Introduction
The report is prepared on the title ‘Is college degree worth it’. The key purpose of the
report is to emphasize on the aspect of Community college in United States. A community
college provides senior secondary education based on two years. It is also referred as junior
college. It provides a base for a four-year college degree (Burrows, 2016). The thesis
statement for the report is ‘a degree from a community college is worth the cost’.
Financial assistance
Every community college provides similar classes including ‘English 101’ and
‘Maths’. A standard university charges nearly $400 to $600 for each class. However, a
community college charges around $45 to $250 for each class. It develops a saving of around
$145 per class (Levin, 2019). On specific criteria, various scholarships and financial aids are
also provided for reduction in fees of community college. It enables cost saving by providing
essential knowledge to gain admission in a standard university. The median fee of a
community college results in less availability of borrowed fund. Further, its average fee
eradicates the possibility of financial pressure on the mind of the students. Additionally, the
average cost of community college assists in paying the high tuition cost. Thus, it provides
financial assistance to the students (Ewell, 2011).
Flexibility
It is found that community college offers high amount of flexibility to their students.
Its high flexibility has assisted the students to engage in part time working. About 69% of
students are working are attending college as well as working. Nearly 33% of the students
work for more than 35 hours per week (Levin, 2019). A high strength of students are
fulfilling their parenting duties while as well as attending classes. In order to assist their

students, they mainly offer night and weekend classes. It provides multiple options to carry
out other essential activities. Thus, it clearly states that community colleges offers high
flexibility to their students (Ewell, 2011).
Higher support
Besides providing financial aid and flexibility, it also supports its students via its
working pattern. Its average student strength counts to 25 to 35 (Levin, 2019). Through this
practice, they develop the environment of learning. It directly generates more chances for the
students to interact with their professors and enhance their learning. It is assessed that deeper
engagement with the professors develops more chances of success in future. Due to the
availability of few students per class, a student can seek more help and support from their
professors. Additionally, it offers learning’s from highly qualified professors. Some of these
are also writers and artist. Thus, they often pass their skills to their students (Lundberg,
2014).
Conclusion
The above discussion has successfully met the thesis statement ‘a degree from a
community college is worth the cost’. The report focuses on important aspect of community
college. It is analysed that Community colleges offers financial assistance with their decent
fees. They also provide high degree of support and assistance to their students. Such
assistance is usually given in the form of flexibility. Thus, the above discussion concludes
that a degree from a community college is worth the cost as it provides multiple benefits to
the students.
