4.1 Theories of leadership
For the further analysis, various leadership theories are described for the purpose of development
of leadership in the organization. With relevance to this there are two leadership strategies which
are explained for the application in the St-Margaret's for the purpose of leadership. These two
strategies are described below:
Trait theory of leadership: This theory will help in determining the traits or the qualities
that are required to become a leader in the organization. It will help us in determining the
accuracy of the employees in the organization. It will determine the effectiveness of the
leader such as good decision making ability, assertiveness etc. In this context, managers
will apply this theory and identify the traits of the individuals in the Nursing home. For
example they will analyze how the employee will perform in the critical situation.
Relational leadership: this theory will promote change in the organization as well in the
individual. It will encourage the engagement and communication between the patients and
staff. It will focus on the dynamics of the relationships between the staff at the workplace
and experience of handling the patients in the nursing home. In this theory of leadership
the managers will define the relationship of leaders with staff by taking the feedback of the
employees.
4.2 Management of relationship at workplace
It is significant for the organization to manage relationship at workplace among the employees in
the organization. In the health care sectors it is important for the leader to manage the working
relationships between the employees. The most effective way of managing working relationship is by
development of trust between the individuals to carry the work to high standard. In addition to this, the
managers of the St-Margaret's should always respect their workforce and recognize their opinions values
at workplace. They should develop a culture of openness in the nursing home and understand the cultural
backgrounds and the perspectives of the individuals. It has been analyzed that the leaders will develop the
relationship by assigning the task which requires coordination of all team members such as critical
situation of patient, operations, organizing medical camps etc. It has been considered that the leaders will
focus on the leader will focus on the communication among the team members. There must be an
effective communication between the employees and managers in the nursing home. For example various
team meetings are organized by the managers or leaders for the discussion of weaknesses and interaction
with the group members through emails will be effective way of development of working relationship.
With relevance to this, it can be said that the body language, attentiveness, eye contact are efficient ways
to maintain the relationship at workplace.
4.3 Evaluation of own development
The analysis of the study will provide understanding of the strength and weakness of the individual. It has been recognized the development of the individual has been influenced by the leadership theories and management
approaches which are applied. It will provide an analysis of the strengths which are developed after the application of various activities. It will determine the weaknesses and measures which are taken to improve the skills
and effectiveness. There is a requirement of training for the purpose of development of competencies and capabilities to perform the job. In this the individual will highlights its weaknesses and measure its performance
through the self-appraisal. The employee will develop team by the maintaining the relationship with the team members at the workplace. In addition to this, the employee of St-Margaret's will get develop its skills through
self-motivation and perform its role effectively and efficiently at workplace. It has been recognized that the employee will develop the trait which are determined in the leadership theory to become a successful leader and
will mentor the other employees at workplace. Various effective measures must be applied by the individual to attain the set performance standards as compared to the actual performance. It will target the performance of
the other employees and communicate effectively at workplace. This will help in development of trust, mutual understanding and co-ordination to perform group activities effectively and will work for the accomplishment
of the objectives of the organization.
