Rich Picture
A rich picture is used to represent the complex situation that is going on in an organisation,
industry, company or anything else. Rich picture is built using some pictures and symbols. It
is a strategy of representing situation directed from the SSM or Soft Systems Methodology.
Using rich pictures or the drawing representation, the problem can be identified visually and
correctly. This helps to organise thoughts a little bit better. Using a rich picture, people can
work or problem findings deeply and hence enhance the way of looking at the problem and
find out relevant solutions.
Here, below show rich picture is according to the case scenario where the company
Woolworths is having some issues in various sectors like their inventory management, stock
management, deal with the competitors, providing cheap product with fast deliveries and
other some issues like that. Now, they need to solve out the problem and also increase the
market range of the company and therefore they need to find out the way which will be
helpful. Following is the rich picture of the facing issue by Woolworths (Stevens, 2016).

Root Definition Report
Root definition is basically the central or main part of the SSM. Root definition is the
thinking tool in which people can think deeply according to each entity and get their answers.
Mainly it is considered as a statement for an aim which comprises the factor of the current
situation of a particular company which may describe the interest or the opportunity that can
be carried out using the deep analysis of the Root definition.
CATWOE is classified as the acronym:
The Customer
The customers are there at the receiving end and they are here right now demanding for the
fast delivery of the products and also the products of Woolworths should be available at a
cheap rate for the customer so that they can buy them from Woolworths instead of going to
the competitors.
Right now the customers are facing the problem which is delay in the delivery of the products
and also the products are at a high price. This may the reason due to which the customers are
going to the competitors (Burge, 2013).
The new proposed strategy will be that the customers can get their delivery on time and will
be on a cheap rate. This will be according to the demand of the customer. But, the customers
have to pay the delivery charges of the products if they want it at their home address or they
can directly shop from the Woolworths.
Customers and the company both will be happy with this change. The only challenge that will
arise will be one of the competitors as using this strategy Woolworths can regain their
customers.

Actors
There are several actors in this root definition report who will be doing their part like the
following:
Operation Manager: Managing the Inventory
Providing report to the Woolworths
Preparing business strategies.
Customer: Buying products
Submitting response
Woolworths: Handling inventory
Fulfilling Business needs
Competitors: Preparing new strategies against Woolworths
Inventory: Handling the stock
Managing the stock.
With new business strategies, all the actors may be get affected. Some will get the benefit
from the new strategy and some will get a disadvantage of it like failure.
Positive reaction is assumed from their side which will help the Woolworths implementing
new strategies so that the customer can get their part from the Woolworths’ side and
Woolworths can provide them with the product and specification they need and also the
company can generate profit and increase their performance (Lienert, 2019).

Transformation
For the transportation part, all the products will be delivered to the door steps of the address
of the customer where they will receive the product and pay the price of the product and
shipping charges as well.
The products will be stored at the inventory. Woolworths shop will have some products in
case if customers want to shop directly from the shop. For the customers who want delivery
at their home, products in the inventory will be sent through the transportation vehicle
directly to their home address.
World View
Working in this way will increase the performance of the Woolworths business idea. Stock
management will be handled by the operation manager of that branch of Woolworths and
weekly report will be generated about the stock which will be sent to the operation manger
and this report will help them clear out the situation of stock exceed or shortage. #
Working like this will make benefit of the Woolworths and increase its share into the share
market and the gained profit can be then used for the implementation of new another branch
at another spot. New branches at new cities will increase the business worldwide.
Document Page
Owner
The director of Woolworths will be the owner of the new process that will be implemented at
Woolworths. He will be able to stop the process and also to increase the process sensitivity if
they feel the changes are making profit (Pham, 2014).
Environment
In this idea, the only constraint can be faced is the involvement of the competitors that might
engage the process in some other way and might create a new solution to the generated idea.
But as this idea is in the simplest form, no new idea with same specification would be able to
penetrate through it and customer will be in the circle of Woolworths.
