2WRITING SKILL DEVELOPMENT
Answer A:
When we attempt write correctly, it is very important to derive the prime purpose of
writing. The second most important thing is the topic of the writing and the target audience it
is written for or to whom the writing aim (Fishman, 2017).
Answer A.1:
We should have a clear idea about idea about the purpose of the writing. When a
person attempts to convey their ideas through their writing, they usually find a wayopen up
their mind and enlighten as well as persuade the readersthrough their literary works.
Most of the college students depends on two objectivesfor the professional approach
of college writing, one of them is to make the audience aware or to persuade the audience.
(Fishman, 2017).
Answer A.2:
We should be aware of the target audience or readers to whom we are conveying our
messages through writing. Sometimes the target audience cannot be categorized and fall
under genera; readers. Sometimes, they can be segregated.
This can be considered as a good opportunity to clarify some misunderstanding or
misconception about the meaning and significance of writing an essay for the students of a
particular class in a college.I am assigned to a limited subject matter essay and the reason
behind this can be attributed to my capability of catching these problems earlier. Often your
college essay may miss two of the most essential elements: Firstly, the discussion in the essay
should be continuous and the discussion should be expressed with the helpof sentences and
paragraph that are linked to each other which aim to introduce and elaborate a particular

subjectand give a conclusion at the end. Unlike a quiz contest, done by you in this section, an
essay does not contain separate answers focusing on separate topics. Secondly, the essay
should be written by you depending on your own writing capability, ideas, vocabulary,
sentence structure, organization of the paragraph structure and so on.
Instead what is done by you is to gather the answers given by other people so that you
are able to support yourself. In this case you can use quotations as an evidence for your own
points, but the quotations should not be allowed to overpower the discussion cited by you.
These factors help a professor to assess the writing abilities of students and help them to
rectify their mistakes, clear their ideas and foster overall improvement of the writing skills.
This is the reason behind naming this course as English 100. In this case your attempt
to cite the sources which you copied can be considered as another important feature. This
indicates that the material is not plagiarized. Again, this is also indicative of the changes
required in your approach to write. If all that said by me is comprehendible to you, then there
is no need to be much anxious about your next attempt to write an essay. Instead, you will
have the opportunity to go through some additional readings or examples of essays provided
in the textbook and attempt to write essay 2. If you have not understood my points, then there
will be strong reasons to find a better way of communicating my teachings to you so that you
are able to learn the art of writing essays. I want to suggest you to find a schedule with a
writing guide or tutor, in the KC success center, so that you can improve your essay writing
ability.
Grade D:
There are various kinds of essays. Some of them are written to influence the audience.
Again, there are some essays which we write to ourselves. Whatever may be the objective or
the target audience, one fact is common for all types of essays-our literary works always

address a particular audience. Hence audience can be considered as the center of focus, in
case of an essay. You may find a lot of people who are opinionated (Fishman, 2017).
Answer A.3:
It is very important for us to know the topic of the essay. In case of an essay,
paragraph or report, a topic may be considered as the core concept, idea or issue or subject.
According to the proficient writers like Mandell and Kirszner, the topic for an essay should
not be broad, it should be narrow, as there is limitation for the usage of pages for an essay
(Poisso, 2018).
Answer B:
According to experts writing can be considered as the process that includes, four
different steps: prewriting, drafting, revising, and editing. The overall process is called –‘
recursive process’. It is possible that, at the time of revising, writers have to come back to the
step of prewriting. This is often done by writers so that their ideas can be developed and
expanded as well (Poisso, 2018).
Answer B.1:
‘Prewriting’ refers to the preparation of a draft before writers start writing. Pre-
writing involves- the act of thinking, reflecting, taking notes, making an outline,
brainstorming, collecting relevant information and so on. Researching in the library,
interviewing people, assessing data can also be considered as the examples of pre-writing. In
short, pre-writing is considered as the first activity people engage in. Hence pre-writing is
very important step to generate ideas before someone starts writing (Poisso, 2018)..

Answer B.2:
The act of putting ideas in to the sentences as well as paragraphs is called ‘Drafting’. Hence,
it can be said that the drafting focuses on the act of explaining as well as supporting the ideas.
Drafting also aims to establish a connection between several ideas. Again, it may also happen
that, the words selected by us, do not require ideas or additional implications. Hence drafts
are writer centered and throw light on what we know or think about a subject of an essay
(Poisso, 2018)..
Answer B.3:
Revision is consider one of the vital step in case of writing procedures. In case of
revision the author follows what is written or elaborated in the draft and alter or chage the
messages accordingly. Hence revision implies looking at the ideas from a perspective which
is fresh as well as critical. Revision is done with the help of reconsidering arguments,
reviewing of the evidences collected, refining the objectives of the writing, reorganizing the
presentation as well as the revival of stale prose. (Poisso, 2018).
Answer B.4:
Proofreading is the important and final step of the editing process, which focuses on
the errors in grammar and punctuation such as misspellings and mistake. We should
proofread only after we have finished all other revisions of editing.
Answer C:
To continue becoming a better writer, it takes a lot of hard work and it’s worth the
effort. Many of the things below will get us on the road to improvement: By learning how to
read, we can become a better writer. In order to read, we have to learn to analyze paragraphs,
structures, sentences, and words. Everyone starts by learning from great writers, by following

them, and then through them, we find our own voice. By reading a lot, as much as possible
and by paying very close attention to the style and our mechanics in addition to content of the
writing. (Poisso, 2018). By writing a lot, daily or multiple times a day. The more we write,
the better we will get by writing stuff for ourselves, writing a blog, writing for college
assignments. Also, the better we will be at communicating with others. Writing is best done
in a quiet place, or with some background mellow music playing. It doesn’t work well when
we are multi-tasking or with background noise. By switching off all the electronic devices
due to disturbance and distractions, we can continue to become better at writing. By using a
thesaurus, learning new words daily, looking up words we don't know, developing practical
vocabulary, keeping a journal for developing writing style, improving vocabulary, doing
word puzzles, editing our own writing, moving from comprehensive to expressive
vocabulary, asking for feedback from a teacher or a friend. We will continue becoming better
writers. The key parts of our writing are the beginning and the end of writing. Especially the
beginning, if we don't get the reader hooked in on the beginning, they won’t read the rest of
our writing. After the first draft, it’s better to spend some extra time in the beginning. By
getting them interested and wanting to know more of what is written further. A good ending
should be well written that will leave the readers wanting more and more of their writing.
(Poisso, 2018).
