This statement is true because the ATSI community believe that a culturally safe environment is
where they feel secure in their identity, culture and community (Davy, Harfield, McArthur,
Munn, and Brown (2016). Currently, people from the ATSI community are working on the
health care industry because culturally safe work practices have been adopted in the health care
industry. The healthcare industry has recognizes and respects the cultural identity of the ATSI
community. This is in turn has elevated their confidence and encouraged them to engage
themselves in different healthcare sectors. Moreover, most of them engage in the health care
industry so as to enable health care facilities to be able to effectively care for people from the
ATSI community. In most cases, the ATSI community find it hard to access appropriate
healthcare services due to an array of cultural barriers. To help other healthcare practitioners
develop effective relationships with these people, it is important if people who understand their
culture be incorporated in the healthcare industry. The adoption of culturally safe work practice
by the healthcare industry has enabled the dissemination of cultural safety knowledge and
practice among the healthcare practitioners. According to Harfield et al. (2018), part of the
solution for the health of this community is establishing indigenous specific healthcare facilities
which are managed by the ATSI. The fact that their work practice is founded on a kinship
system helps in maintain unity and cooperation among relationships within the healthcare
facilities. It is thus important to note that the foundation on community helps provide support to
health workers from the ATSI community while upholding their values. The community also
helps in promoting healthcare as they know their cultural beliefs and values are put into
consideration.
