MAIN BODY
Well-being
The concept of well-being is subjective of the person’s mental and physical prosperity.
Many of the researchers have attempted to study the effect on the person’s well-being at the
workplace and in the organisation. To encourage the positive attitude and generating satisfaction
among the individuals the concept of well-being and spirituality at workplace is being
introduced. It is been seen that health at workplace and in the organisation is an issue. A healthy
workforce will be able to contribute more efficiently in the production process and also decrease
the expenses made on the healthcare. Around 60 percent of humans in the world engaged in the
employment and most of them spend significant amount of time of their life in working (Lelliott
and et.al, 2008). So, for the sake of workers it is important that the workforce have optimum
health status.
It helps the companies in maintaining and encouraging the positivity among the employees
and the benefit if which the productivity of the employees increases. Developing nations due to
global advancement replicating the culture of the develop nations which creates an environment
of work which in turn creating effects over the health of the workers. The companies that put
focus on the well-being of their employees will also able to keep and attract the most talented
staffs with themselves at long time (Hodgins and et.al, 2016). Good health is being seen as the
advantage for the workforce and also to the organisations. The benefits of health and well-being

to the workforce include increase in safety at workplace, less stress, job satisfaction and
development of workforce describe by two major players in health i.e. World Health
Organisation (WHO) and International Labour Organisation (ILO).
In Europe it has been seen that at least 1.6 percent of the disease in the countries are due to
unhealthy working conditions. Adverse factors like illness and stress may have impact on the
individual physical condition that in turn effect the performance of the workforce. The well-
being reduces the stress and health issues of the employees at the workplace and with the help of
which they are also able to employees are able to work hard in the tight deadline as well. These
adverse factors include conditions that are arise from the risks and effects in the workplace or
from health practices followed in the organisations. It has been seen that the physical health is
the prominent factor that led an individual to develop well-being. With the continuous changing
environment, the issues related to health is arising increasingly. Human beings wanted to achieve
more in limited time and in order to do so the risk towards health is growing. While, mental
health is a positive state of psychological wellbeing. There are no doubt that healthier and happy
employees always work more and produce high quality products. And the impact of which the
companies are able to attract more and more customers and also, they are able increase their
profitability. It is described as the capacity of an individual to participate and contribute
constructively to bring change in its social and physical environment.
Individual with mental health problem is more prone to develop physical health issues and
the opposite is also possible. The relationship between mental and physical health is complex
and difficult to determine the mental illness and physical issue. Most of the individuals who
suffered from the mental illness or disorder do not seek help of the specialist or healthcare and
sometimes their mental health is also not detected. Although there are effective treatment of the
diseases are available and the extent of recovery depends upon the factors that affect the mental
health of the person. Also mental health disorder can be magnified by the use of alcohol and
illicit drugs. The World Health Organisation (WHO) have conducted research to find out the
number of years of the life lost due to mental and physical illness. The research result in 13% of
the years of healthy life (Lelliott and et.al, 2008).
The report from the Sainsbury centre for mental health provided an estimation of £77 billion

worry and irritation that do not identify the person as mentally ill but these symptoms affects the
personality and ability of the person, on the basis of the virtue of nature, critical condition and
the time period required to fall into the criteria for diagnosis and on the basis of severe mental
illness like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and critical state of depression. It had been realised
that the one of the major factors that led people to face mental health problems is Stigma; being
rejected by the society cause severe negative effect on the mental condition of an individual.
Basically, there are various research have been available on the benefits of the well-being in
the workplace but despite that the employers faces the difficulty in considering the well-being as
their priority. With the change in societal values and environment, health issues are developed in
the young people. The biological attributes due to adolescence in the young people are subject to
change with the time and cultural beliefs. Well-being in the young people differ broadly and are
affected by variety of factors. In western regions of the world health is consider as positive
attribute. It had been identifying that young people have different way of thinking and concerns
about the health. To the current young generation, the knowledge, skills and confidence must be
imparted so that they become capable to make best decisions regarding their health and well-
being. The relationship of health and well-being have multidimensional nature that include
physical, Mental, spiritual and social interconnection (Goble and Bye-Brookes, 2016). The
physical nature adheres to development and functional characteristics of body, while mental
nature adheres to proper functioning of mind by maintaining mental health, further spiritual
nature adheres to an attachment to religion, faith and philosophy and social nature adhere to the
interconnection between a person and social or cultural environment that affects them. It has
been sought out that the stress factor during the adolescence is being reduce by assessing and
helping by the understanding and supportive adults.
The company also able to make their workplace a positive place for their employees by
using the social platforms and fun activities arrangement. For this the companies are having to
maintain and incorporate the work-life balance and provide only 8 hours work to their staffs. The
condition is treated as a category of mental disorder which are related to psychological issues
connected with self-esteem and self-perception of the body image. Also young people are more
addicted to drugs, alcohol and tobacco which harms human body. Young people are seen as the
future workforce of the economies of the world and have right to live safely and healthy life. It
has been observe that they are more exposed to the risk of sexual, criminal, economic

exploitations and abuse. It is necessary to encourage the essence of health and well-being in
young adult so they prosper and positively contribute to the society. To deal with the health and
mental issues the organisation adopting the concept of spirituality. At the workplace spirituality
is defined as a search for some meaning to life or purpose, truthfulness and excellence. In the
recent years the organisations have observed a remarkable change in the culture and climate of
the organisation. Increasing globalisation, structural and technological transformation led to
layoffs and specialisation with division of labour developed an atmosphere where employees
within an organisation feel low self-esteem. For to cope-up with this issue organisations have
adopting spirituality as a cure to develop motivation in the employees. Spirituality is seen as a
factor that help to manage organisational stress and have a positive effect in providing job
satisfaction (Garg, 2017).
If the company are able to adopt this strategy for the staff’s motivation than the benefit it
provided to the employees in the term of increased market share. The companies are able to
attract employees from international market and also able to take competitive advantage in the
local market. Those employees who are able to define meaning in their work have a tendency to
perform with responsibility, with ethical values, generating creativity and collaboration in
achieving the objectives. A sense of collaboration is defined which provide direction in decision
making, solving problems and sharing responsibility. It has been identified that employees as an
individual within the organisation value those workplaces where they feel connection. A
significant part of the life of the employees is spent for the organisation and thus it is the
responsibility of the employer and the management of the organisation to encourage well-being
of the employees. Employees own perspective and thoughts at the workplace result in the well-
being. Organisations that introduce spirituality programmes have observed that it had positive
impact on the level of performance that include growing happiness, Job satisfaction, trust and
commitment (Hughes, 2020). Employees who take initiative to incorporate spirituality in vision,
mission and practices so that true potential of the element to develop well-being can be realised.
As a transformation caring for the well-being of the individual has the capacity to create changes
and improvement in the quality of the life. Factors like diet, exercise, hydration, sleep and
sunlight help in development of well-being. The performance of the organisation is directly
linked with issues such as learning and development, employee involvement and workplace
safety plays a significant role in enhancing and maintaining employee well-being.

spreading knowledge and concept of spirituality in one’s life. The report also concludes the
