Introduction
Every organization throughout the world consists of a communication system without
considering the ownership, location, length and other factors that differentiate them.
Communication is thus a vital tool for the organization used in transferring information from
source to recipient via a communication medium. The reason behind this is the fact that
every organization are based on people who need to communicate in order to run the
operations of organizations smoothly. For this, communication is now among the top
management principles.
The major two categories of communication within an organization are Formal
Communication and Informal Communication. Communication in an organization flows in
three directions: Upward communication, downward communication and horizontal or lateral
communication. Some major factors affect communication within an organization. These
factors include: Environmental factors, External factors, internal factors and some other
factors (Bovée, Thill and Raina 2016)
Environmental factors
The environment of an organization is composed of some factors which affect the
communication systems. These factors are an individual’s personal factor, that creates visual
problems and auditory factors. Auditory factors include noise, echoing and the distance
between the sender and receiver (Solaja, Idowu and James 2016).
Environmental factors influenced communication between adults including communication
disabilities and healthcare providers in the World Health Organization’s International
Classification of Functionality, Disability and Health (ICF) (2001)
External factors
The external factors impacting on an organisation’s communication are the political stability
of the nation, availability of technology, the economy of the country, level of competition.
Political Stability depends on the governance type in the country where the organization is
located. Communication is not effective in countries which are politically instable

differentiate an organization using hand delivered to share information from one office to
another. In countries with good economic situations, people obey the appropriate
communication channel. An organization with high competitive environment encourages the
top management and subordinates to keep communication effective (Rogiest, Segers and van
Witteloostuijn 2015).
Amazon has a reputation in communication. It communicates effectively with both its
suppliers and customers. Amazon always believes his customers and responds to customer’s
need. Thus, it is one of the successful organizations of the 21st century.
Internal factors
The internal factors impacting the communication are conflict, poor timing, attitude and
leadership style. If superiors are not good with subordinates, then there will be a problem in
communication. The timing of the message is always important. If the message receives late,
it will create a communication issue. The behaviour and attitude of the sender and receiver
affect communication. If, Sender is not willing to send a message as well as a receiver not
willing to receive message hamper the communication. The organization using the
authoritative style or dictatorship style has poor communication (Chmielecki 2015).
Google, Apple and Elon Musk’s group of companies are the most successful organizations.
Musk’s technique of learning gave him a tremendous advantage.
Conclusion
Communication is important in every workplace in order to run an organization’s operations
smoothly and successfully. The three important factors affecting the communication of an
organization are discussed above. In order to maintain an effective communication within a
workplace, internal factors, external factors and environmental factors are to be managed
efficiently. The various impacts caused due to the factors are also stated here.
