Academic writing is one of the essential element in terms of university academics. There
are various assignments through which the writing skill of students can be increased. In this
report, there are various tools through which academic writing skills can be known which will
help the student to understand about it.
TASK 1
There are various academic tools through which writing the assignment can be easy for
the student. Following is the explanation of each tool to the students:
1. Plagiarism: It is the process of taking someone else' work and pretending to show of its own.
It is an offense in the academic writing skills which should not be followed by them (Alismail,
2015). While doing assignment I identify that a project can be plagiarized while copying the
words, ideas and perception which can be steal by other student. Thus I analyzed that, there are
various steps of stopping such steps such as intellectual property which helps the writer to
protect its thinking and ideas to be stolen by others. Apart from that, there are various tools also
which provide the evidence of plagiarism by checking the words. I learn that these tools can
provide the percentage of plagiarism in the written academic report. The students should keep
out of this act which is punishable and offended.
2. Grammar: It is known as the structure, syntax, morphology, phonology and semantics of the
language used in the writing of academic files. In academic writing, the language used is
English through which different types of syntax and structures requires be learned by me to get a
good performance in the report and file. By analysing this I can see syntax and structures
includes the use of narration, direct sentence and indirect sentence, conjunction, models,
connectives and different aspects also though which the use of grammar can be improved by me
in proper manner. Incorrect use of grammar does not allow by my tutor to give a good feedback
over the file and report. Therefore, I learn that I needs to always keep in mind about the syntax
and structures of grammar so that they cab increase their chances of success within academics
(Cherkesova and et. al., 2016).
3. Punctuation: This is known as the marks such as full stop, comma, brackets which are used in
the writing of a language so as to make its meaningful and worth for clarifying the meaning.

These types of punctuation allow me to frame a meaningful sentence. A sentence without
3
punctuation cannot show the end, start and pause of it. In order to carry out a appropriate
research I must consider that English language is quite often to use such type of marks so as to
get the meaningful use of sentence. For example, “the women, without her man, is nothing.” in
this sentence, the use of comma shows about the punctuations used within it.
4. Complexity writing: It is known as the feature of writing in the academics of report and file.
While participating in presentation I identify that in terms of spoken, the language, tense, idioms
and phrases does not matter but in case of writing the report and file, I analyse that I needs to
consider various aspects such as grammar, spelling, paragraphs etc. These aspects make the
writing skills complex (Cropley, 2016). Therefore I always needs to try to capture the good
writing skills which make my file and report more suitable for the academic reports.
5. Formality writing: To successfully complete a assignment I needs to identify the feature of
writing in academic style that does not include any of the features such as:
a. colloquial words and expressions; ""stuff", "a lot of", "thing", "sort of",
b. abbreviated forms: "can't", "doesn't", "shouldn't"
c. two word verbs: "put off", "bring up"
d. sub-headings, numbering and bullet-points in formal essays - but use them in reports.
e. asking questions.
All of the above aspects needs to be avoided by me so as to gain good marks in the report
and file.
6. Academic writing skills: There are various skills which I requires to acquire at the time of
writing in academics which are as follows: Time management: It is known as the most valuable asset in writer and student's life. The
time for the project should be kept in the mind by the students. Being the student, I
should complete the project within the specified time which can help me in maintaining
the relevancy and robustness of the report. Research: The arguments written within the report should be researched and well
supported with the facts and figures. This will provide an evidenced based argument for
the report and file (Estrada and et. al., 2016). While writing report, I should research it
properly.
Organization: The organizational details should be clearly specified within the file and
report. This will provide a strong relevance to the arguments with the organization.

Relevancy to the organization provides strong evidence to the statements of the report.
While writing report, I should clearly mentioned organisation which I am using it.
7. Academic style: The academic style of writing has many features. I am very enthusiastic on
developing my research skills thus I concentrated towards academic writing which is always
logical and formal as compared to the journalistic writing or fictional writing. This needs and
evidenced based writing which can provide the logic to the statement. While doing work on it I
analyse that, the tone of the written paper should be fair and narrative tone which will help the
reader to be ethical with the paper. The diction of the paper should have the same denotation
which have different connotations. Therefore, I requires to concrete towards the words that
should be used within the paper so that evidence can be presented against it.
8. Harvard Style: This is known as the style of referencing the paper will consider. This type of
referencing style contains partial citation within it such as (Smith, 2010, p.1). While I writing
paper, I used either within or after a sentence. Parenthetical referencing can be used in lieu of
footnote citations. As it consists of mainly about the last name of author and the year of
publication in which paper is published while using such style. When I doing using such style, I
make list of references and sorted according to the alphabets order. Apart from that, I used 1.5
margin from the left so that the name of writer can be mentioned correctly.
9. Academic keywords: These are the keywords which are used within the academic writing I
the paper. These keywords was developed by Magali Paquot while leading a research paper.
There are 930 academic keyword list though which the writer can use any of them to decorate its
paper (Harding, 2016). When I was writing academic I uses keywords to make my paper more
unique, attractive for users. As it helps in providing good sense of understanding to the reader
therefore use of such keywords allow me to write paper more effectively and efficiently. There
are 355 nouns, 233 verbs, 180 adjectives, 87 adverbs and 75 other keywords used within the
academic keyword list. Such keywords are used by me as per the demand of researcher. This can
help me to make my work more productive in nature.
10. Critical thinking: It is one of the important aspect of an academic writing. While writing
paper, I use this in order to understand the concept which is right and updated with the time. This
requires a critical thinking of the aspect on which the students are trying to understand the
concept. By using of critical thinking, I can easily provide both the negative and positive aspect
of an argument. Therefore, whenever critical aspect is written I never put personal point of view

report. In the introduction part, there are mainly three aspects. Firstly, I should have knowledge
about topic on which the report is going to be written. After that, I should provide the
information of the organization taken in the report (Siemens, 2015). The information of the
organization should be provided briefly in around one to two lines. After that, the tasks which are
going to be written in the report are considered. The writer should provide the information of the
questions which are going to be answered.
