THEME – “The influence of technology in the travel and tourism sector”.
INTRODUCTION
Travel and tourism sector has become biggest civilian industry in all over the world. It
provides the travelling facilities to people with better accommodation facilities. This sector has
to be emerged as one of the main key drivers of development between service sector. It is a main
source to generate employment and enhance living standard of people (Benckendorff, Sheldon
and Fesenmaier, 2014). This present research report is based on TUI Group and it owns hotels,
retail stores, airlines, travel agencies etc. There will be discussion about the influence of
technology in travel and tourism sector. In travel and tourism, technology helps in fast
reservation, advance hotel bookings etc.
TASK 1
1.1 Formulate and record possible research project outline specifications
A research project specification helps to frame as well as craft the better study to draw
positive outcomes. This research work is based on particular issues which are necessary to
address with the help of conducting proper investigation. Under this activity, investigation is
based on predetermined objectives and aims which are designed in beginning of project
(Bilgihan and et. al., 2016). Research project outline specification consists some of the necessary
considerations such as methodology, aims and objectives, rationale etc.
This present research is based on the influence of technology in the travel and tourism
sector. In this sector, technology plays a necessary role and it is helpful in providing better
facilities to visitors. TUI Group is large size organisation and it uses the technology in its
business. From this, it can communicate with people, target new market, advance booking of
rooms and many others. Technology is helpful in reducing costs, improve services, increase
operational deficiency and also provide better experience to consumers. In context to travel and
tourism sector, businesses and consumers both can benefited from advanced reservation,improve
communication, guest service systems etc. Technology has helped the tourism sector to replace
expensive human labour with the technological labour. It is helpful in minimize the labour cost
as well as neglect issues related to consumer service (Buhalis and Schertler, 2012).

Rationale of Research
This research taken in to consideration on influence of technology on consumer decision
making in Travel and Tourism Sector. The main reason behind conducting this investigation is to
know about the technology as well as its effectiveness in the business of travel and tourism. It
will be helpful in proper understanding and getting deep knowledge to an individual in an
effective manner. In will help in future to conduct any investigation in a better manner (Chen,
Shang and Li, 2014).
Research Aim
The aim of this research is “To determine an influence of technology on consumer
decision making in Travel and Tourism Sector.” A study on TUI Group.
Objectives of Research
To identify role of technology in travel and tourism sector.
To analyse impact of technology in business of TUI Group.
To determine relationship among technology and consumer decision making in Travel
and Tourism Industry.

1.2 Factors that contribute to the process of research project selection
Investigation can represented as systematic exploration regarding the particular area of
study as well as source in context to execute various facts for reach at the final outcomes (Cohen,
Prayag and Moital, 2014). Under this, research is based on some of the specified elements that
leads work towards the right direction by managing all research related activities in an effective
manner. Research project has specified area which are mention below:
Introduction- It is basic for an investigation as it portrays fundamental motivation behind
work. This area includes aims and objectives which needs to be achieved in research work. This
section of research provides an overview of particular research area in a detailed manner.

devoted to processing acting, extracting of the materials and developing tools. Technology is
helpful in performing tasks as well as activities in minimum period of time. Travel and tourism
sector is one of main contributor to economy of developing as well as developed countries with
rich culture. Under this, technology has played an essential role in attaining economic
development through garnering economic means for customers to travel purpose. Through using
technology, people can plan their trips in convenient manner. They can research for destinations,
purchase travelling packages on reasonable cost, advance booking of hotel etc. in context to

ability, maximise organisational revenue and many others. In addition to this, there are different
technologies which can be used in travel and tourism sector and these are Augmented and
Virtual Reality (AR and VR), Internet of Things (IoT), Voice Technology, Artificial Intelligence
and many others. Some roles of technology in travel and tourism sector mention below as
above:
Bookings- In travel and tourism sector, technology provides an option to consumers
about booking tickets in advance. From this, at the time of travelling, customers can not face any
kind of issue and can travel anywhere in an easy manner.
Travel updates- Now with the help of use technology, visitors can check status of their
flights, trains, buses view mobile applications and websites. In context to this, many airline
provides the updated information about flight through automated calls or text.
Impact of technology in business of TUI Group
In this present time period, technology in travel and tourism sector deliver and control
swiftness to attain ambition of business. As per opinion of Belokon, (2019) it has been stated that
technology delivers better solution in order to meet with needs of consumers. From this,
relationship among firms and consumers will be strong and they will retain for long period of
time. TUI Group uses the Artificial Intelligence technology in its business to make innovation in
tourism. In this, TravelBots, Robots and CharBots are three different ways through which
Artificial Intelligence can help this indutry. TUI company use its website to communicate with
large number of people, attract them towards firm, provide information about services or
travelling packages etc. Innovation as well as Digitalisation both are the main key components of
roadmap of TUI Group for the future development. The main aim of this company is to enhance
holiday experience of consumer to new level by using technology in its business. TUI has
developed many technological innovation for its cruise ships that attracts or inspire guests and
also invite them in order to interact with the technology. It is helpful for TUI company to
minimize cost of airlines and also closer to consumers.
On the basis of opinion of Ukpabi and Karjaluoto (2017) it has been stated that Internet
has impacted on TUI Group business in which it perform its activities and operations. In addition
to this, development of the vertical portals redefined travel business. It has led to formation of
different last minute online travelling portals which organise as well as distribute tourism
