1INTERFACE DESIGN ASSIGNMENT
Link to the site: www.zillow.com
For the evaluation we have selected the zillow.com web site. The website is related to
the rea, estate business and act as the platform to connect the property owners and the buyers. On
the different pages of this site are evidently using the menu controls as well as fill in Forms for
the users so that they can interact more with the pages and its content. Example of such controls
are used on the pages like mortgage-calculator page
(www.zillow.com/mortgage-rates/#purpose=Refinance) it asks the visitor to use the form to
provide, zip code, Property Rate, current value etc.
The menu selection options also helps in the simple error handling on the applications
made by the user and provides informative feedback to the user. In this way the users are able to
reverse their course of action or interaction on the site to properly use the different functionalities
on the site. The use of the menu selection on the web application makes the users on this site to
use lesser key strokes to accomplish a task.
As the Direct manipulation technique makes the interaction press more tedious and is not
suitable for all types of users (such as visually impaired users visiting the site). In addition to
that, the visual representations used for the direct manipulation by the users are often misleading.
As the form fill in helps in simplification of the data entry on the web pages, requires modest
training or knowledge of the users to interact with the web application.
