INTRODUCTION
Work based learning is the type of learning which takes place in real life environment. It
help an individual to analyse their skills which help them to start their professional career. Every
company aims to introduce a new project for the benefit of their organisation to earn more profit.
The main aim of every project within a company is to maximize their profit earnings by
attracting customers (Bedi and Toshniwal., 2019). Britannia hotel is founded by Alex Langsam
in the year 1976. It is headquartered in Hale, UK. Britannia hotel is introducing a new project of
opening a health and fitness club within their hotels which help their customers to maintain their
healths by increasing their knowledge about the ways which help them to maintain their fitness.
This report covers description of new project and their aims and objectives, the ways by which
the project if managed, monitored and evaluated the progress of the project. Beside this, it also
covers the ways of completing project before deadline. In the end it covers the reflection of
SWOT analysis and Porter five forces of the specific project.
MAIN BODY
Setting targets, aims and objectives of the project
Britannia Hotel is planning to make a Health and Fitness Centre in their hotel which is on the
basis of increasing demand and preferences of consumers that they want to have the facility of
Health and Fitness Centre in a hotel(Sung and Hwang, 2018). For this, the floor manager of a
hotel have been given the responsibility of managing the things which is required in making a
Health and Fitness Centre. The targets, aims and objectives of a project have been set which are
discussed below-
Project targets- The target which has been set for making a Health and Fitness Centre is around
2 months by which it it will be made. By conducting a research and asking feedbacks from the
consumers it has been analysed that the people who come for a stay wants that Britannia Hotel is
having a Health and Fitness Centre. In the present time as people are getting aware with the
health and for this they have joined the health and fitness centre. So in this case, they do not want
to leave any of their day even if they are staying in a hotel. The target for Britannia hotel is the
people who from the age group of 18 to 40.

Project Aims- As the prevalence of fitness centres and the weight rooms are being increasing so
the Britannia Hotels have also decided to make a Health and Fitness centre so that it can be used
by people who come to stay in a hotel(Guerrero-Roldán and Noguera, 2018). They are making
gym so that none of the guest have to make the discontinuation of their workout and that no one
can give the hotel a feedback of not having a gym. So, the Britannia Hotel have made the
decision of making a Health and Fitness centre so that people can make and workout there. If the
hotel will not be having a Health and Fitness centre then in this case the option for those people
who are conscious about it will not make a choice of Britannia Hotels.
Project Objectives- The ultimate objective of making a Health and Fitness centre is to provide
the facility of doing workout and to make people healthier. The other reason because of which
Britannia Hotels have taken the decision of is that all the other hotels and successful one already
have a Health and Fitness centre because of which the people are more health conscious takes the
preference of choosing that hotel which is providing them the facility of Health and Fitness
centre. This is why Britannia hotel has also made the decision of initiating the project of making
this centre so that large target group of customer can come up. They want to make this
development so that they can gain more customer base(Hung, 2018).
Managed, monitored and evaluated the progress of the project throughout on the basis of project
life cycle from its starting the end of project
Project life cycle is the process which is used by the project manager in order to make it
systematic so that the benefits can be achieved from the project (Widmann and Mulder., 2018).
For making a Health and Fitness centre in Britannia Hotel there is certain procedure which has to
be followed up so that the project can be completed on time and the objectives also gets met.
There are different steps which are also followed in making a Health and Fitness centre and those
steps are explained below-
Identification phase- This stage is also known as the initiation stage where the projects
aims and objectives gets started. With this, the opportunities and other needs of the
business is identified and is checked that if the project has to be started or not. In case of
Britannia Hotels which is starting a project of Health and Fitness centre as they have
identified the importance of it and that in which way it will helps in increasing the image
of a hotel(Li and et. al., 2020). As they are also providing a type of service and when any

of the hotel lacks in providing any of the service then the chances of achieving success
also lacks.
Planning phase- Planning is the stage in which all the things are planned as to how the
things and work plan has to be done. Usually, detailed planning is done in this stage
which covers all the materials and resources which will be required for completing the
project(Bernstein, 2018). In case of, Britannia Hotels which are planning to make a
Health and Fitness centre have to make the planning of all the things and who will be the
key people who will be making the work done. In this case, Floor manager is assigned
with the duty of managing the things.
Implementation, monitoring and controlling phase- In this stage, implementation of
plan is done which is to make a Health and Fitness centre in Britannia Hotel. With the
process of making implementation the activities are also monitored so that it can be seen
that if the project is under right direction or not(Bonk and et. al., 2018). Controlling is
that stage in which the standards of the marked criteria is seen that if the established
standards are met or not. It is a very important and useful step in which the
implementation is taking place also the controlling and monitoring of things is taken into
consideration.
Closure phase- This is the last stage where the projects gets implemented and is finished
where by the products gets delivered to the target consumer. Here as the Britannia Hotels
wants to make a Health and Fitness centre so in this case the project of making this will
be completed and also people who come to stay will be coming to use that centre.
In what way from the start of a project the deadlines were achieved and how the benefits and
stages of aims and objectives of project were met
The use of project life cycle is an important step in which it helps in providing the path as
to how the project needs to be done and what will be the way by which the project will be
completed on time. With the proper initiation of project and use of right material the Britannia
hotels was able to make the completion of project on time(Ibáñez and Delgado-Kloos, 2018).
The deadlines of making Health and Fitness was achieved because of the proper planning and
allocation of resources on time. This was the biggest reason because of which the work was
completed on time. The reason for this is that it happens many of the time that the project does

not gets completed because of the resources or the assigned people are not working in a proper
way. But the floor manager has to work in all these aspects in case of completing the Health and
Fitness centre on time. The main benefit which the project will be providing to Britannia Hotels
is that the customers share will get increased and the revenue percentage of hotel will also be
increased. The main aim of Britannia hotel was that none of the consumer have to face the issues
that they are not able to do workout in the gym or any of the health centre because they are not
provided with this facility(He and et. al., 2018). So because of this reason, the main criteria was
met and because of thing they have to make the Health and Fitness centre so that no consumer
can give them the feedback of not having a Health and Fitness centre which will be spread to the
market at a faster rate. The objectives of Britannia hotel was simple that they just want to make a
centre which is providing them all the benefits which has to be there in a health centre(Inkelas
and et. al., 2018). They know that people are becoming health conscious and they want that there
exercise is not left. This is known by the management also that the importance of making a
Health and Fitness centre have been increased as they want to make their services excellent.
SWOT analysis
This is the model which is used to analyse the strengths and weakness of a project and various
kind of opportunities and threats faced by managing and monitoring the project. SWOT analysis
of Britannia hotel's new project Health and Fitness Club is mentioned below-
Strengths-
As a supervisor, I noticed that this particular project of Health and Fitness club increases
Hotel Britannia's efficiency to attract new customers (Kato and et. al., 2020). After
introducing this project, there are many new customers which is gained by the
organisation. Hence, this benefits the hotel to make strong customer base.
According to me, Britannia hotel's brand image will help them to gain more customers
for their fitness club.
Weakness-
According to me, it is tough to manage activities and maintaining the budget for this
project longer than a fix period of time. I am unable to maintain the budget which is
offered by finance department to me.

There is a lack of proper conduction of research before starting this project (Carter Jr and
et. al., 2020). I am unable to understand the preference and opinions of targeted
customers for this project.
Opportunity-
According to me, Britannia hotel must hire skilled and talented employees for managing
this club who have appropriate knowledge of exercises and nutritious food to eat (Gee,
Hull and Lankshear., 2018). Here, trainers knowledge and management skill will decide
the success of this project.
Adopting various kind of tools and machines for this club will help them to grow well.
On the other hand, providing free membership to loyal customers for this club is effective
for the growth of this club.
Threat-
Covid pandemic creates biggest threat for this project. I analyse that most of the
customers refuses to take the membership of this club as the reason behind refusing is
avoiding social gathering.
I also analyse that competitors of Britannia hotel also adopted some innovative projects
to attract customers (Huriah and et. al., 2018). Most of the hotels are already having this
type of health and fitness club with low charges.
Porters five force model
It is a framework which can help the company in analysing the competitive environment
in the market. It is important for the company to make sure that they are having appropriate
business strategies which can help them in increasing the competitors advantage in the market.
Competition in the market: It is important for the hotel to have competitors advantage
in the market and it can be achieved by providing unique services and products to customers.
This factor helps the company in analysing what are the different competitors that the hotel is
having in the market (Stephenson ed., 2018). As Britannia Hotels are present in this industry for
a long period of time, it will be difficult for other companies to reach to that level.
Threat of new entrants: It refers to the threat that the hotel can face due to the increase
in the number of new entrants in the industry. No matter how small or new the company is, it
will acquire a little share in industry. It is important for the Britannia hotels to make sure that

they are continuously improving their services and are providing unique services to their

Power of suppliers: Suppliers plays a major role in the workings of the company.
Britannia Hotels are in this industry for a long time and suppliers are willing to deal with the
hotel due to its good reputation so power of suppliers is low in this.
Power of customers: Customers are the guests of the hotel. It is important for the hotel
to make sure that they are providing unique and exceptional services to their customers as it will

workings and growth of the hotel highly depends up on guests of the hotel, the power of buyers
are extremely high in this regards.
Threat of substitute product: As hotels try to innovate their services according to the
trends of the industry, there is a specific and unique services which is specially offered to the
customers of that particular hotel. If the hotel's unique service is copied by any other competitor
then it no longer remains unique. The hotels serve to families as well as travellers and it requires
high amount of investment to compete with the hotel so threat of substitute is low.

CONCLUSION
From the above report, it is concluded that new projects can bring new opportunities for
the company. It is important for the hotels to continuously improve their workings with the help
of innovation as it will make sure that the hotel is able to fulfil the needs and demands of the
customers as the markets are highly dynamic and the preferences of the customers change
according to the trends of the market. If the hotel is needed to understand the demand of the
market and must take corrective actions which can help them in attracting new customers. In
order to analyse the internal environment of the industry and Porters Five forces model will help
the company in understanding competitive environment of the market.
