Recommendation 1: Leaders must drive a culture for change
Parker Smallgoods lacks the committed efforts of staffs in regards to safety measures.
Despite being dealing with machines, workers are not serious about work. The CEO of the
company has identified that it is just the matter of time and the consequence could be worse. In
such circumstances, effective leadership will be the one recommendation. Unless and until
leaders are not traced as following the safety measures and abiding by the rules, their followers
may not feel the necessity for the same. Leaders must show their keenness on safety steps as they
are strongly observed for their workplace behavior. Nevertheless, they are respected and are
given the high regards if they are a disciplined and strict follower of ethical policies.
Additionally, leaders must also entertain the safety related reporting of staffs. They must feel the
value or importance of reporting the safety related facts. It is not that the entire staffing is
unethical and careless with their roles and responsibilities. However, there are a few of staffs
who do not report to leaders the safety related violation due to a fact that leaders won’t entertain
their concerns. Hence, they become ignorant and keep on ignoring such thing. Effective
leadership can only ensure a gain of trust in those few staffs. Such leaders must come up with
some innovative strategies such as introducing the “Suggestion box”. Suggestion box can prove
to be a convenient way of reporting the safety issues as few staffs might not be that expressive
and tend to prevent them from being explored.
Recommendation 2: Recruiting the Safety officers
Officers specifically being trained on the list of safety skills specific to one department
needs to be recruited. It is up to the management that they look for the external resources or
consider promoting the experienced staffs to the identified responsibilities. Promoting the

insiders as a whole may not be a good idea. It is better to recruit the experienced safety officers
from outside of the company because such officers are equipped with the essentials of safety
parameters particular to an industry. Such officers will be able to understand the issues that exist
in the workplace. Moreover, they will also provide a much-needed asset to the company in
regards to implementing the safety policies. The company had struggled to encourage its staffs to
follow the safety measures. Such thing may not be possibly changed with one or few pieces of
training. This rather requires a continuous exposure to a system which is achievable through
effective safety officers.
The idea behind the selection of the safety officers is to provide the organization a much
needed opportunity to implement the safety measures. They will be specifically assigned to
inspecting the safety measures and will be liable for any accident due to the machinery faults and
other casualties. The recommendation will not only streamline the process but, will also
systemize it. Safety officers are specifically being trained on the set of skills which are needed to
implement the safety parameters at the operation sites. They are aware of their job and hence,
know the ways to handle the operation.
Recommendation 3: Defining the safety vision
Safety vision must be defined in order to make the staffs aware of it and most importantly
streamlining the contribution of the recruited safety officers. Safety officers must have the
defined job, so that, they are able to align their work with the defined job responsibilities. The
safety vision must be shared at the organizational level, so that, everybody seems committed to
it. Safety vision must include the participation of leaders and managers. They must drive honest
and open conversations about the safety related thing. Managers must also be able to identify the

best suitable model to implement the safety measures. Both managers and staffs must cooperate
with each other in regards to their responsibilities. Staffs must report the issue to managers and
the managers must acknowledge the same.
The safety vision must comprise of the set targets for future. Every member must comply
with the organizational policies on safety parameters in order to align their duty with the set
targets. As stated earlier, every staff must report any unsafe activity to the respective safety
officer. Safety performance driven by the proposed safety officers and also every single staff
must be measured against the set targets. The performance must be reviewed on a regular basis
and also be provided with genuine feedback, so that, the need for further improvements can be
identified. The process of evaluating the safety works and inception of the regular learning
environment will be the key to reduce the workplace related threats.
