Introduction
In the present scenario, innovation plays a crucial role because it develops a niche in the market.
In addition to that, innovation gives rise to creative thinking among members of management so
that they can produce innovative goods and services in the market. Innovation is considered as
solutions to meet the requirements of customers. In order to innovate new products and service
members of management need to gather quality raw materials. Innovations assist business firms
in improving quality of present products and services so that their competitive position can be
fathomed. The study aims at analysing the importance of innovation within business
environment of YOYO Drinks. Furthermore, to project roles of innovation within business
environment YoYo drinks has been selected.
Further, in the study, the difference between innovation and invention will be projected so that
deeper insights can be gained. Additionally, the importance of innovation within business firm
will also be highlighted in the study. Further, steps of innovation are focused along with their
approaches. In the final stage, application of New Product Development will be highlighted
along with the concept of frugal innovation.
Company overview
YoYO drinks has been launched in the UK market in the year 2016. Additionally, profit margin
of the business firm has moved in upward direction because of quality products. Initially, the
marketing department of the firm produced one product. Therefore, in the fourth year earning of
the venture has witnessed a deficit. However, higher officials of YOYO drinks have decided to
launch organic Energy drink among their targeted customers in order to overcome profit deficit.

1. Explanation of the innovation and how it is different from invention.
As asserted by Holmström (2018), innovation is a process that includes activities so that new
products and services can be launched in the market. It also helps to improve the quality of
existing products and services so that customer’s base can be strengthened. As opined by (),
innovation creates opportunities for business firm so that they can withstand market competition.
For instance, management of YoYo drink has decided to launch organic energy drink so that
their targeted customers can live a healthy life. Thus, it is evident that the newly launched
products must fulfil the needs of customers. After launching new products in the market,

and challenges. The difference between innovation and invention has been mentioned below:
Unlike invention, in innovation new features can be implemented within the existing products so

invention only new services and products can be launched within market. Additionally, through
invention unique products are created so that new customers can be attracted towards the
business firm. However, in innovation new ideas are applied on existing products and services.
In invention, original ideas are infused with theories. On the other hand, in innovation new ideas
are implemented practically. As asserted by Ian (2015), through invention only one product can
be launched within market. However, innovation can bring changes within multiple products. At
the time of inventing new products only members of R&D are involved. However, in case of
innovation, all the members of business venture are involved.

They initially launched a single product, which gave them many financial benefits. This is
because the product they launched had appeal in mass market. Yoyo has found out basic
requirement of people and their expectation from a drink. They have removed unnecessary
features from the drink. This made their drink good but the price became less. They found out
that people do not like artificial flavours in their drink. Most companies were using flavours,
which were not natural. This gave them a chance to include natural flavours and they added
fruits inside their drinks. They found good suppliers of fruits such as mango, apple, oranges,
which bridged their gap in supply chain. Many raw materials were previously unused and they
used these materials to make their products. This decreased their operational cost at huge level
and as a result, their product price became lower.
Frugal innovation can benefit the company in major way. In a country where there is lacklustre
growth, it will be vital for reducing debts. Demands of frugal innovation will be high in
developed countries. Yoyo drink can deal with many environmental constraints. Lack of natural

materials, which were wasted previously, can be used by this method and Yoyo drink will not

This type of innovation will give them an opportunity to eliminate characteristics of their drinks,

customers regarding their choice in drinks. They will be able to offer something extra, which
other companies are not giving. Therefore, their market share can increase from this and business
