Yoga can be defined as the most systematic way to unite one’s soul with the supreme power, the
almighty and channelize every ounce of an individual’s energy towards achieving something
good or positive. Yoga is no merely a system of believes but incorporates the need to influence
one’s body and mind and achieve a mutual harmony to help one’s body realize its actual
potentials. Yoga is an art as well as a science because it involves implementing practical methods
to bring the brain and body coordination which needs to be identified and appreciated by the
soul.
Going by the ten fundamental principles of Yoga as stated by Georg Feuerstein: Yoga is
undoubtedly a complex as well as a very wide subject which has a history dating to 5000, years
or more (Singleton, 2013). According to him Yoga is a liberation teaching process which helps
individuals attain the ultimate level of peace in his/her life. That is the reason that this practice is
also known as moksha-shâstra. There are varied levels involved like the Râja-Yoga is the
“Royal Yoga” specifically meant for people who have high level of concentration followed by
Hatha-Yoga or the “Forceful Yoga”, then Karma-Yoga, Bhakti-Yoga and many more (Tamir,
2014). However the very foundation of each branch of yoga is to maintain a life of high moral
values guided by law and order. Yoga involves two major commitments which are: abhyâsa and
vairâgya. Abhyâsa means the motivation to indulge in everyday practice of the exercises while
vairâgya aims at the willpower to let go of old attachments and behavior patterns (Hittleman,
2013).
Thus, according to Georg Feuerstein, Yoga is a gradual process of converting oneself into
a positive source of energy transmission and radiation to make one’s life as well as the
surrounding of an individual spiritually and morally uplifting and positive.
