Annotated Bibliography on 3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing

This annotated bibliography includes two references that discuss the development trends in 3D printing and additive manufacturing. The first reference explores the use of 3D printing in medical and health domains, while the second reference discusses the use of 3D printing in the aerospace industry. Both references provide recommendations for the future use of 3D printing technology.

Annotation: The article was issued in the year 2015. The study is done on the Fabricated
Data Reflection on 3D Printed Digital Body related to the Medical and Health domains in
which Deborah Lupton in his article identified the new ways of representing 3D printing in
the medical practice and health and illness of the body. The author tried to address the use of
3D printing technology in converting the data collected digitally of the human bodies and
then fabricated in the tangible form to touch and held. The author has indicated that the 3D
printing Medical applications are developing rapidly for health and medical related purposes.
The author has included in his studying about the 3D fabricated bodies for medicine, namely
organic and non-organic. The organic material known as the bio-printing mimics the tissue of
the human body through biomaterial. The author in the study had focused on the creation of
non-organic fabricated body parts. With the use of digital data, the human bodies have been
represented for health-related and medical purposes. Thus, 3D printing fabrication represent
numerous abstract features of human bodies.
Recommendation: From the study done on the research paper it has found that within the
upcoming five years there will be high-speed automated manufacturing systems available in
large-quantity that will be an added advantage in taking decisions for 3-D printing for the
health and medical related purposes. The author has also found that the 3D printing artefacts
will track the individual’s heart beat rate through a wearable digital device.

Annotation: This article was issued in the year 2015. This is a research paper that discuss
about the development trends in the 3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing. The author
Bingheng Lu, Dichen Li and Xiaoyong Tian had found that in the last 30 years there was a
rapid development in the 3D printing technology and the Additive manufacturing. Most of
the business and academic community started to gain interest in manufacturing technology of
3D printing. The author has conducted a research in which it was found in some of the
industries use 3D printing. One such industry that the author had discussed is the aerospace
industry were 3D printing is used that fabricate the model of the architectural design. The
author had done numerous study in the five “any”s of 3D printing. The equipment that are
included were metal, plastic, wood, ceramic, electric fibre, edible material, grapheme and
magnetic materials.
Recommendation: The author found that, 3D printing is more suitable for trial-manufacture
prototyping of a single-piece and to manufacture a complex part which seems to be
impossible or difficult with the manufacturing process that are more traditional. The author
has also recommended that comparing between different technologies of manufacturing is not
possible for the current design, as this design are based the subtractive manufacturing and
equivalent manufacturing technologies. Moreover, redesigning the 3D technology result in
innovative equipment and products.
