Subject: Three Key Impacts on Communication
The aim of this executive summary is to present the impact of different factors on
effective communication skills in the workplace. Communication in the business organization
is an important factor which help the employees to share information as well as giving
feedbacks about their situation within the workplace. There are two types of organizational
communication present in the organizational setting. One is the horizontal and another is
vertical. In the horizontal process of communicator, the knowledge and communication is
shared among the employees. Similarly, the vertical communication process can be up
bottom or bottom up. The management shares knowledge to employees through up bottom
process and collect feedback from the bottom level employees to consider change. However,
there are various factors that affect the communication process in the workplace. These
include the effect of difference in culture, difference in the position of the communicators and
functional relationship of the communicators who belong in the same teams.
Impact of hierarchical position:
The impact of hierarchical position on the communication process is important to
discuss. This this regard, the study by Rehm, Gijselaers and Segers (2015, p. 120), have
pointed out that the position difference maintain the communication flow within the
organization. In this aspect the speaker and the listeners if are from different hierarchy of the
organization, in most of the case their communication is formal. They often fail to understand
each other and the communication process gets affected. In many cases, the superiors seem to
pay less attention to their subordinates. On the other hand the subordinates try to avoid
observing the instructions of the higher authorities.

Functional relationship of the communicators in team setting:
According to Marlow et al. (2018, p. 147), the team communication is effectively
associated with the performance of the teams. This is important as the team members of a tea
have similar functional relationship hence their communication becomes effective while it
comes to the process of mitigating issues within team and knowledge sharing. The team
member as have a special understanding among them and share similar perceptions, these
impact on their communication. In this regard the authors have pointed out that as the
functional relationship of the communicators remain same, the meaning of the
communication become easier to understand.
Difference in culture:
Finally, the study by Jenifer and Raman (2015, p. 350), points out that the
organizations in these days are expanding heavily. These companies are therefore, getting
diverse day by day. Now in this global context, the business have become more diverse with
people from different culture have started to contribute their talents to achieve the
organizational goals. This is the reason why, they need effective resources and knowledge
which will be only gain through effective communication process. Now this cultural diversity
highly manipulates the cross cultural communication process within the organization.
Therefore, it can be concluded that there are some very important factors which
directly impact upon the communication process of an organization. The factors like
differences in position, culture and functionality of the employees manipulate the
communication process based on which the sharing of information or for that matter
knowledge becomes flexible in the business organizations.
