HEALTH PROMOTION: WOODSIDE, QUEENS NEW YORK FOR OBESITY
Public health promotion is concerned about the identification and also reduction of the
health disparities of a population. Hence, based on this context, it can be stated that the health
promotion with the consideration of the health indicators mentioned in Healthypeople, 2020
would help. In the following section Woodside and Sunnyside community health issue and the
health promotion will be discussed.
Woodside and Sunnyside is one of the neighborhood of the New York City and
comprising of a multicultural and multiethnic community. The community people are found to
be in a better health condition in comparison with the Queens. However, overall New York
population can be seen in a better condition than this community in terms of the health and social
factors. On the other hand, it has been seen that the Hispanic or Latino population is high in
number in the community that is 34 per cent (Www1.nyc.gov, 2020). It has been seen that the
community is affected with poverty as 20 per cent of the population is found under the poverty
line (Www1.nyc.gov, 2020). Moreover, the health condition of the community is in a good
range. However, the obesity is one of the prominent issues among the children of the Hispanic or
Latino population. A total of 18 per cent of the children from the Hispanic or Latino population
are affected with obesity (Health.ny.gov, 2020). Hence, it can be stated that the childhood
obesity is one of the fatal issue in the community. The rate of education of the community is also
seen to be in below average as only 45 per cent of the population has a graduate degree
(Www1.nyc.gov, 2020). Thus, poverty and education level are the factors that affects the health
condition of the population. Moreover, the cultural beliefs are the factors that affect the health
condition of the population and it has been prominent among the children of the Hispanic
children as they are affected with obesity. In this context, it can be stated that the borough needs
to be provide with health promotion regarding the obesity reduction.

HEALTH PROMOTION: WOODSIDE, QUEENS NEW YORK FOR OBESITY
According to Healthypeople, 2020 health indicators such as the obesity, alcohol
consumption and smoking are very much prominent among most of the communities
(Healthypeople.gov, 2020). Hence, as per the data of the Woodside and Sunnyside community it
has been seen that the obesity among Hispanic children is very much prominent. Hence,
education and awareness program, physical activity and healthy food habit development would
be the effective processes which can lead to the reduction of the negative situation regarding
obesity (Dogra & Barber, 2018). Thus, it can be stated that the health promotion to reduce the
obesity rate among the Hispanic children will improve the health outcome of the community.
Based on the above discussion it can be concluded that the factor of the health promotion
should be focused on the improvement of the health literacy and the health behaviors of the
target population. Thus, the identification of the health indicators and the negative impacts are
required and proper planning for health promotion is required as well.
