Kevin Lynch is a well-known author and urban planner of the United States of America.
The urban planner is known for being one of the early proponents of the activities that pertain to
the mental mapping (Chawla, 2016). Kevin Lynch has been famous for the work that he had
depicted on the various perceptual forms that are the environments in the urban areas (Larice &
Macdonald, 2013). The author is known for his work that helps in theorizing the ways in which
the physical environment influences the temporal processes that are involved in the planning of
the urban areas. The following essay deals with the review of the various works of the American
author and urban planner and attempts to provide the concerned reader with the understanding of
the works that have been put forth by the eminent author.
Kevin Andrew Lynch was the youngest child of an Irish American family and was
brought up in the northern area of the state of Canada. The famous urban planner had been
serving the Army Corps of Engineers in the Philippines area and had thereafter completed his
studies at the MIT and secured himself a degree in City Planning in the year 1947 (Lynch, 2013).
Kevin has been known to serve as an urban planner in the Greensboro region of North Carolina
before being appointed as a respected teacher in the esteemed MIT by Llyod Rodwin (Rodwin et
al., 2013). The urban planner had been awarded grants to conduct a study on the various
perceptions on the numerous urban forms and the urban development. The urban planner is
known to have conducted the concerned researches in the field of the urban development and the
various forms of the same. The researches that were conducted by Kevin Lynch in collaboration
with Gyorgy Kepes were published in the book that was published in the year 1960, The Image
of the City. This book is considered to be a result of the researches undertake by the city planner
while shedding special light on the areas of Boston, the Jersey City and the area of Los Angeles
(Salesses, Schechtner & Hidalgo, 2013). The book majorly deals with the researches on the

Salta and Toluca. The findings of the research that was conducted by the concerned author was
put forth in the book entitled Growing Up in Cities. The book was published in the year 1977
