Guidelines: Study and Career Plan Assessment

This Study and Career Plan will be in the form of a templated Action Plan provided.
A minimum total of 15 marks is required to pass this assessment.
The Study and Career Plan will be based on your chosen Health Care Career (subject to Tutors prior approval).
It will include an analysis of the study and career planning processes involved. This will include developing an
understanding of:
 Personal Qualities and Work Related Skills
 SMART Goal setting concepts and strategies
 Investigation of potential study pathways and Qualification outcomes
 Critiquing the Professional role undertaken in that career
 Reflection on the Study and Career Planning process
You will critically consider how much you have learned about the Study and Career Planning process. You will
be required to present an evaluation of your key findings and the process followed as well as reflecting on what
you have learnt. The information presented must meet all aspects of the guidelines and marking criteria and
must be referenced.
Your Study and Career Plan should follow the NZMA Template provided at the end of this assessment (your
responses need to be printed):
a. Clearly state title of the Career pathway option chosen.
b. Provide a brief background on the chosen Health Care Career Pathway and why it interests you.
c. Describe key findings in under the sections of:
1. Personal qualities/characteristics and study skills/capabilities required by the career pathway
2. Goal-setting strategies utilised to achieve ‘Long Tem Career Goal’
3. Educational study pathway, including Course requirements, potential tertiary institutions,
qualification duration and registration requirements
4. Professional career role, job description and potential long-term career development
d. Study and Career Plan Reflection (Word count – 500 words)
1. Identify useful research strategies that were used to access information from qualified sources in
order to find information on your current personal and study characteristics and chosen health
career educational pathway.
2. Evaluate how far you have come towards attaining an understanding of the career pathway and
planning strategies. What did you find out about yourself, your skills and passions? What are going
to be hurdles that you may have to overcome and what strategies are in place? Have you
managed to extend or deepen your knowledge of study and career planning? Has this cemented
