Introduction
This report discusses about the business analysis and decision modelling. In this report,
the use of business data and level of analytics applied within the Woolworths is identified,
analyzed and evaluate. From this the SWOT analysis is to be done for the Woolworths by using
the business data and level of analytics. As SWOT analysis helps in analyzing the company’s
strengths, Weaknesses, opportunities and threats that the company faces. SWOT helps the
company to overcome with the weaknesses by adopting the effective strategies, and focus on the
strength for future growth, minimize the threats by taking corrective measures and grab the
various opportunities for future growth.
Background of the organization
Woolworths is a supermarket chain which has headquarters in Australia. Woolworths
limited owns and manage the supermarket. They have chain of supermarket in Australia with a
large network and lead the market in grocery and food retail by controlling more than eighty
percent of the share of market. They have a wide portfolio in products which includes vegetable
market, grocery, toiletries, non-vegetarian products, bakery products, home furnishing,
confectionery, footwear, clothes and other miscellaneous products (Woolworths, 2019).
The main aim of the Woolworths is to make sure to satisfy the needs of customers by
making the availability of products at one place and customers will not opt for another option
which are available in market (Woolworths group, 2019a).

Strength
The strengths of Woolworths are:
Market leadership: market leaders are the strength of Woolworths and its leadership position
increases the capabilities of the business in developing the potential of market by their
availability of higher resources in the form of technological resources, decent existence through
the retail industry and human resource.

Brand image: Woolworths have strong name and well-organized operations which build upon all
lend to larger loyalty of customers. These helps in improving the minds of customer for their
product and also increase the positive experience for customers. This results in having large
number of customers for longer period.
Managing perception: it is necessary to have capability for managing the perceptions and
balancing the segments throughout the income strata. Policies of pricing and promotion has made
it possible as they are entirely low end but not completely premium. This helps in increasing its
trading in the segment by 55% for the middle class (Woolworths group, 2019b).
Wide range of product: Woolworths have wider range of products of different categories which
helps it in targeting larger customer base and satisfying their needs and expectations.

Good customer tracking: Woolworths constantly track its consumers with the help of tool of
business analytics which is specially designed for the purpose of social media analytics. They
maintain in their system the track record of shopping bills of their customers and they always
make sure that their product shelves are stocked with the trending or fast-moving items

Weaknesses
The following are the weaknesses of Woolworths:
Personalized service: the company has wider area for their products due to which the large
numbers of customers were there and they do not offer services on individual basis as they did
not focus on individuals.
Limited global presence: the Woolworths have limited global presence in the retail markets as
compared to its competitors such as Coles. The growth strategy is the major factor which mainly
influences by the conditions of external environment which impacts on the ability in controlling
the retail market of Australia.
Price wars: Woolworths is in war of prices with their strongest and nearest competitors that is

Opportunities
Woolworths across the country has better potential of growth and the factors which manage the
chains of supply, computerization and the different change in lifestyle of customer has a major
impact on the abilities of a company and it provides the better opportunity for company for the
future development and growth. Woolworths is taking an initiative for implementing the various
options by way of adopting the multi-option trading strategy in order to manage with the
fluctuating requirements of their consumers (Laursen, 2016).
Threats
The following are the threats to Woolworths:
Competition: Coles is the biggest competitor of Woolworths, an Australia based company. Along
with Coles, some online retailers such as Amazon have forayed into the food retailer which they
offer or provide the threats to the company.
Focus on health: Woolworth’s customer are tremendously conscious of how and what they shop
because of increase in health concern and awareness. Products which are organic and free from
chemicals are huge in demand nowadays and with the change in trend and customers
requirement, Woolworths has to change its portfolio of product as it will be the biggest threat for
the Woolworths market for the future (Bull, Et al, 2016).
Recommendation
It is recommended that Woolworths must look forward towards expanding their business
operation across their country to the growing nations such as Singapore or India where
economy is improved so that they must develop their business in such countries also.
They must focus on customer on individual basis when they have wide range of product
as they should not be that much involved in expanding area which reduces the personal
connection with the customers for the products and services.
They must keep the price lower than the competitors instead of keeping the price higher
in collaboration with the customers.

In order to conclude the report, Woolworths has been carried out with the view to assess
the significant strategies which has been undertaken by the company and the performance of
entire analysis has indicated that Woolworths is focused particularly towards the achievement of

strong commitment for their customers and employees which helps in increasing the company’s
strengths and provides opportunities for better growth and helps to minimize the threats by
improving the weaknesses. These have impacted on the growth of Woolworths and
