Zero harm
Zero harm is one of the popular concepts of New Zealand that is generally associated
with kind of workplace need to be present in particular organisation. Employer needs to ensure
health and safety of various individual that are working in enterprise so that no potential harm or
threat, risk to life can be caused to them. Therefore, company need to follows all rules and
regulation made by government to avoid chance of injuries within workplace (Lago, Peterand
Bógus, 2017). There are certain advantages and disadvantages of zero harm that can be
illustrated as follows:
Advantages
Helps in increasing performance of employees: It can be stated that Zero harm concept helps
in enhancing productivity level and performance of various individual as they are happy and
satisfied with organisation. Company by taking various measures to minimise associated risk
within workplace is able to motivated employees to make optimum utilisation of resources so
that overall goals can be achieved.
Contributed in building strong brand image: Another advantage of zero harm is that it helps
in building and maintaining strong brand image of enterprise that promote growth and expansion
of business for longer period of time (THE ZERO HARM DEBATE, 2019). Due to strong brand
image and better satisfaction of employees needs by ensuring their safety inspired them to render
qualitative services to end customers thus increase overall sales volume and profitability of firm.
Disadvantages
Increase overall cost: Organisation in order to provide safe and secure working environment to
employees have to incurred additional expense thus it lead to increase cost and decrease
profitability of firm. Company is able to provide specific products at high prices that may lead to
loss of some of the customers thereby impacting revenue of organisation.
It is difficult to minimise risk by zero: Another disadvantages of zero harm concept is that
despite of several steps taken by employer to protect employees from injuries there are certain
case or areas where harm may caused to individual. So, it is too difficult to minimise harm by
zero for providing safe and secure working environment to employees.

Zero harm is realistic and scientifically valid
It can be illustrated that zero harm is just aspiration that it is moral principle of employer
or obligation to ensure health and safety of employees so no scientific evidence is not provided
about the way chance of injuries and incidents can be minimised within firm. At the same time
there is no literature that stated that which method will contribute in effective implementation of
zero harm within firm. There is no inherent process about the way zero harm or ensure safe and
secure working can be used by organisation (ZERO HARM - Philosophical fad or feasible fact,
2019). Therefore it can be stated that zero harm is unrealistic and scientific as there are some
chance of injuries in any workplace so organisation in order to make it realistic have to create an
action plan that consist of realistic and measureable goals. So, manager need to continuously
measure and monitor that employees are provide safe and secure environment in order to take
corrective action within limited time for growth of enterprise and safety of individual that are
working in firm.
