Project Management Analysis: Woolworths Online Service Implementation

This report analyzes the project management strategies employed by Woolworths Group Limited during the COVID-19 pandemic, specifically focusing on the implementation of online services for its retail business. INTRODUCTION

Project management is the process that leads the work of the team for achieving the all
the projects and goals that are required for the giving constraints. It is also considered to be the
information that is considered to be described as the project documentation that is created for the
beginning of the development of the process. In this assessment the selected organization is
Woolworths Group Limited which is a supermarket retailer that is headquartered in Bella Vista,
Sydney with extensive operations throughout the Australia and New Zealand. The project this
organization was part of was the implementation of online services for the retail business during
the Covid-19 pandemic. In this project the evaluation has been described as the selection of the
project which is the process of research. In this project the reason why the alternative project
method can be used has been explained.
MAIN BODY

The project that was implemented by Woolworths Group Limited during the pandemic
was related to the ways in which it would be able to implement online services to its customers
in order to be adapt to the situations. The general operations of this company was that of the
supermarket retailer that in which the customers had to visit the super market store in order
purchase their required products. During the pandemic to provide the customers with the
essential products and services as they had to be isolated due to the lockdown which were
implemented during the pandemic.
This project for this organization had the following stages which were important to be
undertaken in order to successfully complete their project,
Project initiation :
At the initiation of this project the project had developed certain aims and objectives
which were been the focus of the organization in order to achieve the success that is required.
This was the stage in which the project goals were also determined. In this stage of the project a
structure was formed for the project in project's character can be determined (Armenia and et.al.,
2019). The focus of this business is very important for the project to identify the stakeholders to
achieve the growth in the organizational practices.
Project planning :
In this project the planning stage is going to be the one in which the scope of this project
would be determined. It will help in the creation of the project plan and which will be followed

as the structure of the teams. In this planning the organization delegated the different
responsibilities to the teams and individuals. In this project the management of the organization
and its operation can be said to be the key factor which will help in defining the roles and
responsibilities that are needed to be undertaken for gaining control of the organizational
policies.
Project execution :
All the resources that the project needed for the online delivery system were allocated in
this project at this stage. This will also be the stage in which the management of the project and
its resources are going to be made. This stage the project process in which the online delivery of
the food during the lock-downs will be conducted are going to be taken. It also helps the
organization in fixing issues that may rise during the project planning.
Project Monitoring and control :
For this stage the cost and effort required for the delivering of the online services of retail
products will be done. It will also be the process in which the project teams will monitor the
ongoing performance of the organization. It will also allow the company to make sure that the
plan is going exactly in the way and time that it has been planned (Picciotto, 2020). The focus of
preventing the business and its disruption would be to allow the company to gain the competitive
advantage that is required.
Project closure :
This will be the stage in which the project will be completed hence the all the
deliverables that has been made are reviewed for gaining the results that would help with the
gaining the project approval for the documentation for the project and its performance of online
delivery system.
According to the analysation and evaluation of the project of Woolworths group limited
this project was using the waterfall methodology. This was a waterfall methodology because this
methodology emphasizes over a linear progression from beginning to the end of the project. It
was also considered to be the methodology which was often used by the engineers in order to
plan the detained documentation and consecutive execution.
The waterfall methodology is considered to have the following stages which are related
to the chronological process for the work that is based on the fixed dates and requirement of its
outcomes (Kisling, 2019). It is also said to be the method which is helpful for the team to gain

the constant communication unless it has the specific integration of the required and self-
contained organizational operations. The members of the team are considered to b the factor
which are expected to provide the status of the reports and begins once the previous one ends.
Life cycle of waterfall methodology
Requirements
In this stage of the waterfall methodology the project requirements can be gathered and
understood with upfront of the project managers. It is also considered to be the factors which are
helpful for the business to get the best detailed understanding of the project sponsor's
requirement. This is considered to be the factor which si helpful for the single document that has
been described for each stage of the project.
Design
The software developers also are considered to be the technical solution to the problem
set out the product requirements for the inclusion of the scenarios and layouts and data models
for the higher levels of the logical design it is also considered to be helpful for the purpose of the
organization to gain the scope that is required for each component of the project (Legowo and
Aditama, 2020).
Implementation :
It is the design of the project that is helpful for the implementation of the starts that is
helpful for the shortest phase of the waterfall process that is able to gain the requirements for the
specification and also the specialization for the testing and implementation of the factors which
are taking place in the significant change that are required.
Verification or testing
This can be said that the product can be released for the customers to be able to test the
needs of the organization in order to ensure the product that it has no errors and all the
requirements which have been able to ensure that the user experience that the software is able to
develop from the testing the team and the ways in which it will be able to over turn the
operations (Waterfall Methodology, 2021).
Deployment and maintenance
It is the responsibilities of the software to be able to develop the market and its release to
the customers in order to reach the maintenance phase. These are also considered to be the

defects that are found for the change that are requested in order to assign the updates that are
required for the new versions of the software.
Agile methodology of the project management is the way in which the project can be
managed through the breaking down of the several phases. It is said to be the collaboration with
the stakeholders and the continuous improve of the every stage in order to be once the teams
cycle through the process in order to plan and execute the process (Putra, Saedudin and Yunan,
2018). This is yet another method which the project could have selected for completion of its
operations.
Life cycle of Agile methodology
Concept
In this stage the main concept of the project is determined and the priorities of the project
are also highlighted. This is the stage in which the project gathers all the required documents and
other advisable requires for the project.
Inception
This is the stage in which the process of the project is designed and the team is able to
interface the project architecture and the inception stages for the involvement of the input of the
stakeholders.
Iteration
It is also the stage that is also referred to as the construction that generally tends to be the
longest phase of carrying out the work. It is the project of building functionality of the project.
Release
It is the stage which is known for the monitoring of the quality of the project and its
practices, it is also helpful for addressing the ways in which the developers are able to swifty be
able to gain the access to the training and also be able to generate required documentation
(Chandran and Das Aundhe, 2022).
Maintenance
In this stage all the issues and areas of development are addressed in this type of projects.
It will help the project team and the manager to rectify the mistake which might have occurred.
Retirement
It is the last stage of the project in which it has been able to achieve targets and objectives
which are essential for the project to gain effectiveness.

The method was appropriate in the circumstances as having waterfall methodology
managers helps the team to gain the constant communication unless it has the specific integration
of the required and self-contained organizational operations but it has been agile because of
several reasons. Both the methodologies such as waterfall and agile is important but agile
methodology would be highly preferable as it can help measure the performance of team-mates
and produces essential metrics such as cycle time of projects, lead time and provide data to make
effective decisions (Abdelghany, Darwish and Hefni, 2019).
Superior quality method- In today's business world, it is one of the most popular
approaches used by managers and even employees to enhance project management. Due to its
evolutionary and flexibility nature this approaches has made its place in the business
environment of project (Venkatesh and Rakhra, 2020). Basically, it consists of various
methodologies and all of them are totally based on the different concepts of quality, transparency
and improvement of projects on continuous basis. With the help of agile methodology the
manager can easily identify bottlenecks and make data driven decision in order to correct them
so that it can provide better results.
Better control and improve project predictability- It is very powerful tool which can be
used by managers and clients so that they can easily handle project management process. It
allows managers and other employees to have better control over the process of project just
because of its nature such as quality control features and transparency (Ribeiro and Domingues,
2018). It can easily provide daily report of progress to managers which can be helpful to predict
risks and identify key issues so that managers can be ensured that the project is running smoothly
or not. As agile methodology is very important in project management, because with the help of
agile methodology the project manager can easily manage their projects and important task by
just dividing it up into various phases. It is effective in nature because by having this
methodology the manager can easily collaborative with each other just by following few steps.
Constant collaboration is very essential with stakeholders as it can provide continuous
development at each step. Whenever team wants to process the work of project, they can cycle
through a planning process and proper evaluation and execution of work. By having this method,

team members can manage work more efficiently and do the work in order to successful
completion of project.
CONCLUSION

the report it has been concluded that with the help of agile methodologies the managers of the
company can have better control over the project just because of its effective nature that is
quality control and transparency. Not only this, by having proper project management steps the

reduce risks and increase flexibility. By doing so, company can easily improve the team
members motivational level because now they are able to handle projects effectively which also
helps them to continuous improvement.
