1CHANGES IN THE POSITION OF WOMEN
Introduction
The human society s primarily made up of two genders, that is of the males and
the females. The females of the society have always been given a secondary position
in the community due to their perceived inferior roles compared to their male
counterparts. The purpose of this essay is to draw a comparative analysis between the
position of the women in the past and how it has evolved in the present scenario.
Discussion
Since the inception of the human society, the women population have been
accorded a degraded position in the community. This was mainly due to the reason
that the male members thought that the women are too weak and delicate to
participate in the activities of the public sphere (Awasthi, 2017). As a result, the
education of the women were not emphasized upon and they were required to confine
themselves within the private sphere. Their desire for employment were frowned upon
and they were basically taught to remain dependent on their male counterparts for
accessing any kind of freedom.
However, as argued by Dubey (2017), it can be seen that with the changes in
times, the position of the women also started to undergo a drastic change. The various
waves of feminism emphasized on the need of the women population to showcase
their opinion in the political sphere. As a result, the first wave feminism harped on the
political rights of the people, which formally began in 1848 in the Seneca Falls
Convention (Awasthi, 2017).
Another major change that can be noticed in the status of women is that they are
now allowed to participate in the public sphere. Women employment is encouraged so
much so that Google, one of the leading multinational companies of the world, have
made it their motive to drive for equal employment opportunities (Dubey, 2017).
