AI Summary
This project delves into the analysis of workplace relationships within a PR consultancy firm, focusing on the communication dynamics between the student, their peers, and their manager. The assignment begins with an exploration of the student's communication background, highlighting the influences of business communication courses and the development of their communication skills. It then describes the specific relationship chosen for the project, detailing how the student met their colleagues and manager, and the patterns of communication observed. The project incorporates two research articles on communication in professional relationships. The core of the assignment is an improvement plan implemented by the student, including perception checks, active listening, and nonverbal communication strategies. 1RELATIONSHIP PROJECT
1. Background of the Relationship
I have studied business communications and have also undertaken various other
management and communications oriented courses to improve my communication levels greatly.
The education and knowledge that I had received had contributed greatly towards shaping my
identity. I view communication as an essential tool for the development of relationships and the
self. The influences the courses had on my learning and development were great. I was able to
express myself more freely to others due to the knowledge of communication that I was able to
gather. I became an efficient communicator due to the various communicational situations that I
was able to know due to my studies. Group assignments helped me to coordinate well with
others. I was further able to improve my skills by efficiently interacting with others. I developed
many good relationships with my leaders and peers through the communication learning that I
developed. Relationships taught me that ethical considerations become very important as one
begins to develop relationships with others. It taught me that both right and wrong decisions are
part of the process of developing important relationship values. Making the right decisions
become important in determining the effectiveness and value of relationships. Making the right
choices are always important in any personal or professional relationships. Additionally, I was
able to learn that communication is the only means through which essential relationships can be
built with a large number of people. The right kind of communication is necessary for bridging
the gap between people that come from different walks of life.
The relationship being focused on for this project is the relationship between me and my
peers and manager at the workplace. It is a relationship that is multifaceted. In this way the
relationship is developed on the basis of trust, mutual respect and friendly bonding to a certain
extent. The profession I was in was a PR consultancy firm in this time. I met my team after the

completion of a training period that went for a month. It was a very good interactive experience
when I first met my team. I was led by my senior teammates as I focused on understanding my
job. The development of strong relationships occurred as time passed. I became closer to
especially my manager and some of the more senior colleagues. The patters that developed
between me and my colleagues were based on both personal and professional needs (Solaja,
Idowu & James, 2016). The bonding helped to group tasks together and coordinate effectively
for the completion of the assigned tasks. The members also understood the personal issues that
were faced by the other members. This enabled a stong communication where everyone became
aware of the issues of others and helped them in their tasks accordingly. The relationship
dynamics were based on mutual trust and respect. This made the communication process easier
and more effective. There were certain ethical issues at times like some of the peers making
others do most of their work at times. This sometimes led to mutual issues between the people.
2. Implementation of the Project
According to Boies, Fiset and Gill (2015) evaluate the effect of transformational
leadership on team performances and creativity. The relationship oriented communication
process was assessed in accordance of its significance in regards to the same context. The
mediation model of team communication though which the leadership can influence team
outcomes was found. The development of trust through communication was an important
element was found to positively affect the team outcomes. According to Goodman-Deane et al.
(2016) communication technology can affect the development of relationship standards between
people. The effect of communication technology on the personal relationship development. The
types of communication have significant effects on the development of relationships. The
findings suggest that positive effect on personal relationship was formed by the use of face to

face communication, phone and video calls. However, social media was found to have negative
effects on satisfaction that is derived from relationships.
There are two perception checks that I utilized as I tried to found more about the
relationship that I had with my peers. One of the perception checks was when I ignored my peers
at work for a certain amount of time. The second perception check that I used was calling one of
my peers to know why he had not called me for a long time. These were decided by me because
these were the bonding factors that existed between me, my peers and the manager. The
perception checks went well and I was able to find that a level of bonding and understanding did
exist between members of the team. The perception checks made certain that the people of the
group were very much inclined to know each other personally. The group members usually were
very friendly with each other and discussed professional problems at a personal level. This made
it very important to them to communicate at a personal level with all the members. Hence, this
situation was important in establishing the relationship values that were present between the
members of the team.
I engaged in active listening whenever I was listening to my peers or my manager. The
listening patterns were always to understand the meaning of what my peers and managers were
going to say and what the implications of the same were. For example- we used this type of
listening patterns mostly in the office environment. The allocation of tasks and the collaborative
business assignments were very important and active listening was needed not only to
understand them but also to understand how the goals and objectives that were important in
fulfilling the tasks were to be achieved. Nonverbal communication was used in various personal
and professional engagement with the Peers and the managers. The nonverbal communication
aspects actually worked in favor of improving the communication levels among the people of the

group (Hänninen & Karjaluoto, 2017). The listening skills were developed by regular training.
The manager gave us proper instructions in regards to listen, understand and capture information.
This made sure that the listening skills were developed effectively. The feedback sessions of the
manager were very much important in developing the various skills that were necessary in
developing optimal levels of communication values within the people of the group. It is
important to understand that the value of communication is always important in group situations.
3. Analysis of the Project
The implementation of the project was an important factor in determining the fair value
of the communication standards that were established as a result of the same. The organizational
environment was improved due to the active listening standards that were developed through the
implementation process. Active listening helped to improve the performance of the employees.
Moreover, an empathetic communicational standard was established within the team. The fact
that everyone was connected on a personal level as a result of the bond that was created by the
team members actually seemed to work for the team. The bonding usually removed all the
barriers that were present with regards to the communicational standards. However, the
understanding development among the various members of the team is something that might
need practice going forward. This is because despite active listening the understandings that
some of the group members had of the various situations were different. Thus, it is important that
more emphasis is provided in this area. The development of stronger binds between the people
can help. This would mean that most of them are able to develop similar levels of
understandings. This is also important to ensure that no form of miscommunications take place.
This is an area that needs practice to be completely optimized.

The change in approach that I took helped to create special platforms for developing
better understandings. The relational dynamics before this were dependent on the type of
relations that the manager had with the rest of his group. Additionally, the relationship dynamics
were also dependent on the way the people viewed thee group and the peers within it. The
relational dynamics were based on mutual trust and respect. It was found through the
consideration of the various literatures that trust was an important factor that facilitated the
development of relational dynamics. For the same to happed relationships needed to go through
personal levels of values and understandings. The change in approach helped to create standards
of interactions that were very important in developing the values. The dynamics for relationships
were positively affected by the interactions that occurred within the organization. It is important
to understand that the approach was taken to improve the standard of communication and it
worked according to the desired outcomes. The conflict patterns were greatly enhanced
positively. The conflict that was generated was regarding the different outlooks of the various
people at the workplace. The implementation of the plan ensured that the conflict situations
could be effectively managed through the implementation of effective communicational means
(Wu et al., 2017). Conflict resolutions became more fluid and effective.
4. Overall Reflection
In the future better results can be obtained by understanding the communication needs
and psychology. The communication patterns that were developed were important and it required
the understanding of the deeper concepts that were related to communication. In the future I
think that better results can be possible by the means of understanding better context values.
The interpersonal relations that exist between couples, siblings, family members and
friends can also greatly benefit from the effective two way communication skills that were

understood from the topic. These relationships need time and patience to grow and develop and
the skills developed can help to make them optimal. The benefit can also be seen from the
development of better listening skills.
The understanding of interpersonal relationships helped me to develop more empathetic
levels of communications. The understanding that was developed was essential in determining
the value of the relationship. Ethical perspectives becomes very important as to build better trust
and understanding between people ethical perspectives are required. Ethical values are important
in determining the value of both relationships and communications. Communication situations
hence need to be approached though better understandings of the standpoints to two parties that
are communicating. Thus, ethical values become important in developing communication
effectiveness.
