2 CONTEMPORARY PEOPLE MANAGEMENT Overview of the tutorial This tutorial has been organized for the managers and the employers to provide an insight into the ways and means of hiring rightful candidates. For this, the resources like powerpoint presentation, quizzes, would be taken into due consideration.Along with this, the candidates would be interviewed for testing their knowledge about the workplace. This would be from diverse fields. Group discussions would be the main form of assessing the capability of the employeestomakepracticalapplicationof the learntskillsin theworkplace operations. The session would be presided by the interview board panel. Objective of the tutorial The following are the objectives of the tutorial: To assess the preconceived skills, expertise and knowledge of the candidates To examine the knowledge of the candidates regarding the organizational values To excavate the approach of the candidates towards workplace ethics To analyse the awareness of the candidates regarding their strengths, abilities and weakness To excavate out the process through which recruitment and selection process can be improved in the workplace Tutorial questions The following questions can be proposed to the candidates: Why should we hire you? How do you think you different from the others? If you are asked to change one thing about the company, what would that be?

Answers to the questions The candidates were divided into 5 groups for answering the questions. Answer 1 The candidates in group 3 answered that they have the capability to undertake challenging tasks, which most of the companies demand in a competitive ambience. In response to this, they were shown a presentation regarding the components on which a company or organization operates. The same question was repeated. The candidates in Group 1 suggested different answers, which the interview panel interpreted as cultural diversity, one of an important aspect within the workplace. Answer 2: There was chaos and commotion regarding answering the question on capability. All of them were given a chance to answer. Even in this, there was a reflection of cultural diversity. Group 2 candidates answered the question, which aligns with the fact that in a company or organization, the employees hail from different socio-cultural background, but share a common goal of achieving success. Answer 3: The candidates were elated at this question. Everyone was eager to answer. However, group 4 candidates were offered the chance. They told they would like to change the workplace norms to a liberal one. To this, the managers and the employees showed them a case of a company, where the managers possessed a liberal approach towards the employees. This touched the employees.

Group 1 proposed favoured the song “I get money” for representing workplace ethics. To this, the panel questioned, “How can money represent ethics?” To this, the candidates became confused. Now, Group 2 was given the opportunity. They selected the song, “Eye of the Tiger”. Again, the panel countered that tiger is a ferocious animal. It cannot be the symbol of ethics. Group 3 proposed the song, “Working for the weekend”. The panel was of the view that working on weekends is not at all an ethical approach, as the workers need to rest. The answer of Group 4 was liked by the interview board. They proposed the song, “Don’t worry be happy”. The panel enlightened the knowledge of the employees by saying that ensuring the happiness of the workers is one of the typical components of the workplace ethics.
