TITLE: Workplace discrimination
CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
1.1 Research Proposal
1) Overview of Project
Discrimination refers to phenomenon that mainly present in each company. It is biased treatment
of an individual on affiliation with certain group. In context to workplace discrimination,
employees and the group of staff member are made the prejudice target and an individual is
discriminated provided opportunities that the others are available. The workplace discrimination
reduces employee’s performance and organisational productivity also. There has been
consideration about the gender discrimination at workplace and its main impact on performance
level of staff members. Gender discrimination explains situation under which people are to be
treated in different manner due to female or male rather than according to their capabilities and
skills (Adesoye and et. al., 2017). ALDI is family owned supermarket chain with more than
10000 stores in 20 countries. This company was founded in year 1946 by Karl and Theo
Albrecht. ALDI company claimed that majority of pay gap came from having the more males
than the female workers in its store management positions. ALDI company has enraged male
shopper that accused German supermarket chain of the gender inequality.
2) Rationale of Research
The main rationale behind conducting present research project is to gain the knowledge
regarding workplace discrimination and the basis on which discrimination happen in an
organisation. Gender discrimination is a main issue which female staffs mainly face an
organisation because management gives the more importance and responsibilities to male
employees and this reduces the morale of female staff members. From this investigation, learners
can know about the different issues faced by employees due to the gender inequality. Other than
this, present research helps in enhance the skills and knowledge base of a learner so that it can
able to conduct an investigation in a better manner. For the personal interest, researcher also
conducts the research so that it can gain the better knowledge (Bayl‐Smith and Griffin, 2014).

CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE REVIEW
2.1 Introduction
Literature review refers to comprehensive summary of the previous investigation on
specific subject area. This is associated to academic paper which includes current knowledge
including theoretical contribution as well as substantive findings to specific field of study
(Bharadwaj, Dahl and Sheth, 2014). Within this section, information is collected by the use of
secondary sources such as books, documents, web sites, journals and others. Gathering
information from secondary sources is quick and cost effective.
2.2 Literature review
Workplace discrimination and its impact on organisation
As per opinion of Jill Harness (2020) Workplace discrimination is explained as treating
someone in an unfavorable manner due to personal characteristics protected through legislations.
There are different basis on which discrimination happen for an instance age, gender, sexuality,
religion disability and many other factors. The workplace discrimination occurs when some
person is treated less favorably as comparison to other staff members. This discrimination
develops negative impact on organizational productivity. As employees are not able to work
attaining the specific objectives that mainly set by the top management. Discrimination can also
have the negative impact for an organization and not just because of financial losses from the
lawsuits but working atmosphere that may be experienced staff members. The negative impact
that arise from the workplace discrimination and Organization can be minimize communication,
reduce employees, morale, negative working environment, minimize productivity and many
others. There may be some additional basis like enhance abseentism. The discrimination impact
on company within the community due to this (Dalton and et. al., 2014). Discrimination mainly
impact consumers directly because organization gives service to certain group on the basis of
specific demographic criteria for an instance Race.
Impact of gender discrimination of performance of employees in ALDI
Document Page
According to opinion of PAUL TREVINO (2018) Gender discrimination takes several
forms and it is a difference in earnings among women and men doing similar work type. It
mainly impacts the employee’s performance in ALDI Company but also impact economic
performance level of company. It is illegal and discrimination on gender basis has reaching
implications for female staff members along with male colleagues. In context to this, victims of
the gender discrimination experience the harassment that can enhance anxiety and depression.
On the other hand, unfair treatment enhances the stress level that leads to the more chances of the
physical illness. It causes the staff members to enhance abseentism due to health issues. From
this, staffs members do not work in a better manner and neglect to work that result in reduce the
organisational goals (Bruce and et. al., 2015). The enhance health issues of employees can
enhance health care claims and this can lead to the insurance cost for management. Other than
this, gender basis discrimination exist at workplace, culture of ALDI can be minimum attentive
to the complexities arise about gender harassment. The people those face gender inequality are
minimum likely to be come forward with the issues that reduce the employees productivity. At
workplace, management treat the female employees less favourable as compare to male
employees. They think that male is more capable and responsible for performing any activities
and tasks. This reduces the morale of female staff members and they are not retaining at
workplace for long time period. This kind of issues develops negative impact on the
organisational productivity.
Various ways ALDI should adopt to prevent workplace from gender discrimination
On the basis of Jess Fuhl (2020) preventing the workplace discrimination from the gender
bias is necessary for enhancing the employee performance in also searching them for long period
of time at workplace. There are some of the effective ways ALDI Company should be adopted to
remove the gender discrimination at preventing the workplace discrimination from the gender
bias. It is necessary for enhancing the employee performance and also sustaining them for long
period of time at workplace. There are some of the effective ways and company should be
adopted to remove the gender discrimination from workplace:
Be transparent- It is law for all the organisations who was certain size in United
Kingdom. ALDI Company should have clear action Plan on steps which it is taking as to close
gender pay gap with the clear milestones and targets. It is necessary for this organisation to

communicate clearly about the policies at workplace and also define intangible progress that
company plan to make (Jones and et. al., 2017).
Give training on the unconscious bias - Under this, it is necessary for ALDI
organisation to educate its all staff members regarding their own unconcerned. It is no guarantee
that attitude will be changed but this does help the staff members to understand bias and work
towards remove them effectively (Kaushik, Sharma and Kaushik, 2014).
Standardised price and review salaries- There is a need to an organisation to review the
salaries for the parity among places and genders on frequently basis. When hiring, set pay scale
provided on the basis of experience with some for special achievements not on basis how
candidate negotiation according to last pay package (Krishna, Kim and Shim, 2018).

CHAPTER 3: METHODOLOGY
3.1 Research Approaches
It is considered as an important plan and procedures that can be used for collect, analysis
and interpretation data with the aim of determining the actual results of research project. In this
researcher is responsible for analyzing the nature of the research in order to address the particular
issues and problem on which current study is undertaken. It is classified into two approaches
such as inductive and deductive. For undertaking this research, investigator will use deductive
research approach that help in gathering quantitative information that is valid and reliable in
nature.
3.2 Methodologies
1) Sampling
It is a process of choosing sample size from large number of populations with the aim of
collecting relevant data and information. It is based on two techniques such as probabilistic and
non-probabilistic. Under this research, investigator will use probabilistic sampling technique in
which all the selected respondents get equal chances to be selected. By this, researcher selected
30 respondents that help in gathering reliable information.
2) Data analysis
This refers to the analysis and simulation of data in order to identify relevant data and facilitate
decision-making. A researcher must evaluate data and knowledge for project or study progress.
Data analysis highlights the importance of analysing evidence by using both statistical and
analytical methods to identify credible information in the decision-making process. In order to
analyse the data, thematic analysis and interpretation has been made (Lucifora and Vigani,
2016).
3) Cost, access and ethical considerations
Under present research, Ethics is the key field that needs to be addressed during the successful
execution of any research activities. Ethics is defined as standards, concepts, beliefs and morals
that must be followed when the investigation related activities are included. This is important to
keep respondents ' data and details confidential, in order to establish proper trust. Other than this,
the researcher is responsible for collecting resources so all research tasks can be done and correct
Document Page
results obtained. This is important that the sources should be confidential and reliable for
collecting information and data. Investigator is responsible for carrying out research work
according to the standards and principles that have been developed (Malos, 2015).
CHAPTER 4: DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS
4.1 Data collection
It is related to gathering of data by using different sources. Data collection is defined as
accurate information collection and interpretation by the use of appropriate techniques. Through
this, investigator will look at hypothesis based on the knowledge and data obtained. Different
methods of data collection given below:
Primary method- Researcher collects fresh knowledge and it is authentic in nature. The
key knowledge collecting methods are questionnaires, focus groups, findings etc. A
questionnaire has been used in the present research to gather accurate information on a specific
subject (Offermann and et. al., 2014).
Secondary method- Data and Information were already collected by somebody.
Resources for gathering secondary data are papers, journals, internet sources and others. This is
mainly used to analyze the literature by examining various authors ' views on a particular area
(Sia, Sahoo and Duari, 2015).
