Response to question 1:
Advanced would care dressings can be used effectively and worn comfortably around
catheters and joints where synthetic dressings cannot be used. It can be used for infected
wounds.
Synthetic dressings like hydrocolloids work by a different principle that is it creates a
hypoxic environment that causes liquefaction of necrosis tissues and helps in autolytic
debridement. It is best for non-infected wounds.
Response to question 2:
Biatain foam dressing is a very pliable dressing whose outer layer helps to guard
against the infection especially bacterial while its inner layer composed of foam assists in
absorption of fluids during a healing process (Yun et al. 2016).
Biatain foam is used primarily in leg ulcers, non-infected ulcers, pressure ulcers
(Amione et al. 2005), diabetic ulcers of foot, postoperative wounds, second-degree burns and
skin abrasions.
Response to question 3:
Synthetic dressings is of two types - paste bandages and gauze based bandages. They
act by moistening the wound environment and absorbing the exudates. They are antimicrobial
in nature and prevent the colonization of microbes.
At first, new gloves must be put on. Then the unpackaged gauge to be used must be
sterilized in a bowl of saline water. Then, the gauze pads will be applied around the wound.
The wound along with any spaces under the skin should be properly filled by the synthetic
dressing. The wet gauge should be covered with large dressing pad. Rolled gauze or tape can

be used to hold the dressing in its required place. Put all used supplies in the plastic bag.
Hand hygiene should be performed before and after the procedure.
