Workplace Diversity
What do you do to assist in the management and
promotion of diversity, in the workplace?
Workplace diversity refers to diversity of people with different characteristics, age, gender,
cultural background, race, religion. In order to develop a thriving workplace, it is important that
there is diversity in the environment as it increases the employee engagement. Diversity in
workplace has proven to drive creativity and innovation among people.
In order to manage the existing workplace diversity, it is important to devise strategies and
policies which are diversity friendly. For example, offering flexibility in work, conducting
recreational activities, leave options etc. It is also important to provide training on diversity in
which topics related to diversity are addressed and discussed. One can also make sure that every
team is comprised of people from diverse backgrounds and mindset. This uniqueness has a great
impact on the workforce and the business, affecting every aspect of the organization (Lambert,
2016).
The foremost important idea of promoting workplace diversity is to hire candidates having
diversified backgrounds. To take care of this aspect, the recruitment team of the organization
should include people from diversified background. This will remove the possibility of any
biasness while hiring of employees and improve the fairness of the recruitment process. Also,
the company should reflect its commitment to diversity and highlight the same on his official
website and career page. The organization can also implement reward system for explicitly
referring those candidate who are from underrepresented groups. An organization having such
distinct people, whether it is a top management or a frontline employee, will bring their
experience and unique perspective to the table and add value to the organization’s business
(Ravazzani, 2016).
