method where he came up with the following
statements to be answered by the employees of the company.

ii. Publications
The researcher used different written sources of information including books written by
different scholars, journals and magazines discussing set up and functioning of both local and
personal area networks.
The researcher got information on the merits and demerits of using the local and personal
area networks.
Advantages of Local Area Network
 Sharing of Resources
Computer resources for examples printers, modems and hard disks may be shared
through the use of the local area network so as to transfer information. This reduces
cost of purchasing hardware
 Sharing of Software Applications
Using the same software in a network is much cheaper compared to the purchase of
separate software for each and every client in a network.
Disadvantages of LAN
 The Setup Cost Incurred is High
Despite LAN saving the cost as a result of sharing resources via the computer, the
initial costs accrued while installing and maintaining the LAN is mainly high.
 Threat in Data Security
There is a potential threat when unauthorized users are able to access confidential
information stored in a company when the LAN administrator fails to securely protect
the data. LAN Administrator is often held responsible for the data security of a
company.
 The job of LAN Maintenance
LAN requires an administrator. The work of the administrator is to set up and
maintain the network in instances where problems arise during installation of the
software and failures of the hardware.
Advantage of the research
 It enables network administrator to know how to setup wireless networks without
causing congestion

Disadvantages of the research
 Wireless connection requires very little space thus rarely cause congestion unless
signal connection
Merits of PAN
 It saves on Cost:
Additional wires are not required in this network and no additional charges of data are
incurred. This makes Personal area network a cheap mean of communication.
 Ease of use:
Basically, PAN is simple when it comes to its usage.
 It is Reliable:
Using this type of data connection the network is stable and reliable.in a range of
10meters
Demerits of PAN
 It requires a range of short distance
It requires a maximum range of signal of 10 meters that restricts sharing of long
distance.
 Radio signals Interference
Infrared is also used in pan in order to interfere with the radio signals.
 Slow rate of data transfer
Pan often uses infrared and Bluetooth which contain a slow rate of data transfer
compared to other network types of networks such as LAN.
Advantage of the research
 It shows how good and efficient 5g network has made communication to the operators
or users
Disadvantage of the research
 5g network has a lot of competition from other networks making the research less of
value
Comparison
Comparing the results of research one and research two you noticed that both arrive at the
conclusion that LANS and PANS play a role in wireless communication and networking
despite the different methodologies used to acquire data.

In research one (Congestion control in wireless communication the researcher needs to use
more research methods to get more information on the same
In research two (5g wireless communication), the researcher needs to acquire more on the
considerations to setup a 5g network

It is well explained above that LANS and PANS have made wireless communication and
networking easier since the network can be used in many places efficiently. From the
research papers above you notice that, to setup a LANS network there are number of
considerations you consider, that is, the distance from the access point to the receivers’ point,
any obstacles like mountains and hills and lastly weather conditions in that place. You also
notice that LANS and PANS are of great importance to communication.
