In what ways does climate change affect either the
accommodation or the attractions sector of the tourism industry?
In your essay you need to describe and analyse the various ways
that climate change is currently affecting, and could possibly
affect, the sector you have selected (either accommodation or
attractions). You should include specific examples of current
impacts on businesses in the sector you have selected.
Climate change is considered to be a change in the regional or a
global climate pattern, specifically a change from the mid-20th century the
to the late 20th century and has attributed insanely to the increased level
of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere which is generally produced by using
fossil fuels (Foden et al 2019). Climate change, in recent times has
become a global concern and it has been seen that it has been affecting
several industries which include the tourism industry. Climate change has
been having a negative impact on several sectors of the tourism industry
which is detrimental for the business and the growth and development of
the industry. This paper will focus on the ways in which climate change
has been affecting the attraction sector of the tourism industry.
Climate change has been affecting the tourism industry all across
the globe especially their attraction sector. Majority of the tourists travel
to different countries to experience the uniqueness of the country and
explore the attractive destinations and key activities like historical
monuments, natural beauties like oceans, mountain, adventure activities
and many more (Abdullah et al 2019). However, it has been seen that due
to the increase in climate change most of these places which fall under
the attraction sector are getting destroyed which has been leading to
negative outcomes like less number of tourists.

There are various tourist destinations all around the world that
highly depend on sparkling rivers, lakes and oceans which provide a
beautiful and picturesque view to the tourists however it has been seen
that climate change has led to the increase in the amount of carbon in the
air which is then absorbed by the oceans which makes the oceans acidic
and also leads to the rise in the water level of these water bodies.
According to scholars, rise in the water level of oceans often have
negative effects like causing floods and various other natural calamities
which causes high risk for the tourists (Štetić and Trišić 2019).
There are many tourist destinations which encash on their beautiful
rivers and oceans by providing experiential tourism by introducing
adventure activities like scuba diving. Scheffers and Pecl (2019) states
climate change is contributing to the rise in temperature making the
oceans and rivers hotter and these changes in the water temperature
have been affecting the marine species like shell fish, fishes and many
more which has resulted them in trying to shift in areas that are cooler.
Adventure sports like scuba diving highly depends on the beauty of the
marine life which they show their tourists to provide a unique experience
however due to climate change this is hindered as many marine species
either lose lives or go far away in search for cooler areas affecting the
visual treat which travellers experience while performing these adventure
sports. For example, Maldives is popular for the beautiful view of
the oceans however climate change has contributed to the rise in
seal level which has created a huge environmental stress and has
been affecting the attraction sector.

The rise in temperature has led to the melting of snow which has
been affecting the attraction sector of tourism. Countries that have snow
attract tourists with unique adventure sports and experiences like
snowboarding, skiing and many more. However, melting of the ice caps
have been restricting tourist to visit these places because of the increase
in risk factors. Places with snow are beautiful and are considered to be
attraction sites which are affected these days due to the change in the
pattern of temperatures. In California, the lack of snowfall has led to less
people or tourists especially to the ski resorts.
One of the most common attraction destinations are historical
monuments and world heritages in the tourism industry. According to
recent study, it has been seen that climate change can have a significant
impact on the deterioration of bricks and stones (Lacasse, Gaur and Moore
2020). There are various other reasons which can affect these like natural
calamities and many more. Thus, it can be seen that climate change has
the capability of destroying historical monuments which is an essential
aspect of the attraction sector of the tourism industry by leading to very
less visitors in the countries. According to reports, UNESCO has stated
that the Statue of Liberty which is an iconic site in New York is at a high
risk due to climate change as climate change has impacts on storm surge
and rises in the sea level and also increases in the intensity of the storms
(CNBC.com 2016).
Climate change has been having detrimental impacts on the
attraction sector of tourism and the rise in climate change will further lead
