Importance of women rights
Gender discrimination has always been an part of society where males are provided and
higher position than compared to females, like in early times females at UK were not allowed to
vote in elections and also they were not allowed to work for earning. This can also be seen in
present times when there are some field where females are not allowed to work and there are also
several factors which are affecting women rights in the society. Following are several static
background factors which are affecting women rights.
Violence against women-
Women often faces domestic violence in which in most of the cases they are brutally
tortured by the male members and because of which the united nation has made series of
considerations on this topic. This case of domestic violence has increase in the present time of
COVID-19 because lockdown, this has forced government to pay high interest in improving
female condition (Human right watch, 2020).
Forced marriage and slavery-
The society where we live in is a male driven society in which females are often forced to
marry a person against their will, through this they are facing lack of trust issues and have to live
in a threat of getting betrayal. In some cases women also have to face slavery which is a complte
violation of human rights. Cases of forced marriage alone in London were 1,764 in 2018 and is
still increasing in present time (Elks, 2019).
Human trafficking
Not only that women have to face human trafficking as well in which they are smuggled
and sold in market. This can be either for their physical appearance or use of body parts for
illegal smuggling. This is one of the major concern the governments all across the globe and high
level comities are also formed in order to remove this human trafficking (U.S. department of
State, 2020).
Factors contributing towards identified issues
There are several factors which are affecting women rights in UK, these issues arises at
different places with circumstances. Following are factors which are causing gender inequality
and affecting women rights.
Document Page
Culture-
It have been analysed that younger generation of boys and men are showing high interest
in following lad culture in which women are mostly treated as an object. This is mostly spread
through the means of social media and digital entertainment, which makes a direct impact on the
psychological development of boy child (Ashraf, Abrar-ul-Haq and Ashraf, 2017). Which result
in aggression and high use of violence on women because of which this lad culture has faced
high criticism from several women welfare societies within UK. This follow ship of lad culture
by men is a key factor affecting gender inequality in UK and women’s involvement in various
fields.
Employment-
Women are not only facing gender inequality in society but also at work place, this can
be analysed at their work place where they are facing negative discrimination in getting payment
of their work. It has been analysed in small and medium enterprises that there is significant
difference in payment structure of temporary labour employees on the basis of gender because
women are comparatively considered weak in terms of physical strength (Jelin, 2019). Therefore
even though they are working at same time segment they are paid less than compared to men.
With that female workers often have to face sexual harassment in their respective work field
because of which their performance is affected and women rights are violated.
Education-
Female mind is more sharper than compared to male mind because of which girls are able
to perform well in terms of education and achieve higher marks than compared to boys. But still
there is a segment in society which opposes women education and because of that reason girl
child is often not allowed to continue higher educations (Coomaraswamy, 2017). This can be
analysed by the difference in number of boys and girls in a class, in most of the case it has been
evaluated that number of girls decreases with increase in class level.
Reflection
In present scenario, when technology is improving day by day, literacy rates are so high
and social media has become a part of our daily life style, we are discussing topic like gender
inequality. Which is causes because the society is unable to treat woman as they are treating men
because of which women right and gender issues have become a major concern. While working

on this topic I believe that even though women rights issues are there in our society but they are
improved as compared to past, therefore through integration of concentrated efforts. We would
be able to improve women’s condition in society.
