WORKING WITH DIVERSITY AND CONFLICT 2
The Head chef preferring the staff from his own country can be said to be nationalism as
well as discrimination. These professional vices are usually against the Australian anti-
discrimination law which protects citizens from discrimination on the bases of their nationality,
national extraction, social origin and so on (Blackham 2019). Australian laws also cover Equal
Employment Opportunity (EEO) in the workplace which protects the employees against
harassment. This calls for employment of the staff fairly without any form of discrimination
(Weatherspoon 2018). This has been violated by the Head Chef who is recruiting employees in
favor of his country of origin.
Either, it can be seen that there is some degree of inappropriate implementation of the law
which leads to the head chef exercising discrimination. To stop this menace of the Head chef,
government has to fully enforce the anti-discrimination ordinance by employing the necessary
implementation procedures, which includes taking stern measures on the lawbreakers of the kind.
To ensure that the workplace becomes more inclusive, the government has to encourage
diversity. Workplace diversity involves recognizing the value of individual differences and
managing them (Chidiac 2018). The head chef doesn’t recognize this difference, as he is seen to
only favor people from his own country. Discrimination is a menace that should be dealt with,
and government should encourage the EEO policy and diversity to help curb this.
