Different cultures has different way of expression thus coming from a different cultural
group and trying to adapt to whole new set of idea and thought can have its pros and cons in
one’s life. I coming from a Korean background had a very different communication pattern than
the one I am trying to adapt. However, my strengths are the one, that I have many interesting
topics or subjects in my mind that helped me to choose the "Economic success of South Korea".
While writing or feeling expression flows easily through in my native language, but when I have
to transcribe them to English I start facing problem. This may be due to lack of information or
lack of practice with the new language. Having less information or knowledge on one thing can
create a void within oneself, which makes me feel that I am less compatible with my fellow
mates.
However, it must also be noted that being proficient in language skills can make oneself
clear in communication but the content varies with the power of imagination one has. Therefore
while writing I found that I have pool of information stored in my memory which helped me to
make a proper choice of topic. Another strength that I realized while working in the topic was
related to how I prefer to deal with things. I have noticed that I prefer to work on a topic only
when I am very confident in it. This kind of quality in me helps to me understand the topic
completely and also gauge the repercussion it may have on a broader perspective. Therefore, it
becomes quite easier for me to decide on the topic and also thinking about the content it will
cover in the introduction, body and conclusion part of the essay.
With the positive quality regarding the thinking and the writing task, I face many
difficulties when I have to frame my thoughts into words. I have even noticed that I take a lot of
time when I sit and concentrate to frame my first sentence of the essay this is not because I do

not know the stuff but I lack the skill of expressing the stuff. Even though I use English I fail to
make it appealing for the reader because I lack the on the word count and sometime even the
grammar becomes erroneous. Thus, I need to spend a lot of quality in looking for a word and
trying suit it in a proper context. Sometimes I take nearly three hour to bring the ideas into my
paper. Above all these, I feel I lack patience and the concentration power that are needed for
developing my inter-cultural communication skills. It is not that I did not try enough but always I
feel too distracted with my environment. From next time onwards, I think I will choose my place
properly where I can sit and focus uninterruptedly. Just because I decided to sit in the hotel
lounge I got constantly distracted which is why I also took lot of time in completing the
assignment.
The biggest hindrance, which I think is making me behind everybody, is that I cannot
find any progress in my position. Even though I realize the importance of reading book and
giving more time in English, I somehow avoid it by making excuses. However, I have also made
a decision to join English II class and I know for sure my strengths will be more palpable and
surely, I will overcome all my weaknesses. Writing assignments and constantly coming across
my own deficiency gives me a clearer view of my inefficiencies. It is just not the inefficiency but
also my own drawback concerning the inefficiencies. Thus, writing assignments provide me with
the better understanding of my position, which I am sure that it will benefit me in the long-run of
life. Moreover, I also look forward to the professional course that I have decided to take on. I
hope that it will assist me in honing my skills and improving my standards in English.
