The Independent Work Experience module helped me to experience the world of work and to
develop my employability and personal skills. This module is designed to provide the experience
of the workplace as a prospect for developing an identity. It critically analyzed and reflected
upon the strengths and weaknesses, skills and learning styles and also helped to plan the ways to
learn from the desired experiences (Travers, Morisano and Locke, 2015). Employability skills
should be taken seriously in the degree programs. Recognizing the skills and awareness of
people is important. For employability of graduates below mentioned are the four key skills:
Knowledge about the working of the organizations which includes appraisal procedures,
induction programs, objectives, and goals (Solano, 2015)
Personal attributes such as reliability, initiative, resilience, creativity, flexibility,
adaptability and self-reliance
The key and personal skills- self-management, problem-solving, handling of data,
working with others, managing my learning and communication
Traditional intellectual skills which include the application of theory to practice,
modeling problems quantitatively and qualitatively, the capability of arguing logically
and critically evaluating the evidence
Every area discussed above is essential to get the work experience, but the range to which a
particular area is important will depend on the type of work, I am doing. Gaining knowledge,
enlightening self-performance and critical evaluation will be vital.
A theory of learning Kolb carried out a substantial quantity of research into the way an
individual learn. Kolb put forward a theory that an individual learns cyclically (Ibrahim, Noh
and Abas, 2017). He suggested that, as our growth happens, we develop tendencies and
inclinations to learn new things in a precise manner, without inevitably understanding that it
is so. As there are more choices to how we can learn we are more likely to let our preferred
style of learning influence our selection. Kolb describes four stages of learning, and he
believed that individuals are hardly operational in all stages namely Pragmatist, Theorist,
Reflector or Activist.

Figure 1: Learning skills followed by me
Lifelong learning experience helped me to acquire knowledge from my previous understandings
whether practical or academic. It is important that I am aware of my weaknesses and strength
and I am capable enough to take up any sort of responsibility for refining my performance. Work
experience thus gives a flawless opportunity to do this, and by occupied through this module I
have an opportunity to expand my learning experience. This will be important if I involve in self-
employment. Work experience can act as an actual value to employers as well as individuals.
Analysis of Personal skills
A variety of general skills are necessary to be effective both in our day-today life and work for
example communicating in various ways, setting of goals, problem-solving ability, and
management of time (Cai et al., 2015). Irrelevant of whatever previous experience we have, it is
important for us to continue to develop skills in new contexts and at higher levels. It is not right
that what we previously learned or done need no further revision. The main point of personal
skills is that we utilize and improve the skills every phase so that we can handover our skills to
new situations and experiences.
