Self-managed learning – This is a method which is used by individuals for managing
their own learning. In addition, it is a process that helps the individuals in learning several things
along with support them in earning a unique experience that will beneficial for growth of their
personal career. This kind of learning is not limited to classes or seminars whereas, it encourages
the individuals to go beyond their boundaries and learn anything whichever they want. There are
some approaches of self-managed learning which are given as below:
Learning through research- In it, individuals can get knowledge about different things
through research work, scholar papers, market trends etc. Through using this method of learning,
critical thinking or decision-making skills of employees will be improve which will be beneficial
for Travelodge in solving complex situations effectively (Zepeda, 2013).
Learning from others- In it, Individuals gets knowledge about different sources that are
described as below:
Mentoring/Coaching- Mentoring is a semi-structured guidance in which one experienced
person guide less experienced individual through sharing their knowledge, skills or experience. All
important informations should be provided by the mentors to employees who are less experienced
or new in the organisation so that better efforts can be taken from them in achieving desired goals.
This method will prove beneficial for the current workforce of the Travelodge as they will acquire
new skills and efficiencies that will automatically leads the firm towards growth and success.
Conferences- It is also an effective method of learning in which individuals can grab
knowledge by engaging themselves in conferences and seminars. It also helps the individuals in
building their confidence so that they can communicate their issues or problems with their seniors
without hesitation. With the help of this method, employees will be perform their duties in well
manner which will automatically supports the organisation in achieving their preset goals and
objectives.
From the above learning methods, It has been analysed that Me as an assistant manager of
Travelodge have to use conferences and Mentoring methods as it will prove most appropriate for
my employees and teammates in increasing their understanding regarding their roles,
responsibilities and working structure. By using these methods, queries and issues of employees
will be resolved which automatically leads our organisation towards growth and success in market
(Evering, Visser and Barrett, 2012).
Lifelong learning- It is an ongoing learning which is important for employees in order to
improving their skills and strength so as to developing their personal and professional career.
Using of this can be prove beneficial for Travelodge as it not only supports them in increasing
confidence level of working staff but also, it build morale and confidence level of employees
which will be beneficial for taking growth and success in marketplace.
Self Directed Learning- In it, individuals take initiatives by taking or without taking support of
others for occurrence of events. In addition, it is a way which guides the individuals in selecting,
assessing or managing their own learning activities. For e.g. employees who are capable and
efficient will provide more support in achieving desired goals and objectives of firm
Continuing Professional Development- This process is used by individuals for
documenting and tracking skills or experience that are gained formally or informally by them
through work or beyond training. In other words, it is a process of managing own development
through ongoing basis.
Lifelong learning is beneficial as it supports the individuals in improving their personal
and professional skills. It also encourages the individuals to make improvements in their personal
skills on continuous basis so that desired goals and objectives can be achieved by them easily
(Beach, 2014). There are several ways that can be used by managers of Travelodge for
encouraging lifelong learning in their workplace, these ways are defined as below:
Higher education – This method of lifelong learning also helps the individuals in taking
effective decisions. Education is never ending process which helps the individuals in improving
their skills and efficiencies that can be used by them for achieving future goals and objectives.
Hence, it can be said that this method can prove beneficial for employees of Travelodge in
learning new things for surviving in competitive area.
Apprenticeships- It can be defined as a type of on-job training in which individuals
improves skills and efficiencies for their job role. It can also considered a part of lifelong learning
that can be used by managers of Travelodge for improving their personal and professional skills at
workplace.
By taking support of all above lifelong learning programmes, Me as an assistant manager
of Travelodge will be able in making effective workers with full of skills and efficiencies at
workplace which automatically leads the organisation towards growth and competitive edge in
market. I have identified that employees who are engaged in learning programmes provide
effective support in achievement of goals due to which I have encouraged my employees to
engage themselves in lifelong learning programmes as through it, their effective contribution will
be received by me which will beneficial for achieving goals and objectives of organisation.
