INTRODUCTION
Communication can be defined as the way to convey the thought. Communication is
simply a process where two persons or sometimes the whole bunch of people interact with each
other to talk about the thought. In this report the importance of communication at work place
will be brief about. All types of communication will also be discussed in this report. Important
module of communication will also be a part of this report. This report also give information
about the communication at the work place and its related aspects. All the ways to improve the
communication is also discussed in this report.
MAIN BODY
Communication
Communication is a process where two or more then two people convey each others
thought to one another. Communication is a way to express the thought a person has in his mind.
Communication involve sender, receiver and any other related person to the message needs to
convey (Giles, 2016). Simply it can be said that communication is all about transferring the
ongoing thought in the mind of the person who wants to communicate with someone.
Communication also include language that can be use to make the communication.
Purpose of the report
The purpose of this report is to give the complete detail about the communication at the
work place and its importance at the work place. Main purpose is to give the complete brief
about the communication at the work place with all the related aspects of the job and also to
focus on the way to improve the communication at the work place.
Importance of communication
Successfully Job Implementation: Communication play the key role in successfully
implementation of the assigned job (Markovic and Salamzadeh, 2018). To implement the job
successfully it is mandatory to understand all the aspects of the job and that only possible with a
good communication skill.
Solving Issue: Work place involves many activities and issues are very common aspect of work
place. Communication is the only way to resolve any issue that happens at work place.
Understanding Customer's Demand: Being a hairstylist it is mandatory to understand the
needs and demands of the customer and that only to complete the whole work successfully.

Customer Relationship: Communication helps in building relationship with customer's (Adler,
Rodman and Du Pré,, 2016). Relationship with customer's always give the complete boost to the
growth and development of the business and that only possible with proper and effective way of
communication.
Types of Communication
Communication can be of three types verbal, non-verbal and written.
Verbal Communication
Verbal communication is an oral way to communicate. It involve various aspects as a part
of the communication cycle. Such aspects are as follows:
Sender: Sender is a person who wants to communicate the message or the thought. In the
business of hairstyling sender can be anyone it can be the senior authorities, boss, stylist and the
client as well (Lemonnier, 2016). Sender is the first aspect of the whole communication process.
He is origin of the entire communication because of this thoughts.
Encoding: Encoding is the process to translate the entire thought in the most suitable language
that can be understood for the receiver of the massage. Once the thought has arisen in the mind
of the sender it needs to be encode by him to convey it further and that process is call encoding.
Message: Message is the final result of encoding. Message is the ultimate outcome of the
thought. Message denote the thought of the sender which he wants to convey to the receiver.
Receiver: Receiver is the person who receive the message. Receiver can be said as the ultimate
destination for the entire thought of the sender. Receiver is the sole reason behind the entire
communication process. In the hairstyling business receiver can be hairstylist, co-worker, senior
authorities and the customer also.
Decoding: Once the receiver gets the message from the sender he identifies the whole message
in his language. The process of identification the entire message is call as decoding.
Feedback: Feedback is the ultimate result of the whole communication process in the receiver's
point of view. Feedback is the result of decoding that a receiver understand about the whole
message.

Non verbal form of communication involve actions, gestures, body language and various
aspects that involves in making the whole communication process. In non verbal sender don't use
his voice to interact with the receiver else he try to interact with his gesture, posture and body
language to convey his thought to the receiver.
Written Communication: Written communication is the written form to implement the whole
communication process (Roemer and Rundle-Thiele, 2018). It involve letters, e-mails, texts
messages and other different modes to conduct the communication process. In the business of
hair stylist written communication is a rarely use method to communicate because most of the
communication done verbally because of its convenience.
Modules of Communication
There are various modules that can be use in communication. Such modules are:
Shannon and Weaver's Module
This model is also known as mother of all models because it covers all the aspects of
effective communication (Petersons and Khalimzoda, 2016). In involve sender, encoder,
channel, noise, decoder, receiver and feedback as a part of communication process.
Sender: Sender is defined in this module as a person who initiate the whole communication
process. It is the one who wants to convey his thought to someone else.
Encoder: Encoder can be defined as a way to convert the thought of the receiver into some
language that can be convey to the receiver.
Channel: Channel is the process of conveying the thought to the receiver after it is encoded.
Channel can be said as the medium which convey the thought to the receiver.
Noise: Noise include all the barrier of communication in reaching successfully to its receiver.
Noise can involve in each stage of the communication process.
Decoder: Decoder is the way to identify the whole message by the receiver with the help of
machine or some other factor.
Receiver: Receiver is the person to whom the massage was sent by the receiver. With the help of
decoding receiver receive the whole massage of sender.
Feedback: Feedback is the final stage of the whole communication. It happens when the
receiver of the massage react on the received massage. That process is call as feedback.
Berlo's Module

Berlo's model of communication process focuses on encoding the massage before
proceeding further in communication process by sender and to decoding the whole message
before receiver receives the message (John, Brooks and Schriever, 2019). In involves sender,
message, channel and receiver.
Sender: Sender is the person in this module that convey the whole message to the receiver. This
model erase the encoding of the message as if sender do it on a prior basis.
Message: Message is denoted as the thought of the sender which he wants to convey to the
receiver. Message involve content, element, treatment, structure and code.
Channel: Channel is the medium to convey the whole message. It can be any medium like
internet, mobile phone or any thing that can convey the message to the receiver.
Receiver: Receiver is the the person who receive the whole message from the sender with the
help of channel.
Schramm's Module
Schramm's module is a method of communication that involves sender, message, receiver
and semantic barrier.
Sender: Sender is the person who sent the whole message to the receiver.
Message: Message denoted as the whole thought of the sender behind the communication.
Receiver: Receiver is the person to whom message has sent by the sender.
Semantic Barrier: It include all the beliefs that sender use to identifying the whole message by
the sender.
Communication at the work place
Communication at the work place of hairstyling happens with various aspects. Such are:
Between Employees: Communication in the hairstyling organisation largely happens between
the co-worker's. Co workers are the huge part of the job at the work place (Greenaway and et.al.,
2015). Co workers discuss about multiple aspects related to the job on the work place. Every
aspect of the job like latest fashion, trends, methods are all a part of the communication between
co workers at the work place. Co workers play the huge role in making the positive environment
at the work place but that only possible with a good and friendly communication among co
workers.
Employer- Employee: Communication at the work place is very crucial at the work place of
hairstyling. Employee can discuss about all the issues and problems an employee face in

fulfilling all his duties with only an effective medium of communication (Riley and Furst-
Holloway, 2019). Communication plays the key role is solving issue between employer and
employee at the work place. All the improvement that is require to upgrade the business of
hairstyling can be discussed only with an effective and efficient communication. Good
communication always keep the positive environment at the work place that also lead to efficient
productivity in the business.
Barrier to Communication
There are various barrier that can be a part of the communication. Such barriers are:
Language: Language can be the big barrier in the communication. Language become the crucial
part of the communication process because all the thoughts can only proceed further with the use
of language. As a hair stylist if the language of the customer is not understandable then the
output of the communication will be negative.
Noises: Noises becomes the big barrier in making an communication. Noises can mislead the
whole communication because it blocks the proper medium of communication that turns into
unclear understanding of the message. Being a hairstylist if the much noise is surrounded then it
will block the communication between customer and the hairstylist or between the co workers.
Misleading Gesture: Sometimes gestures of the communicator mislead the whole
communication. In the communication process many times communicator use gestures or
postures to make the whole communication so the surrounded people don't get involve in the
communication and that create confusions between the communicators many times.
Gender Difference: Many times the person belongs to different genders don't feel comfortable
to communicate and that cause to big barrier in the communication. Being a hairstylist different
customers that involve opposite gender also and that cause to barrier sometimes in the
communication process.
Effective Communication
Effective communication is the key to give the satisfactory service to all the customer's.
As a hairstylist effective communication will build the relationship with all the customer's and
that helps to grow the business (Austin and Pinkleton, 2015). Effective communication ease the
working environment that turns into positive result for the whole business.

Ways to improve the communication
Open Minded Approach: Open minded approach helps a lot in improving the communication.
It gives the wide perspective to understand the message sender wants to convey. Being a hair
stylist it is important to understand the requirement of the customer and for that open minded
approach really helps in identifying the requirements of the customer.
Simple Language: Language is very crucial in making communication. Language must be
simple and understandable for both sender and receiver to make an effective communication.
Developing Listening Skills: Listening skills always helps in understanding the message of the
sender. To get the complete brief about the message listening skills are mandatory. To develop
the listening skill concentration is the key to improve. Hairstylist should more concentrate while
listening to others in communication.
Body Language: For an effective communication body language create a huge impact on the
whole communication. Proper body language can be use to improve the communication skills.
