Introduction
According to studies, programs define how processes take place, how technology is
implemented, the way infrastructures are developed, and how people implement various
programs to meet their visions and missions.1 Majorly, these programs are broad in scope and
mainly conducted in parallel with continuing operations. Studies show that there are mostly three
major programs, complex, transformational, and large scale. However, in this paper, I will
examine two major programs; Construction and Engineering. I find there two programs quite
exciting; thus, I intend to pursue them in college. Recent research shows that these two programs
are very significant in today's world. An individual with knowledge of any of the two programs
can be of much benefit to the community
Engineering program
Engineering is an essential program in the day to day world. It is evident that various
activities in the world involve engineering. For instance, road construction, industrial machine,
automobile manufacturing, and many other operations are all about engineering. It is evident that
engineering has shaped the world to be a better place. Engineering is a vast program, thus entails
a variety of fields. For instance, it involves chemical engineering, mechanical, textile,
agricultural, civil, and structural. The fields are essential in the current world of development and
technology. However, more skills and expertise are critical in any engineering career to solve
various problems in the world. Thus, engineering is one my impressive career since childhood to
adulthood. Many reasons made me have a passion for engineering.
I find the job of engineers to be very creative. Engineering is a profession where a person or
an engineer applies the knowledge of mathematics and science which is achieved through

studying. Thus, the engineers have the expertise of using the available raw material and come up
with an immediate product which is useful to humankind. Moreover, they apply their creativity
to solve complex problems which are very critical in industries and other enterprises. Various
engineering task involves problem-solving; thus, it is good to be quite creative to provide the
best solution.
According to studies, engineering has a good salary.2 An individual with a good
engineering program earns a good salary compared to other programs. Also, a good salary is
accompanied by person job security. Engineering jobs are not affected by the county's economic
conditions or job political unrest. Therefore, an engineer has the privilege of employment
opportunities depending on the area of specialization. Thus, I find an engineering program to be
very useful, especially in the current world of technology.
In the modern world, an engineering program has a higher demand in the market. There
are many kinds of industries, and most of them require engineers. For instance, in the automobile
industry, there are a lot of machines which perform complex activities; thus, for this machine to
run effectively, they require an expert, and most likely an engineer specialized in that task. There
I find this program to be very effective all around the globe.
Engineering involves coming up with innovative ideas. Being an engineer gives one
capacity to come up with creative ideas that are useful to society. The most exciting part is when
a person creates a new thing, which probably had never been invented before. For instance, a
software engineer might come with new software that will be able to solve a particularly
complex task, which perhaps, involved manure work before. The latest innovation might earn a
person a lot of reputation, and even a lot of money if implemented efficiently.

Most engineering professions involves hand on work. According to studies, engineers are
involved in task and activities where they mainly use their hands to create something. Thus,
some engineering programs such as software engineering makes some enhance students to
develop projects while they are still in college. The projects end up changing their life after
completing a college degree. I find it to be exciting, coming up with something that can change
your entire life.
An engineering program allows one to travel in many parts of the world. According to
studies, engineering programs are demanded all around the globe.3 Thus, a person can choose to
work everywhere in the world, depending on his area of specialization. Engineering programs
such as electrical, mechanical, and civil are in high demand in many parts of the world. Thus,
having expertise in any of the engineering programs can give a person a chance to dig deep in
various parts of the world. It is exciting since a person can have a better opportunity to travel and
explore across the globe.
An engineering program earns one a good title. It is exciting when you travel around places,
and people recognize you as an engineer. Thus, the society recognizes your career, and you are
open to more opportunities in the community. For, instance, when there is an open vacancy in a
particular field that matches your expertise, the society recommends one to be the position. Also,
when you tell people you are an engineer, they can trust you to solve some complex tasks for
them.
Engineering program enhances collaboration and teamwork with fellow engineers. For
instance, you find most students in college working together trying to solve or complete a
particular complex project which can be very useful in the long run. The time work enhances one

to develop diverse skills and expertise. Also, teamwork brings various ideas together and ends,
thus enhancing a workable solution. It is exciting to work together with other engineers since a
person can grow his expertise and skills.
An excellent engineering program enables a person to work in a different department. A
person with an engineering degree cannot only work in his specialty, but instead one can also
work in other department involving other different specialties. Thus, it enables a person to
develop various skills and expertise while working in a different department. Thus, to develop
professionally it good to be very flexible, a have a deeper understanding of various industrial and
other technical aspects. Therefore, I find it very interesting in working in a different department
and developing more skills. However, engineering is a complex program since it involves a lot of
expertise in designing, understanding, implementation and mastering of various complex
programs.
Construction Program
Construction has become one of the critical programs in the current world of technology.
Almost in every region around the globe, there must be construction activity taking place. With
the improvement in technology, Construction has taken a new path where various design has
been invented in this sector. However, Construction majorly influences, agriculture,
infrastructure, and economy. The main aim in a construction program is to create structures
which are durable, quality, and attractive. When I was doing a survey, in various activities that
involve a construction activity, I came across different beautiful house designs, bridges, and

roads. Therefore, I found this construction program very interesting to pursue. There are various
reason that would influence me to pursue this program:
Construction involves coming up with innovative ideas. Majorly, most construction activities
include coming with a different design, where a constructor sits down a drawn a particular model
from scratch.
In most cases, a constructor is approached by a client with detailed information and
specification of the intended design. Designing is the most exciting thing I would enjoy doing.
Typically design entails a lot of creativity, which ultimately leads to the creation of appealing
design, which can attract a lot of customers.
Construction creates employment opportunities. Recent research shows that most young
people are looking for construction jobs, mainly in developing countries.4 Although most of
them rely on casual work, they make a living, and in the long run, end up becoming constructors.
Thus, pursuing a course in Construction would enable me to be a productive person in the world.
The exciting thing with Construction is that one can open a construction site, and employ young
people who are suffering due to unemployment.
A construction program attracts a good salary. According to studies can earn up to $83,
860 per year and list $40 per hour. In real senses, this is a good salary compared to other
programs. Also, Construction attracts a lot of commission and allowances throughout
construction management. Majorly being a constructor manager, one is entitled to the whole
project and construction plans. Also, being a constructor manager, one can manage more than
one projects at the same time. Thus, this attracts a lot of money since under each project there is
a remuneration.

Construction has a wide range of employment opportunities. Apart from the creation of
employment opportunities. a person with a GED in any construction program is entitled to a lot
of employment opportunities. For instance, graduate students can get employment opportunities
in various positions, such as the project manager, general constructor, designers, and building
inspection. In the current world, Construction is the day to day activity in various regions, for
instance, roads have to be repaired, more schools, hospitals, industries, rental houses, and
business houses have to be constructed. All these activities create employment opportunities for
constructors. Therefore, a construction program is very significant in the current and future
world.
Construction can enable a person to build a lifelong career. In this field, one gets to
experience while working in different construction fields. Most probably, a person starts as a
foreman, project manager, project manager, and finally, construction manager. Thus, in the long
run, one ends up establishing a construction company. It is exciting to own a company where you
are the sole director.
In Construction, one can build something tangible. It is exciting to create something real,
something that you can see, feel, and touch. Most programs do not enable a person to build a
tangible thing. However, in Construction, there is a must for something to be created, for
instance, building an apartment from scratch. It is quite impressive when a particular building or
apartment is associated with your name since you it was your work. Building something durable
or a lifetime building is something I find very interesting in the construction industry.
Construction enables a person to stay physically fit and healthy. Construction involves a
lot of physical work, whereby there is a lot of movements, and even direct involvement in hand-
work. There it cannot be compared to other programs such as office clerical work where a person

sits in the front of a computer the whole day without movements. Thus, it can lead to health
problems when the body remains dormant for an extended period. However, in Construction, a
person does not have the chance to stay in one place. Thus, it makes one physically fit and in
good health condition.
Construction enhances job security. In most construction industries, there are always
shortages of skilled workers. Thus, it means that, with expertise in Construction, a person is open
to many job opportunities. Many companies are still out there looking for young people with
excellent construction skills. In today's world, where the latest innovation is invented, job
opening at construction industries is also increasing.
As it was notable on engineering program, similarly Construction enhances a person to
travel in different regions and various parts around the globe. Mainly, there are many local
construction companies which employees skilled people to go and work in other foreign
countries. Therefore, it can give a person a better chance to go and explore different parts of the
world. Also, it can enhance an individual to develop more skills through collaboration with other
skilled people
It is easy to enter and get started in Construction. The minimum knowledge that a person
gains in a college degree is enough since much skills are gained during the career work. Since
most of the work in the construction industry involves much hand-work, there is much more to
learn, and in the long term, a person becomes an expert in the specialized area.
However, Scholars argues that construction is a complex program. It involves an in-depth
analysis of the construction process, the industry itself, and social systems which are

incorporated by people in the course of project execution. However, construction projects are
executed from the complexity perspective through various characteristics of a complex system.
Qualities essential in a major program manager
A program manager plays a significant role since he is responsible for the program
operations. Therefore, the program manager needs the necessary qualities to enable one to handle
the program effectively and deal with the team members. Consequently, the following attributes
should be entailed by the program manager to perform effectively.
A program manager needs to have a wide range of skills and vast knowledge. Thus, he
needs to understand the importance of having specific knowledge and skills in different
programs. Also, some programs are complex and challenging to handle, without enough
knowledge and skills, it becomes difficult to manage them. Moreover, the knowledge and skills
enable the program manager to build a strong support team that can assist him in the important
decision-making process.
A program manager should have the ability to conduct research. Research is one of the
critical aspects that a program manager should implement. Programs involve building various
projects, and research is essential in such projects to find out the necessary information. Also,
analysis assists a person to come up with good designs, ideas, and arguments to support the
project work. In project research, the program managers need to research and compare similar
projects, thus come up with a general idea on the planned project.
A program manager should be a good planner. Planning is essential in any all program
management task. For instance, in a major program such as engineering, the plan is necessary
since most of the engineering jobs involve problem-solving. Thus, research, outline, and come

with a solution to a particular problem. Proper planning enables one to manage time and make
appropriate adjustments where necessary effectively.
A program manager should be a good listener. Thus he should listen to ideas from team
members since the ideas might be essential in the program. Moreover, team members can come
to assist the program manager in the decision-making process if their ideas have listened
effectively.
The program manager should have leadership skills. Leadership skills are vital in any
program management since one can lead a group of team members effectively. Also, in the case
of projects, leadership skills are essential to plan and guide people during the project
management task, thus enhancing efficiency in project delivery.
The program manager should be a good decision maker and information analyzer.
Decision making is a significant aspect of program management. Thus, a skilled program
manager should have the capacity formulate, various program strategies. He should evaluate
different options by looking at essential priorities and any risks in the program. Also, a program
manager can integrate information from multiple sources and integrate all that information to
solve a particular problem. The program manager makes a judgment on what option to pursue in
a program and specifically at what point, since some scoping option may not be suitable to start
with at the begging of a program.
My contributions to M.Sc. Major Program management
I will improve the program outcome with evaluation findings. Program evaluation is
significant in an attempt to make program improvements. Thus, I will ensure that all program
activities and services that do not bring any program outcomes are eliminated. Therefore, I will

advocate the establishment of businesses and services that are well designed to enhance the
achievement of better program outcomes. It will be made possible by acquiring enough resources
necessary to support all program services and activities.
I will enhance program management consulting services. Thus, this approach will ensure
that project teams can solve various problems through the introduction of new technologies and
processes. Also, project teams will be able to new skills which are efficient in reduction of
projects operation cost. I will also make sure that there are no gaps in functional and
technological requirements so that we can attain our goals and objectives.
Also, I will manage program communication. Effective communication is the heart of
any successful program. Thus, programs should be incorporated with a good communication
strategy which should link to any person involved in the program. Therefore, a good
communication strategy identifies the medium, means, and messages necessary to different
parties in a particular program.
I will assist other students in choosing and implementing strategies. Effective strategies
are vital in any project. Without a proper strategy, it becomes had to carry out the project process
and make a better decision regarding the project. Thus, since I am aware and knowledgeable of
the current project management strategies, I will make sure fellow students are well equipped
with suitable project strategies.
I have consultancy skills; thus, I will give other students guidance throughout their
projects. I will use my skills and knowledge to support all ongoing projects with the use of an
implementation of various methodologies which are vital in program management. Also, I will
facilitate creativity, which will enhance the project team to come up with a better solution.

Finally, I will recommend the implementation of better software solution and equipment which
can effectively support methods and processes in the project scope.
Conclusion
From the discussion, engineering and Construction are vital in the current world.
Pursuing a course in any of the two major programs means that a person is open to a variety of
job opportunities to choose. Securing an engineering career earn a lot of reputation from society.
Also, it evident that most important programs earn one high amount of salary as compared to
other programs, thus attracts a better life. More importantly, engineering and Construction play a
very significant role in the current world of technology. For, instance, engineering is essential in
solving complex problems in the world.
On the other hand, Construction enables one to come with various designs which I find
more interesting. For instance, designing something unique quality can attract a lot of reputation
from society. Finally, engineering and Construction provide job security independent of the
current situation.
