INTRODUCTION
Management and operations refers to the area of management in every organisation management
and operations helps in increasing performance and growth of company. on other hand it is
process based on transformation of diverse essential input such as; raw material into finished
goods and services. This process increasing the productivity and profitability of organisation.
The management and operations helps in increasing performance and provide better services to
customers and meet their expectations and needs. The below report is based on Zara, this is
Spanish retailing company founded in 1975, based in Spain (Ehrlich, J., 2015). They have
different outlets in different countries. In worldwide company have loyal customers and they
provide their services and products on digitally also. Company have own application where
customers can place order and they get product on door steps. company use various technologies
to upgrade their services and reach out maximum customers from different locations. The below
report include the roles of leaders and functions of managers in various situations, apply theories
and model of approaches, key approaches of operations management, importance and values that
helps in achieving objectives and factor in business environment that affect the operation
management.

In every organisation there is different situations where leaders and managers of a
company they manage according to their roles. They observe and control the situation that helps
in proper utilization of resources in organisation. In below points there are various situation
describe in Zara context.
Development of new product: It refers to making new product or innovation in existing product
in organisation. New product required effective strategies to reach out maximum customers and
increase productivity (Kurtzman, J., 2009). In Zara context, company can add sports category in
every stores. They has maximum numbers to loyal customers in market if they come up with

new product customers attract towards them but they need strong strategies to provide better
services and product quality. In this situation leaders and managers play different role according
to their profile.
Role of leader: In this condition leader play huge role in managing the staff and
employees and provide knowledge to them about new sports category, product features ,
process and etc. it helps in providing better services and explaining them about product.
Leaders also provide training to employees for better performance and increasing
productivity.
Function of manager: In this situation managers use different functions such as
planning, organizing, controlling and handle situations. In Zara context , company can
make effective strategies according to new product and they also observe market current
trends. The production process is controlling by mangers in effective manner to achieve
success.
Disaster management: In this situation organisation perform and manage all actions and make
changes in current management system in firm. In this condition managements required some
modification in strategies, tools, techniques and so on. Leaders and managers perform various
roles and functions according to this situation (Nayak, R., Nguyen, L.T., Panwar, T., Ulhaq, I.
and George, M., 2020).
Role of leader: In this situation leaders provide training to employees for improvement
and guide them in right direction to handle every situation in company.
Function of manager: In this condition they making effective planning and strategies to
handle situation in company and adopt new tools and techniques.

leadership and contingency.
The condition of very organisation modify on regular basis. In different conditions
leaders select various leadership style according to industry situation. Theories are described in
Zara context.
Situational leadership: In this style, leaders in Zara company they motivate their team members
to enhance company’s performance. Leaders modify leadership style according to situation in
company. They take decisions and use their skills according conditions. This leadership style
helps in growth of organisation.
System leadership: In this style, leaders use their abilities and talents to improve performance of
team members within company. In Zara context, they use their skills according to market trends

Contingency: This model refers to the leaders play leadership job in effective manner, whether
leadership quality equivalent the condition or not. In leadership style , they handle situation to
use various skills and talent. In Zara context, they manage every situation and achieve goals and
objectives and also fulfil company’s needs (Xuejie, C., Chang, Q. and GuangHao, Z., 2019).
Transformational leadership: This style in Zara context, they build strong relationship with
each employees and motivate them to achieve goals. Company always connected with them so
employees can feel they are part of company and solve their every query related to work.

leader lead the team or its members in right direction to achieve their targets. They helps in
improvement in performance of employees, it helps in increasing efficiency or work. Managers
in manage all the task with proper planning in organisation and helps them regarding process and
methods. There are various roles of leaders and managers are as follow as;

They develop objectives and goals in organisation.
Leaders are leading the whole team in right direction and
stand with them.
Managers provide instructions and advice to employees.
Their main focus on employees and their performance

company.
They communicate with employees. They communicate with leaders.
Leaders provide training to employees and encourage
them.
Managers make plans and implement them.
There are various approaches that are measured in operations management such as; six-sigma,
total quality management, continuous improvement process and just in time inventory. Six-sigma: In this approach organization define, observe, measure and confirm all the
essentials so that development is done in company and if they wants to make some
changes so they can change through this process. There are five factors which

organization focus on such as; analyze the organization objectives and goals, measure the
performance, observe the issues, record them and improve them. In Zara context, they
use six-sigma to enhance the customers experience (Su, S. and Baird, K., 2018).
Total quality management: This approach refers to the provide growth in company by
improving experience of customers. In this there are various factors which followed in
this process such as; focus on process, customers, communication skills, thought process ,
employees involvement, effective decision making and etc. In Zara context, they follow
market trends like fashionable clothes , shoes, accessories and perfumes. They meet
customers expectations.
Just in time inventory: This refers to the planning of strategies that use in work
efficiency. In Zara context they kept very limited stock according to trends and sessions
whenever they requires they order it another time . This helps in managing work in easy
manner.
Continuous improvement process: This refers that company improve their product and
services quality on regular basis ,this helps in increasing growth day by day.

Operation management is must for every organisation and it adds important values.the
importance and values observed below;
Productivity of employees: Operations management helps in increasing productivity of
employees. Company observe their performance and guide them accordingly, so they can
perform in better manner (Reid, R.D. and Sanders, N.R., 2019).
Increase goodwill: operations management helps in increasing goodwill or company.
Company create good brand image in market to build relationship with customers.
Objectives achievement: Operations management helps in achieve objectives of
organization and it is increasing the productivity.
Utilization of resources: In management of operations, managers use resources where
they needed they don’t waste resources and use in proper manner.
Motivation of employees: In every organization motivation is must for growth and
performance of company. Operations management helps in encourage the employees, so
they achieve goals.

making by leaders and managers.
The internal and external both the factors affect the organisation. Internal environment
refers that, they focus on within organisation such as analysing and controlling the work and
performance. It included that human resource management, employees, tools and techniques and
technologies. It consider various factors which provide experience to customers. External
environment refers to factors which provide better experience to customers (Ren, S., Chan, H.L.
and Siqin, T., 2020). It also provide great opportunity such as development in leadership growth
and on the other hand there is risk involved in technologies. In Zara context, there are different
factors that affect the company in terms or growth and profitability. Due to environmental factor
the decisions making also affected , it includes the competition in market, economic conditions,
social factor, change in technologies. In social factor , people divide according to age groups,
occupation, caste, gender and etc. The business environment also affect the training of
employees in organisation. In economic factor, most of customers could not afford the Zara
product because of high priced products so it affect the company sales. Competition in market in
increasing day by day bas Zara set their standard already and they provide best quality products
and services , it helps in attracting customers toward brand.

It is concluded that management and operations is necessary part of organisation. It helps
in better performance and effectiveness in work. In every company managers and leaders play
huge role in growth and increasing profitability. Adopt various theories and models company can
achieve success and motivate to employees. Company use different key approaches such as total
quality, six sigma, inventory, improvement process, these all approaches helps in manage work
in effective manner and improve their productions. In firm there are various values and
importance of operation management to achieving objectives such as; increase brand image,
motivate to employees and guide them in right direction, use resources in proper manner, achieve
target goals and employees productivity. Internal and external environment impact on operations
management are in both aspect negative as well as positive, these two environmental factors
provide different opportunities such as enhance leadership quality and risk involved in adopting
new technologies.
