Position description
I work as a store manager and my primary objective is to manage the branch of Australian
hardware by aligning with policies and corporate standards. Among the main policies of this

store manager (SM) of our company for gathering their feedback on my performance in this

The meeting between chief operating officer, another store manager and I, has taken place to
identify key skills that have improved my performance in the workplace. Moreover, different
gaps in my work performance have also been analyzed by them. Questions were done by
them to identify my key skills and gaps. Gap in communication skill was identified by them
that I must develop to improve work performance. I have demonstrated my concern regarding
the feedback, which is a part of active listening techniques. This technique can help me to
demonstrate my gaps in skills and gain trust of listeners. Open-ended questioning technique
was used by me to elicit the feedback. As mentioned by Popping (2015), open-ended
questions help in elaborated and wider discussion about a topic, which helps in proper
collection of knowledge.
Professional development plan has helped in eliminating the gap that is impacting in my
performance in the workplace.
Different feedback that was collected during the meeting were analyzed and different skills
like communication and listening skills were given priority in the plan. During the meeting,
feedback was given by chief operating officer that has helped me to identify and evaluate
development opportunities. Communication and listening skills can be developed through
auditory learning styles. Moreover, coordination with others and respecting other cultures can
be done through kinesthetic learning style. Kinesthetic learning style can be achieved by
creating personal experiences and processing information by practicing (Ibrahim & Hussein,
2016).
