I want to be a registered Clinical Nurse Specialist after completing my studies in Bachelor in
Science. To achieve that I want to persue a course on masters degree of nursing
and after
completing masters degree I want to do research work in the specialized area of management of
pain, wounds and stress. I want specialization in this area because I can provide direct patient
care as well as
serve as expert consultants for other nursing staffs. However I want to practise
as a clinical nurse immediately after my graduation level. I want to serve as a generalist nurse so
that I can gain exposure and experience to achieve the desired
goal. Nursing profession is a
noble one with a service mindset; the peace and happiness
I get after curing
ailing patients is
difficult to explain.
Nursing is the study to protect, promote and optimize health and abilities,
prevent
illness and injury, alleviate
suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human
response and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations.
I
respect the nursing profession because I shall be able to implement all the wisdom and
knowledge I have learned during years of studies. I want to help people professionally. I have
seen so many of my own family members affected due to various
illness and pain. I can serve
them better with the knowledge and experience I gained through my studies and work
experience.
Career Planning
Learning
has no bounds as
technology and medical science
are constantly
evolving. Nurses have to upgrade their knowledge on an on going basis to stay up-to-date to
provide the patients with the best medical care.. Therefore I feel nurses should update their skills
throughout their careers and continue their education. My plan of doing research is a setting in
this direction. I shall plan time management efficiently so that I can attend short term education
courses hosted by colleges and universities , as well as professional workshops and seminars. I
also plan to join organizations
or associations of
healthcare professionals to gain access to
exclusive training and education opportunities
(
Revello & Fields, 2015).
The reasons behind my selection
are that I can involve myself
in evidence-based nursing
practice within a specialized
area, treating the health concerns of patients. I can
provide
leadership in the advanced practice of nursing to achieve quality and cost-effective patient
outcomes
as
well
as
provide
leadership
of
multidisciplinary
groups
in
designing
and
implementing innovative alternative solutions. (
Meleis, 2011)
.
To become an efficient nurse and achieve my goal of becoming a specialist, I must adhere to the
following action plan:
Efficiency
• I will complete all critical tasks within the time of my shift.
• I will delegate or ask for help if I feel over-burdened.
Performance accuracy
• Within two weeks, I have
to understand the guidelines and procedures
for administering
different medicines.
• Within 10 minutes of leaving a patient, all my interactions with them are recorded while they
are still in my head.

Improve patient care
• Before I take a break or finish my shift, I will spend no less than five minutes talking to the
new nurse about the details of my patients and their instructions.
• Within two weeks, I will find out two or three issues that each patient cares about, so I can
distract myself from his medical situation.
Mentorship
• Within three months, I will identify a senior nurse as a
mentor and seek his/ her guidance. I
shall interact with him at least once in a week to get the necessary inputs for my day to day
activities.
• During my postgraduate studies and research, I want to pay for it as a mentor by finding a new
nurse.

My Profile
Step 1: Knowing yourself
Personal characteristics
My
current
Study
skills
and
abilities (Things that I can do well,
e.g. listening, team work, problem
solving, critical thinking, Time
Management)
Good communication skill, I listen attentively and encourage
other people to talk to me and am sensitive to the non-verbal
cues that enhance understanding. I communicate with a variety
of audience to speak fluently and confidently. I create win-win
arguments between people with opposing standpoints so that
all parties can reach an acceptable solution.
My values
(Things that are important to me,
e.g. honest, hard-working)
Working well under pressure, I take the steps unnecessary to
gather all the relevant information so that the problem can be
clearly identified; I work well under pressure and react calmly to
a potentially stressful situation and also bounce back from
disappointment and start again. I am self-assured and trust in
my ability to cope with new situations and new challenges.
My interests/Passions
Highly
motivated
and

within
a
team
environment.
As motivated as they get, when the chance is given I work with
enthusiasm and confidence and if any problems shall arise am
willing to take the lead, keeping the work area less stressful
with constant communication based on projects or what needs
to be done.
My proudest achievement
Winning a prize for a Youth Leader of the year I must say I
was very happy knowing my hard-work and dedication paid off
after receiving this award.
Self-assessment
of
Study skills:
S.W.O.T.
I am able to adjust myself towards my goal when I realize it’s
not going to work the way I wanted sometimes, these are one
of my strength I can see it before it happens and I am very
easy to adapt to it. My weaknesses are to trying so hard to get
results without any knowledge and preparing for things beyond
my control. Some times I feel angry when things don’t go my
way but at the same time I have learned to accept and prepare
to change tactics so I can have a successful outcome.

Goals are things that you want to achieve in the future. They are things that will
help you to be prepared and ready for change at College, University or in your life. It
is important that you think about goals early because then you can work out how to
achieve them. Thinking about goals means that you will be prepared to study the
subjects you like, do the types of professional jobs you prefer, and keep your future
options open. If you meet a goal throughout the year, set another new one for
yourself – maybe a more challenging one.
Think about goals that relate to education/training and employment. For
example, an education/training goal might be to hand all work in on time, and an
employment goal might be to upskill in a specific area.
Think about why the goals you make are important. For example, handing all
work in on time means you are developing time management skills,
Think about how long it will take you to achieve your goals. Some goals are
short-term which means you can achieve them in a few weeks. Some goals are long-
term which means it might take a year or more before you can achieve them.

My Reflection
Throughout the year it is important for you to spend some time thinking about the
goals and plans you set for yourself and what it was like working out your career
capabilities and how they relate to your preferred career option. Reflecting on
what you wrote in your Study/Career Action Plan you might need to include some
new things in your next Career Action to help you to achieve your long-term
goals.
What
have
you

My education/Study goals – what skills and attributes do you have /do you need to
develop?
I set my career goals by thinking of what I want to do, in both the short term and long term
wise. By, using my communication skills and other aspects it is very vital for me because at
the end of the day I would only answer to me regardless of what the outcome will be.
My career interests
The industries that my talents and skills align with
The level of compensation that best suits my needs
Where I like to see myself in five-ten years career wise
My Career goals – Are your Goals realistic
In my career path, I have chosen measurable and attainable short-term and long-range goals
and will track my progress and make adjustments when necessary,
and I am sure t I would
definitely
succeed.
Since this is the right time to choose the proper career path, I have
selected the path which is most suitable to my nature and my style. Moreover I know that this
is a noble profession and serving the needy is the motto of this profession. No other
profession is as much service oriented as nursing is. Moreover, there are plenty of opportunity
for advanced study and research. What I have determined is realistic and achievable. Without
a goal is just like a rader-less ship. So for fulfilling the desired pathway, whatever I have
planned is precise, perfect and achievable.
Which goals need further work and Options available?

Goals
All the goals I have mentioned are in continuation to what I am presently doing, so there will
not be any adverse
situation where I have to think about other options. I am sure I shall be
successful in my plan.
