Introduction
Environment is very important for the society as well as organisation. A thesis about
recycling is to protect the environment from each and every side, it is very important to use
the concept of recycling. In the context of recycling in the workplace, not only company or
organization can save planet, but also can save money. With the help of recycling, the
company can reduce the amount of waste, which is produced in the unit and this means
company can also reduce the cost of waste dealing. Hence the recycling leads to savings of
the company (Whitmarsh, Haggar, & Thomas, 2018, pp. 2-3). But it is all depending on the
company or organisation that how company can reduce the wastage and use the recycling.
The following report describes the importance of recycling in the workplace and how
can a company improve the recycling facilities in the unit. This report is being written to the
manager of the unit to improve the recycling facilities of company.
Importance of Recycling in the Workplace
Recycling is an important function to perform in the workplace and in these days; the
recycling facility of the company is not good. Thus it is very important to improve it. But
before that, it is essential to know about the importance of recycling in the workplace (Waste
Management and Environment, 2012, p. 42). Paper, cardboard, CD, DVD, and food materials
are found in abundance in any office or workplace for doing any work. Instead of wasting all
these products or plastic products, the office should create its own recycling program and
implement it properly (Oke, 2015, pp. 7175-7194). This program should be required to
follow all the employees only then this program will be successful. The benefits of recycling
are:
Recycling Saves Earth
Products recycling can help to protect the environment. For example, paper recycling
can result in the production of paper without cutting more trees. Because everyone knows
how much paper is used in the offices and through this program, offices can contribute to
saving the earth (King, 2014, p. 68).
Recycling saves energy
Cost and energy of recycling the same product are less than creating a new product
from the material. It takes a lot of energy to make a new aluminium product, for example,

thus by re-recycling old aluminium, this can reuse the metal and avoid having to spend huge
energy which helps in protecting the environment (Orr, 2014, pp. 98-100).
Recycling helps reduce global warming and reduce pollution
One of the big advantages of recycling is energy savings. Energy savings result in
reduced emissions of greenhouse or carbon gases, which are very harmful to the atmosphere
if they are emitted, which is a by-product formed by energy production (Recycling, 2011, p.
0023).
Recycling in landfills reduces waste product
Waste that cannot be recycled is usually dumped into landfills. The waste here is left
to decay, rot or decompose and it can take years to completely spoil. More and more wastes
are being sent to landfills and if not recycled instead of being sent to landfills in the future,
landfills may be right behind the homes (Creton, 2017, pp. 797-798).
Recycling helps save money
Recycled items usually cost less. The recycled product can be sold at a very small
amount using old materials and very little energy. Also, selling waste for recycling is a
profitable deal.
Not only these benefits, but recycling also benefited in many ways for the
organization. Usually, society likes to purchase products from that company which works for
society and the environment. When a recycling program is started by the company, a good
image of that company is created in the society and people have good feelings towards that
company and it becomes common for customers to associate with that company, such as
office or take out a press release in the company paper and give information about the
recycling program of any office so that employees of that company become aware of this
program and make the program successful (Gilli, Nicolli, & Farinelli, 2018, p. 294).
On the other hand, when a company implements the recycling program in any unit, it
will reduce the average cost of the unit by this, as well as develop the team spirit within the
office staff. If they are able to run this program for a year even in small ways in the office,
then a very large amount can be saved.

How to improve recycling facilities in the workplace
To develop the business and protect the environment, the company should run a
recycling program in the unit and to make this program successful, the company must take
some initiatives. In today's time, apart from recycling paper, many landfill waste materials
are recycled. In earlier times, people believed that only paper, cans, bottles and other food
items for recycling are found in office premises, but nowadays e-waste is also found in
offices such as computers, mobile phones, Printers and other types of e-waste items (Abbott,
Nandeibam, & O'Shea, 2017, pp. 159-168). The companies that recycle all these e-waste
items will get them and offer them in the market as items that can be reused. To perform this
task in company it is necessary to create a separate department for recycling goods in office
and conduct its audit.
List of Recycled products in unit
Here is a list of some products which can be recycled by the company in the unit:
Light bulb, e-waste, printer drum and cartridges, cardboard, batteries, pizza boxes,
cold drink bottles, cold drink cans, water bottles, CDs, pen drives, computer hard disks,
aluminium cans, newspapers, novels, magazines, carton boxes, USB cables, damaged UPC,
waste USB cables, computer cables etc.
If the employees of the office waste the food items, then the company should stop this
waste. Recycling programs should be started in the office and the organics stream should be
added to these programs, this can see a considerable increase in the diversion rate of office
and the waste rate of an office can go on the low level. It also is very useful and can reach
zero levels. Also, these programs will have the advantage that they can process those waste
foods and if it is processed properly, then they can use it to grow crops and also they can use
that material to make that land can also be nourished where nutrients are deficient. It can also
produce electricity by properly processing this food wastes. Paper towels, soap cases, and
napkins, Scrumptious and Leftover Food Items, Cardboard sleeve from hot drink cup, Coffee
Grind & Tea Bag, Compostable Plate and Cutlery, Spoon made from paper, coffee seeds and
tea leaves are the food items that can be recycled by the company (Winterich, Nenkov, &
Gonzales, 2019, pp. 21-37).
