Introduction
The aim of this paper is to evaluate the occupational health and safety by evaluating
Workers Compensation Act of Alberta. The duties of employers in terms of dealing with
accident in the workplace will also be discussed in the paper.
Explain the purposeWorkers Compensation Act of Alberta
Workers Compensation Act of Alberta is one of the most critical regulatory frameworks,
which intends to guide the firms in order to deal with accident at workplace. According to the
act, accident is one of the most challenging situations, which can happen at any point of time in
the workplace. The fundamental purpose of Workers Compensation Act of Alberta is to provide
benefit to the staffs, faced accident in the workplace (Reese, 2015). In addition, this act also
deals with the human rights issues of the staffs along with their complaints. This act also deals
with protecting the fundamental rights of the staffs, who are facing discrimination in the
workplace in the way of getting employment opportunity, accessing the training and
development program and take part in the decision making process (Albertahumanrights.ab.ca.
2019).
Duties of the employers when an accident has occurred in the workplace
Workplace accident is one of the most challenging situations, which can affect the
organizational productivity. Thus, it is the legal obligations of the employers to ensure the fact
that their organization is free from any kind of hazardous situation and the employees have
appropriate health and safety training which can enable them to deal with the accident easily. It

is the legal obligation of the employers to follow all the steps of executing safety measure at the
workplace. As per the case study, one of the employees of Engineered Air has met an accident in
the workplace which has created breakage in the arm traumatic mental disorder (Amponsah-
Tawiah & Mensah, 2016). In order to mitigate such situation, it is the prime responsibility of the
employers to take necessary steps at the very first place. It is the duty of the employers to
provide the employees with correct protective equipment. In order to mitigate the issues related
to accident, it is the duty of the employers of Engineered Air to provide the assemblers with right
equipment, visibility jackets and helmets, rubber gloves and non-slip shoes so that they can
perform their task properly without the fear of accident. On the other hand, it is the legal
obligations of the employees to ensure their own safety (Lyons, 2019). In addition, the
employees must also avoid putting themselves in such situation which can lead them to face
accident.
Steps, followed by the employees in dealing with the accident
After meeting with the accident, it is the prime responsibility of the employers to take necessary
steps in a timely manner. From the case study, it is evident that the one of the full-time
assemblers of Engineered Air has met an accident, which has resulted in severe health related
issue in him. Thus, according to Workers Compensation Act, it is the prime responsibility of the
human resource professional of Engineered Air to provide first aid to the employee who had ne
the accident. Then, the root cause of the accident must be analyzed. It is the prime responsibility
of the HR professionals to place the issue upon the management and implement safety measure
for the sake of avoiding such issue in future. In addition, it is the prime responsibility of the
employers to manage the workload of the absent employees properly (Guennoc, Chauvin & Le

Recommendations for managing Return to Work program for the employee
Return to Work program is one of the major ways of dealing with stress level of the
staffs. It allows the employees in an organization to foster positive working environment by
reducing their days away from work. Thus, the employers should manage the return to work
program at the workplace. It is recommended for the employers to allow the employees to start
that type of task, which they think that they will accomplish. In addition, it is suggested for the
employers to increase the working hour of the staffs gradually. This can help in generating
positive image among the staffs (Evangelinos et al. 2018).
